15.01.2022 A final Mass of Thanksgiving for the ministry and mission of St John the Evangelist, Whitton. A fitting dedication to the memories, the love, the laughter and t...he friendship from the mother church of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. Many thanks to Fr Robert, Deacon Tim, and to Bishop Donald for a meaningful last service at St John's, and to all those who attended. Thankyou for the memories.

11.01.2022 WHITTON has an ART DECO history. Following fires in 1892,1906,1914, 1923 and 1927 which destroyed most of the colonial style buildings in Benerembah St, Whitton's Main Street was rebuilt during the 1930's with Art Deco style architecture. Some of those buildings still remain there today. Museum open Sunday 10am-4pm.

09.01.2022 Moving on from Narrandera we come to Yanko, New South Wales. Yanco is known as the gateway to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA). Just as you come arrive at... Yanco, you come across a sculpture by John Wood which celebrates this incredible irrigation story. The compass pays tribute to the engineering prowess of the Water Conservation and Irrigation commission which was tasked with developing the MIA's intricate network of canals, channels and drains to efficiently and effectively move water using predominanyly gravity. FEEDING a Nation - The MIA was the brainchild of Sir Samuel McCaughey who successfully trialed an irrigation scheme on his farm "North Yanko", now the sight of the Yanco Agricultural High School on Euroley Road. Today over 150,000 ha of land in the MIA is irrigated, forming what is Australia's premier food bowl. A statue of Sir Samual McCaughey can be found at McCaughey Park in Yanco. Continuing along Irrigation Way towards Leeton we come across a sculpture of a Stag by Tobias Bennett. This is just before you arrive at The Golden Apple. Next post we will spend some time around Leeton. Enjoy.
