I tested them on friends, picking them at random filling them out and sending them. I cried for hours, as I wrote them and as people responded. This project was born during some of the hardest months of lock down in Melbourne; when connection and intimacy felt so valuable. From my heart to your heart, I can not wait for them to be in your hands. They are also incredibly beautiful look at, to touch, write on and to hold in your hands. 17.01.2022 I havent given much air time to @notestomyfutureson on here. I wrote this book last year. When I initially started to write, it was to fight violence against women. To change the narrative for young men so that they would not grow up to be perpetrators. It was so I could protect my daughter. As the project progressed I realised that young men were for many reasons victims of the overarching patriarchal systems. We talk about having to teach young men to be safe in vulnerabil...ity, to be compassionate communicators, to express their emotions rather than suppress them. But in fact they dont need to be taught to be anything, they need help to unlearn all of societys constructs of masculinity. Boys are born emotional beings, we just live in a world hell bent on making them forget it. Of sitting on the deck pealing veggies, drinking tea, eating mangos with juice running down my arms. The sound of children playing and laughing without screens. Smelling the sea that grounds me completely in the moment. A house by the beach of my very own. 10.01.2022 Falafelish pizza: add water and olive oil to falafel mix. On baking paper flatten mixture with wet hands. Bake until crisp. Smother with yogurt or hummus (or both if youre all about the sauciness), chopped tomatoes, fresh coriander, fresh or pickled radishes, sumac or any combination of the above and more. 08.01.2022 Psychiatrist Shalini Arunogiri, who specialises in addiction and women's mental health, has noticed huge differences between the first and second-wave lockdowns. "In lockdown one, what we really saw was people were really running on adrenaline, it was sort of this response to acute stress," she explains. "It was a situation no-one had been in before so what we saw was this gathering of a lot of energy. ... "Lockdown two is really around adrenaline fatigue, just fatigue full stop. A lot of people are feeling burnt out and exhausted." Less healthy coping mechanisms, like binge viewing, have now become habitual for some people. These are excerpts from an article in @abcnews_au yesterday. When I read it, it suddenly made sense of the exhaustion, lack of motivation and much reduced stress tolerance Ive experienced in recent weeks. I wanted to share it with you all because I know many of us, particularly in Melbourne are feeling this right now. I thought Id offer some really basic, grass roots things for you to try to help support your nervous system through the next couple of weeks...months... Really simple measures can be put in place to help support your central nervous system like: limiting caffeine and alcohol monitoring your screen time limiting blue screen exposure after 7pm eating healthy, eating mindfully (especially sugar) going to bed early, at the same time each night connect with someone each day supplements can help. But try lifestyle changes first, they will be most impactful. I know some of these sound nuts to try and limit in this really monotonous period of time. Especially caffeine and alcohol and binge watching TV. But they actually perpetuate the same problems we are trying to alleviate. Ive had to give up coffee and alcohol to get through this next bit. Im still watching way too much TV, out of loneliness really. So, I get that this may not be time to hang up your emotional crutches. I just thought Id let you know they may not be as helpful as we want them to be. There are a number of support lines available to us to utilise during this time. Ill link the article our bio. 08.01.2022 Yesterday was the last day chook would come to work with me. @siystudio came in to take photos of us so that we had keepsakes. Holly is the most incredible photographer, she captures things we want to be seen, in the way we want to be seen by the rest of the world. That sounds so simple, because she makes it look simple, but that comes from such a genuine understanding of the human spirit. What a privilege to call Holly one of my dearest friends and also have her take our pho...tos. It is such an incredible gift she has. Chook is five so it is unlikely she will remember this time. Which I feel is both a blessing and a sadness. For those and I know there are many of us in Melbourne, having our kids with us at work is hard on us and on them. It is also really precious, this time we can never get back. I cried when we left the shop yesterday because my body can still feel the long days when she would come to work in the carrier as a baby, that time was so stressful and exhausting. But, I had a job that mean I could be with my baby everyday and every moment and I feel immense gratitude for this. As I closed the doors last night all I could think of was ‘if these walls could talk’ and I smiled and closed the doors with chook for the last time and I know that this time has come at the perfect time.

07.01.2022 Do you guys remember our donut forecast? The donuts used to get delivered to our house back in the day. Scout and I would drive down to the beach each Saturday morning with one choc and one Cinammon donut and we would tell you how they were that day. If you are a crumbs donut aficionado such as chook or myself, you will know they are different each time; sometimes more crunchy, juicy, fluffy, chewy and bigger. We dont live by the ocean anymore. And the donut guy has a key to the shop. But I have the most beautiful memories of me, my girl and those donuts locked in my heart forever. I will be at the shop today in a few hours I will give you your donut update, not because Im feeling nostalgic but because I have thought about these donuts All. Week. Long. x Catie

07.01.2022 It is okay to need help. #ruok (Embedded text) I see a psychologist. Sometimes weekly. Sometimes fortnightly. Sometimes monthly. I have seen one regularly for three-years now. My new psychologist asked me why I was there. And I said I dont know. And when I left, I crossed the road to my car and a flood of tears came. I cant do this by myself was what I had wanted to say. The next week I told her and I sank, at ease into the chair. I don't want to do this by myself. ...Today is R U OK? Day. And I wanted to tell you sometimes Im not. I sometimes find things that other people find easy, harder. I can feel overwhelmed and scared sometimes and because of my past trauma, I might find things scary, when there is no danger. This can be hard for people to understand. When I speak to friends about these things sometimes it can feel unsafe, even when they are being loving and caring. Thats why I see a psychologist because they are trained to understand how my brain works and is wired. And they give me reasoning and clarity and compassion. But mostly they make me realise that we as human beings are largely the same; we have the same fundamental fears and desires. But we experience the same reality very differently, with different baggage and different beliefs and experiences. See more

01.01.2022 Today is the last day we will be closed until Christmas! It feels as though we’ve come out of lock-down in to a sprint. My bestie gave us her beach house this weekend and i got to fill this little Chika’s cuddle bucket right up. This will probably be my last Christmas at Staple, I think I said that last year? I just came out of my morning meditation all gooey and sentimental. I love this time of year in the shop, it’s a time when all of the customers we have met over the last 10 years come back to do a bit of shopping. I have made so many friends in this little tiny shop. I love you all so much and I’ve loved being part of your family’s homes for all of these years. Our final day of rest before the epic end to a really (I can not find the words) *^%# year.
