06.01.2022 A recent audit conducted by SafeWork Australia looking into Hazardous Manual Tasks (HMT) on construction work sites found that: *Musculoskeletal (MSD) disorders prevention was not a priority for principal contractors *Little leadership was being demonstrated in prevention *Manual task risk management was not systematic.... Principal contractors have a critical role in eliminating or minimising the HMT risks at construction work sites. Their legal obligations include influencing the planning, design and work processes before work starts and managing subcontractor work processes and health and safety performance during construction. Reducing musculoskeletal disorders in construction requires strong industry leadership and collaboration with all those involved to ensure the risks to safety from HMT are identified and managed systematically.
