25.01.2022 I promised I would share my Swiss mountain tea of herbs I gathered in the mountains and fields, following the Milkwood tea post. Here it is.. Mountain mint, yar...row, rose hip buds, red clover tips and fresh coriander. It was a delicious brew fresh clean alpine hit with the tangy rosehip and slight bitterness from the yarrow and redclover. See more

19.01.2022 Healing Season. A time to follow the way of Autumn. Healing is a matter of time, but it is also sometimes a matter of opportunity. ... Hippocrates The words of Hippocrates remind me time again of the nature of healing- that anything that takes ill effect on us and the world can be embraced as an opportunity to heal, change and grow. This year has already presented with huge local and global events further altering the already disturbed balance of our planet. We have been deeply and profoundly affected by the way the earth is rapidly changing and how this has affected the balance in our own bodies, our family and communities. After a burning summer and an unknown winter ahead, how can we support ourselves and our children to nurture our own balance of body, mind and spirit? How can we yield to the ways of Autumn? Let us reflect. How does the earth express itself in this season? How do creatures naturally and instinctively behave? Our flora and fauna live in total trust and harmony with nature. The earth notices the change of shorter days and cooler temperatures. There is a movement of letting go towards the earth and inside the earth. Trees let go of leaves, and move their energy and nutrient supply into their roots. Animals retreat, gather food, nourish, move slower, hibernate and regenerate. We as humans beings, a part of the intricacy of nature are invited to take part in the expression of cycles, walk the same seasonal path, dance the same dance, move with the natural flow. Autumn offers the opportunity to retreat, let go, move slower with intention, go within, eat nourishing foods, keep warm, rest, conserve energy, inner reflection and healing parts of us that are calling for our attention. After the languid repose of heat, our bodies are awoken by the crispness in the air. What a celebration! Bringing balance and healing into our lives is individual, however, how humbling it is to honour nature and remember we are a part of it and can naturally move with it. Physically this may mean to nourish and feed your body warm, wholesome, seasonal foods such as soups and slow cooked stews, root vegetables, bringing herbs and spices into our foods to generate warmth and increasing digestion. It may mean more rest, earlier nights, a focus on sleeping habits and ways to help the body to wind down, let go and deeply rest and heal while we sleep. Movement and exercise to keep our body warm, oxygenated, stimulating our circulation and feeling grounded. For our minds we may wish to create more space by pulling back on activities and simplifying our days, not over committing to things that increase stress and moving more towards quality not quantity. Practicing some mindfulness in our days giving the benefit of increased awareness of our thoughts and actions, self compassion, acceptance of self and others, feeling more positive. For our spirit this may involve infinite creative ways to get connected to ourselves, to our nature and the earth we live on. Being in nature is very healing in itself. You may sit under a tree and observe the leaves falling and invite yourself to let go, you may make a fire, burning the fallen sticks in the garden and be moved to burn some of your own dross. You may watch water flowing, moving, rain seeping into the soils, feeling deeply nourished by the earth. Gardening is a wonderfully rewarding space to dig around, compost, nourish the soils, prune the dead branches and make fires. As you do this in your external environment you may take that metaphor into your inner world and spent time in your inner garden. What is growing? what needs tending to? we can nourish our soils, soak in the warm sun, weed the attitudes and habits that have grown too many, and take part in ways that are healing for us.

15.01.2022 After brewing this idea for many years and many clients and mama’s saying ‘yes please, I need one of those’, it is finally coming into creation. I am creating a... First-aid kit for parents and children. A pouch of remedies to have on hand for all those times... falls, bruises, fever, colds, acute illness. Remedies to treat cuts, grazes. Aromatherapy when you need instant calm, sleep and a sense that all will be ok. I have gathered and put together a beautiful pack of homoeopathic remedies, herbal tincture, ointment, poultice and aromatherapy, wrapped in a lovingly made soft fabric pouch (sewn by me) and am in the process of writing the accompanying booklet guide. I’m so excited to get this out to you and present little workshops to parent groups and teach you how to use your kit effectively. So.... watch this space and let me know if you are interested in knowing more, reserving a kit (I will make an initial small run of kits) and if your interested in getting together a group to hold a workshop. Hoping to launch all this in April. Stay tuned xx See more

13.01.2022 Would you take a look at the colour! As if I dipped my water colour paintbrush in. This iridescent Greeney bluish liquid come from a infusion of my garden Nettl...e. Nettle is a perfect spring clean tonic. It is one of the local SuperGreens that get overlooked. This nutritive herb contains high iron (41.8mg per 100gms), calcium, magnesium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, silica, chromium, Sulfur, iodine, zinc and copper. Nettle contains a rich source of antioxidants with Vitamin A,E and C. Herbalists love using Nettle as a circulatory stimulant, blood cleaner and oxygenator assisting the body to transport oxygen to the vital organs and cells. It stimulates red blood cell production through the spleen and nourishes all areas. GREAT for low iron states, poor circulation, tiredness. Great one for the ladies after your lunar cycle time to replenish blood and iron stores. We also use it in cases of Rheumatism and arthritis, diabetes ( lowers blood sugar), skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, asthma and hay fever (anti histamine and anti inflammatory effects). MAke a tea! Mix it with other herbs such as peppermint and licorice. If you find it fresh, you can steam it and add it a boiled egg on toast, add to soups and stews, throw the young leaves into a salad. The fresh leaves make a wonderful infusion, you feel so clean after a glass. For the summer time, make a cold infusion (add some honey or xylitol to sweeten) and refrigerate for a top Spring clean bevi! If you can’t access the fresh (most of my crop has gone to seed now) pick up some dry leaf. We have a good fresh stock of Australian organic NETTLE, HERE at the Apothecary. We can even make a tailored tea brew for you and your spring clean time. Salute! To your health. See more

08.01.2022 Onion and garlic immune and cough syrup. As the cooler weather arrives, its time to warm up our bodies and keep our immune fire burning. Garlic and onion are well known for their antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, antimicrobial actions as well as blood cleaning and clearing congestion. They contain Vitamins A, B and C and a good handful of minerals including sulphur which helps to clear the skin, cleanse the liver and build a strong immune system. These herbs have... time tested benefits for ailments such as respiratory ailments of all kinds, earache, arthritis, gout, diabetes, exhaustion, cholesterol and blood sugar lowering and stimulating circulation. Garlic fights infection by its odorous compound allicin, which is a powerful antibiotic. I could write pages of the use and ability of these herbs alone, but for now lets get to our garlic and onion syrup to make for warding off the viruses and vampires and keeping our immune defences at the ready! From your kitchen; 1-2 onions (preferably organically grown) peel and chop in thick rings (crying is also healing!) 1-3 heads of garlic (preferably organically grown) peel and chop cloves in half 1-2 sticks of cinnamon 1 1/2 cups of raw honey additional options: 3 whole cloves, 2 Tbsp grated/ sliced ginger , 2 Tbsp of slippery elm powder for more soothing action to throat, a handful of fresh sage and thyme leaf. Method: Place all ingredients in a stainless steel pot and gently warm on lowest heat until the honey is all runny. Turn off the stove and let it marinate for a few hours. Pour into a big glass jar and further marinate for a few days. Give it a bit of a shake daily. It is now ready to use. You can either leave all ingredients in the jar or sift them out, keeping the onion and garlic for cooking and composting the rest. Place the jar in the fridge and consume over a few months. Dose- Adults - 1 tablespoon, once to several times daily. Children 1 teaspoon, once or several times daily (can add this to their meals ie in rice or soup). I prefer to imbibe it at room temperature rather than cold. You will find what suits you best. For a milder, more children taste friendly version, just use the onion and additional options of slippery elm, sage and thyme leaves.

04.01.2022 In 2015 the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC)conducted a review of evidence to remove homeopathy from being available as part of your natural health care.
