22.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are thanking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. The event asks for a candle or torch. We are working with the Chief Elf on the times and we will update you all once confirmed. Due to Covid though Santa will unfortunately not be able to get off the fire truck and Santa would like everyone to keep their social distancing to keep everyone safe.... 20.01.2022 After consultation with the Victorian health officials, CFA are permitted to undertake training again ahead of the fire danger period. Strict number caps, covid safe plans, the usual masking and gloves etc and limiting training to a timeframe and working within curfew restrictions will be the norm for a while. You may see us out and about a bit more often in the coming weeks practicing around town in preparation for the fire season.

Nary’s whole family were able to safely escape with just the clothes on their back, and credit their safe evacuation to having a working smoke alarm. Install interconnected smoke alarms in all bedrooms and living areas, and ensure you test batteries monthly. Only working smoke alarms save lives.

15.01.2022 Today while out performing operational training we ran into Ollie who had his own fire truck and uniform on. Ollie loved seeing our trucks out. He thought his truck was better though as ours doesn’t blow bubbles like his does . We also found out that today is Ollie’s birthday so Happy Birthday Ollie from Whittlesea Fire Brigade. As mentioned in previous posts, you will start to see us out and about more often due to government restrictions being lifted on training. If you do see us out and about in our groups of 10 or less give us a wave and we might be able to give you a toot or ring the siren for you. Masks will be worn by members at all times during training and COVID safe measures will be in place.

If you live two or three streets away from grassland and a grassfire starts, stay where you are. Never drive if you can see smoke or fire. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months.
