19.01.2022 We’re proud to share that we recently achieved a significant milestone on site at Rio Tinto’s Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 project. Around 464m3 of concrete was poured safely on what we call a ‘vault wall’, which is an important part of the future mine because it will enable iron ore to be transported from the mining pit to the processing facility. The safe delivery of the first major pour represents the efforts of the Rio Tinto, Mondium and Whittens combined team. We thank the entire Whittens team on site for their hard work and dedicated focus throughout the planning and execution of the works.

13.01.2022 We’re incredibly proud to announce Whittens is the recipient of Rio Tinto’s Make a Difference (MaD) Award for Q4 2020 in the category of safety. A tight schedule for the construction of the vault work area of the Rio Tinto Western Turner Syncline 2 (WTS2) Project - along with multiple crews working together in a very small footprint - meant that it would be very difficult to continue scaffolding works in the area. Access Engineering Group were engaged to certify the design a...nd engineering of two scaffold stair towers that could be erected horizontally at ground level and lifted into position on completion of steel fixing and form work installation. This highly successful solution resulted in: Reduced exposure to critical risks Productivity improvement with scaffold being pre-fabricated while steel fixing and form work installation took place Fully encapsulated walkway prior to installation It is innovative thinking like this that ensures we're keeping our mates safe.
