24.01.2022 It was World Environment Day! This was a day for the Kindergarten children to reflect on all the ways we can care for our animals, plants and the land. The children engaged in a group discussion about our sustainable practices embedded in our Kindergarten. Natural materials were used in our creative collage pasting. From our vegetable garden the children made gifts of herbs for our families to celebrate this World Environment Day.

We understand times are hard for everyone right now but a little goes a long way. Dates: Thursday 13th of August Superhero day: dress like your hero! If you are unable to attend the centre, please feel invited to join in on the fun and dress up at home! Share your photos with us through Story Park or Face Book!

21.01.2022 Ian from St John Ambulance Victoria visited our Kindergarten today. He shared a story about First Aid Superhero. We learnt D is for Danger, R is for Response and S is for Send for help. And ring "000"! Then we practiced our bandaging! We each received our certificates to take home.

20.01.2022 We would like to thank the Whittlesea Community who joined us for our open day today. Thank you to the CFA and Whittlesea Library, the families, children and staff who came along for some fun activities

20.01.2022 The past month the Echidna children have been going and visiting the garden despite the freezing weather, where they have been searching for snails, watering the vegetables, feeding and touching the worms. In addition to promoting physical activity, engaging the children in outdoor learning environments plays a significant role in the development of childrens behavioural and social skills. It allows them to explore and wonder their surroundings that they live in and are learning a life lesson of respecting their environment. We will continue to visit the garden through-out the year.

19.01.2022 "Ahoy ma hearties" Today in the wombat room was Pirate day. The children were very busy building their pirate ship, and walking the plank. They also made their own treasure maps and Pirate hats. This experience was an extension of the children's interest. This play supports the development of Team work and working together.

18.01.2022 From 3 to 7 August, early childhood educators, parents, carers and community leaders around Australia came together to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of early learning. High-quality early education and care supports children to be confident, enthusiastic learners, building a foundation for wellbeing and achievement throughout their lives. Our centre recognises and supports our valued educators for their knowledge, professionalism and life experiences. Educators work collaboratively engaging in ongoing reflective practices, professional development and work towards the National Quality Standards.

17.01.2022 Nate's Great Grandfather Ian Hunter visited Kindergarten. Ian is our Aboriginal Elder of the Wurundjeri-Willam people. The children saw ancestry family photos, how to start fires with sticks, making little spinning boomerangs and enjoyed the music of the didgeridoo and tapping sticks. This visit further highlighted our immersion of Aboriginal culture and heritage in our Kindergarten program.

17.01.2022 The Museum Outreach Program visited Kindergarten and presented the Dinosaur Show! We became Paleontologists exploring dinosaur bones and fossils. We were left pondering ...."What colours were the dinosaurs?"

16.01.2022 Painting Over the last few weeks the wombat children showing their interest in a range of painting techniques. The children are exploring their ideas and being creative, while using their ideas in their own learning. The children have painted with bubble wrap, sponges, cotton buds, and used string to run through the paint on their paper, making a rainbow as some children had said. While we have been doing these painting experiences the children have taken turns, communicated their needs for assistance when needed, used their language skills to express their ideas and feelings when painting. Within the wombat room the children will continue to explore a wide range of painting techniques including their fine motor skills.

13.01.2022 We are all in this together! We have taken inspiration from some of the great initiative going on around our Whittlesea community and created our own pandemic project! (See image 1 of the Lovely rock garden created in our local community, used to inspire our own garden here at Try Whittlesea Children's Centre.) We invite you to join our community project by decorating your own pebble or wooden spoon. The aim of each pebble is to express and acknowledge the journey we are all ...currently on. Whilst we are all in this together, some of us are experiencing a different journey. This community art project aims to capture some of those experiences and foster our ever flourishing community spirit. Thank you in advanced for being a part of this! Please place a decorated rock or wooden spoon at the base of this tree and share your photo on Story Park!

12.01.2022 HAPPY EDUCATOR DAY 2020 Thank-you for all your hard work and dedication, we appreciate everything you do

11.01.2022 Routines are very important for children. Why? You may ask well knowing what is going to happen next is the key to enhance babies and toddlers security and emotional stability. It allows them to feel comfortable in their environment and ensures they are able to focus on the important things such as playing, exploring and learning. In the Echidna Room snack/lunch can sometimes be a handful, however because all staff and children are aware of the routine and what is about to occur it assists in a smooth and calm environment. This morning the children enjoyed some fruit where they sat with their educator talking about the different fruits and their colour; this allowed the children to socialise with one another while improving on their communication skills.

10.01.2022 In our planning at Try Whittlesea, we actively listen to the childrens voices and implement activities to reflect. Our play based program engages the Early Years Learning Frameworks. Following our wombat childrens emerging interests, we have turned our dramatic play area into the wombat police station. We have given the children the opportunity to engage in a range of activities including, police car construction, police finger printing and even some silly mug shots! Take a look!

10.01.2022 Mealtimes provide an opportunity for children to develop good eating behaviours, as well as learn about nutrition and food variety. Wombat children are enjoying some social interaction with their peers and educators while they were enjoying their meal. After lunch the children have assisted educators in wiping the tables / chairs and vacuuming our table area. Over the next few weeks we are hoping to discuss about healthy eating in the room.

10.01.2022 It was "Dress Like Your Hero Day" today! The children participated both here at the Centre and from home. The children reflected on what a hero meant to them. There were many' Front-line" heroes who are caring for our community in these times. There were superheros. And "My mum, she's my hero!" We held this day to support our friend, hero and cook Renae and her son Zach through his illness. Thank you to our wonderful families for their contributions and thoughts.

10.01.2022 Try Whittlesea Children's Centre invite our community to support one of our families who are in need. Renae, our dedicated cook and beloved educator's son Zachary is currently battling Leukemia. Zachary attended our centre only a few years ago. In support of Renae and Zach, a go fund me page has been started. As a centre we have organised a "Dress like your hero day" (Thursday 14th of August) to raise awareness and hopefully collect some donations. We understand times are tough right now for everyone, but please dig deep, a little goes an long way. https://www.gofundme.com/f/zachary-lackovic

Children are also experiencing and enjoying being part of group through a wide range of skills by sharing their experiences with their peers and educators.

08.01.2022 Our Centre Manager Tracey's one of many talents.

06.01.2022 THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD WEATHER! Well not to us anyway. The children at TRY Whittlesea love to be outdoors no matter the season meaning they are still eager to get outside even in these cold winter days. Our lovely educators always consider the health and comfort of all children in our service that is why educators from each room attended an information evening about coping with the winter blues. This evening gave staff a greater understanding of how to plan for the...se colder months and gave them different ideas of fun learning experiences for when the weather gets worse! We ask for your supporting in getting your children outside and ask that you bring along a nice big jacket and change of clothes just in case we get a little wet or muddy! To find out more about why outdoor play in all weather is important please feel free to click this link and have a read: https://www.acecqa.gov.au//QA3_InfoSheetBabiesAndOutdoorPl

03.01.2022 As most families will know over the past few months we have been collecting bottle tops and lids to donate towards Envision Hands. Envision Hands is a project that collects plastic recyclable waste that is destined for landfills and turn it into filament for 3D printers. The filament is then used for making prosthetic hands for kids (Envision Employment Services Incorporated, 2019). We have collected hundreds of lids and are super proud of our achievements as a centre. Envisi...on Hands has announced that have put a hold on collection of the lids as they have far surpassed their goal of 2 million caps with over 5 million collected in Victoria alone. However, as a centre we will still be collecting them and putting them aside for when Envision announces that they are ready to receive and process more in the future. Thank you to all the families and staff for your amazing contributions!! The basket will remain at the front of Renaes kitchen for more donations. See more

02.01.2022 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Childrens Day is celebrated on the 4th of August annually. This years theme is: We are the Elders of tomorrow, Hear our voice. Victorian Koorie cultures have a unique place in Victorias heritage and future. Learning about and valuing the place of Koorie people will enhance all Victorians childrens sense of place in our community. At Try Whittlesea Childrens Centre we embed a range of experiences and activities into our daily practices from the echidna room right through to the sessional kindergarten group that respectfully acknowledge and appreciate the past and present cultures of our Aboriginal Ancestors.

01.01.2022 To continue our sustainability practices of the worm farm and caring for our plants the Wombat children noticed the garlic was ready to harvest. The children contributed in decision making as we took the opportunity to pull all the garlic out and leave it to dry. A week later the children were active participants gathering the garlic and bundling it into bunches of three. If you are interested you may purchase some to take home!
