18.01.2022 Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isnt always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (dont sp...end more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldnt defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, - By his parents, Truth and Trust - By his wife, Discretion - By his daughter, Responsibility - And by his son, Reason He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers: - I Know My Rights - I Want It Now - Someone Else Is To Blame - Im a Victim - Pay me for Doing Nothing Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. 12.01.2022 Unlike regular crash tests, there are not many tests that would provide insight into whats the best way to keep our pets safe in cars. The conclusion that can be drawn from the few such tests is that seat belts are not the best and safest way to go. When they are only secured with seat belts, dogs and cats are easily thrown around on the back seat, and if they are placed on the front passenger seat, they can be hurt by the air bags. A harness is far safer than a belt. The pe...t is secured by several straps, which are usually broad and padded, and they keep the dog or cat well restrained. The harness should have a short tether that connects it to the seat belt buckle. That should prevent your pet from sticking its head through the window or jumping out of the car the moment you open the doors. Finally, pet crates are also pretty safe. If you decide to put your pet in a crate, then make it a metal one, instead of plastic, which is more fragile. The pets movement will be more constrained, and you might feel sorry for it, but it will be secure and it wont bother the driver, which may lead to an accident. You just have to make sure the crate is big enough so that the cat or dog can have enough room to stand up and stretch during the trip. In the end, it all comes down to how much space you want to give your pet and whether you are taking it for a long ride or just a short trip around town. The pet is safer with harnesses than with a seat belt on, but it would be best to put it in a crate which will keep it pretty safe in case of an accident. Also, its very important to keep your dog or cat in the back seat, for their own safety and the safety of the driver and other passengers. See more
