25.01.2022 Hi folks I am not sure if you are aware of the latest round of changes, but from midnight Saturday, restrictions for us in Whyalla will revert to the pre-lockdown situations. To jog your memory, they were: 100 people at church at 4m2 per person density. 10 people at homes (includes people living there).... 150 at weddings and 50 at funerals 50 at private gatherings, but that will be subject to density rule. Travel between regions in SA will be allowed, but the advice is only if necessary. So for connect groups, pastoral care or just visiting people you love, we should be ok (connect groups could meet at Bunyarra if necessary). Regarding Church on Sunday, a fair bit of prep for an online service has occurred, so we are just staying with that this week. So enjoy church in your PJ's. Richard

23.01.2022 Hi everyone. I was reading a passage in 2 Corinthians 3 this morning where in verse 5 and 6 Paul talks about how God has made him and those like him competent ministers of the new covenant. I was reminded that Jesus, when He calls us to follow Him, does not do that to just make up the numbers. No, each of us has a part to play in ministering this new covenant of the Spirit in this world. Paul is a great example. As a tent-maker, he ministered this new covenant. (Yes, Pau...l actually made tents for a living.) While God was his competence in that ministry, do we think God was not interested in Paul’s tent-making? Were not Paul’s skills and attitude in that work as important as his skills and attitude to planting Churches? And if Jesus helped him in sharing the gospel, then would He also not help Paul make tents, deal with cantankerous customers and shifty suppliers? And wasn’t that tent-making skill important to Jesus when He called Paul? Of course it was. I know that many people suffer from anxiety in its various forms and to various degrees. Sometimes that suffering is about our competence in a personal/physical sense (about what I look like and who I am), a vocational sense (about what I do), or a worship sense (about my relationship with Jesus). My experience has been that when I rest in Jesus’ call for me to follow Him, a call that was a matter of choice for Jesus, my personal anxiety reduces across the board. I become a less anxious father, husband, friend, worker and minister. I become more competent in Jesus. Oh, and as a side benefit, I waste less time to because it’s not as hard to be, do and worship. But, this is not a once for all thing. It is an everyday thing that is very hard to make a habit out of. I hope this helps anyone. Let me know if there is an issue. Richard

21.01.2022 Reminder: we have our PAWS meeting tonight for those who want to pray for our 'extended' Bunyarra family. 8:00pm at the Middletons. If you need directions let them know.

21.01.2022 WBC Thank you for journeying together through what has been an interesting and unusual year. Loving God passionately, others purposefully and one another wholeheartedly has often looked different as change became our constant companion. And yet your faithfulness to God has so often reflected the Father’s compassion, grace and mercy displayed to us in Christ Jesus and made our through the Holy Spirit. I have often been touched deeply by your prayers and concern for others, ...and the lengths you have gone to in expressing that love. While at times I struggled through this year, I know that I have been repeatedly upheld by God through your prayers and support. Thank you for allowing me to be your pastor. It is my prayer that each of you and your families will experience and enjoy Christmas this year. I pray that, even though there will be unwanted changes for some, God’s peace, hope, joy and love will illuminate the relationships you share, and that there will be connection true and intimate even over distance that will be blessed by God’s grace and presence. I pray that as you reflect honestly on the year that has been, you will see that very mighty hand of God upholding you and sustaining you as you have worked out your salvation in the sure knowledge that God will bring to completion that which He has started in you. I pray that it will be love and not social distancing, grace and not face masks, hope and not lock-downs, joy and not apprehension that you choose to remember and share with your loved ones. I look forward to next year; to what God has planned and, I pray, to the harvest of people in this city coming to faith in Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. God bless you and keep you; may His face shine upon you, and give you Peace. Richard

19.01.2022 Hi WBC Not out of the woods yet is a phrase that comes to mind to describe where we are at. We will meet online this week in the same way we met earlier in the year. I will let you know when the sermon and prayer links are available. Home groups are cancelled too, unless you want to meet over zoom (this will be us elders.). Hopefully this lockdown won’t last long.... Personally, I will find this lockdown a challenge. My normal rhythms of connecting with God and others have been disrupted. Just like yours, I suspect. But I was reminded that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, just that it is on his terms not mine. God also reminded me that this is the very time for us to be ready to provide a reason for the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Hope, love, kindness and selflessness are things that can end up as rare as toilet paper at Coles, but they are the things the Holy Spirit brings and he is not hindered by travel restrictions! Be encouraged friends I will see you online. Richard

19.01.2022 Hi everyone. Due to the Covid Rollercoaster this week, our church for Nov 22nd is online. The service is ready for you now whenever you want to access it. Let me encourage you to take the time to go from start to finish, participating when you can. Lyrics for the songs are available through the cc button on YouTube. The link for the service is: http://www.whyallabaptist.net//invitation-ecclesiastes-31/ ... If you think someone will be watching this on their own, let me encourage you to either invite them to your place or go to theirs and do this together. Just remember Covid rules and to turn up the volume. God bless

15.01.2022 Hi Whyalla Baptist Church Just a short message to let you know that we are back together this Sunday for worship. We also have a Partner’s meeting after the service. Anyone is welcome to attend, and if you are considering becoming a partner, it would be good for you to come along. However, only partners can vote. I also want to take this opportunity to encourage us in our love for one another. As you know covid-19 restrictions still apply, so we are governed by the one pe...rson per 4 suare meters density requirements; we are limited to 100 people (not including those who are part of the service); and the social distancing rule of 1.5 metres between people should be embraced unless you are of the same family, you live together, you are friends or you meet together regularly. To help us do these things, we have a Covid-Marshall who will remind us of our responsibilities. To help them, I want to encourage you to not chat in the pews, nor chat at the back of the auditorium. Rather make use of the space we have outside in either the lawned area or carpark. FYI Sunday’s temperature is looking cooler at about 22. I hope to see you on Sunday.

14.01.2022 As you probably know, we have a combined Christmas service this evening at Life Unlimited @ 7pm. We have no Christmas Day service this year, but are back to normal on Sunday @10am. If you are looking for a Christmas Day Service, the Uniting Church have a Christmas Morning service at 9am as do the Anglican Church. I am sure they would welcome you as brothers and sisters in Christ should you rock up there. Richard

13.01.2022 Hi Friends Just want to encourage you to persevere in prayer for the building work that we are undertaking at Bunyarra. (If you don't know, we are selling most of the top floor to the Medical centre next door. It has beena saga!) At last Sunday’s partner’s meeting, we prayed about the building work and renovation of the Caretaker’s flat for K4J and other users. We prayed boldly about spiritual things that may have been hindering the work. Since then, I have tried to contac...t our electrician again (4th time in the last 3 weeks) and he responded (the first time in 3 weeks), which turned into a brief meeting this morning and a plan to do the plans we need. I also met with a building contractor on Tuesday afternoon (we missed one another earlier) to get quotes for renovating the flat. I am reminded that we are in a spiritual battle, but we have authority in Christ Jesus who has all authority! Amen! Keep praying friends.

11.01.2022 Great opportunity to learn, and it’s free!
