21.01.2022 A short film written and performed by participants of Whyalla YMCA Leap Takers program was awarded as runner-up in the 60 second adult film category at the 2020... Whyalla Film Festival. The film was made on site at the Whyalla Recreation Centre and was the only video nominated that included subtitles, allowing hearing impaired people to follow the story. The award was received by Whyalla Leap Takers Coordinator David Agius who praised the initiative and creativity of the program’s participants, who worked hard as a team to produce the film. This is an extraordinary achievement given Leap Takers is a disability group and they entered their film in a category open to all. The work was 100 per cent theirs and the effort they put in to overcome the challenges involved and come up with such a good production was inspirational, he said. YMCA LEAP provides inclusive recreation opportunities for people living with a disability. Leap services help participants try new things, engage with the community and live an active, healthy life. The program is available as part of an NDIS plan. View the award-winning Whyalla Leap video here: https://vimeo.com/453859534/9d852452ca
