25.01.2022 DAY1: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannies, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. I will start the count off with the biggest Red Emperor we have caught to date. 18.1kg of pure beast and so happy my oldman got it right around his 60th Birthday. ... We had been fishing wide off Double Island Point the night before and caught some really nice reds before I decided to come back in close early the next morning. Around 20km from DI I found a nice show on reasonably flat ground where id caught some nice big pearl perch and the odd good snapper before. I put the anchor out and told Dad to drop a line before the anchor had even pulled up tight. He was instantly smashed and lined peeled from his reel and continued to do so most of the way up. He called it for a big amberjack so applied a bit more drag and went pretty hard on it. I still remember it like yesterday as I looked over the side and saw a monster red rise from the depths and hit the surface. It was a dead set horse and to say we were shocked and stoked would be an understatement. Seeing that we were chasing pearlies we had gone to double paternoster rigs and when he pulled the red up the rig had been busted off between the two paternoster loops so clearly he had hooked two big fish and they fought against each other which caused it to break. Luckily the top loop knot held together so at least one of the two fish was landed. This is the reason I was always recommend only running one paternoster loop to avoid hooking two fish and possibly losing both fish. Regards, Greg Lamprecht

23.01.2022 DAY13: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. ***show us your coronation trout pics****... Coronation trout are up there with some of the prettiest fish in the ocean. They have great eating qualities and are often caught on newly found isolated reefs as well as large reefy structures that offer great protection for these fish to hide in. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

21.01.2022 DAY21: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Cracking 16.7kg red wide of Fraser Island. I sounded over a small isolated rock wide of fraser which showed great fish sitting all around it on the sounder. ... I got the boys to drop a line while I backed the boat up with the strong current. As soon as both of them hit bottom they were smashed by quality fish and Dad was first up with a mid 13kg fish followed by Macca with a cracking 16.7kg and 95cm fish which was a new PB for him. That fish ended up going front cover of BushnBeach fishing mag as well. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

20.01.2022 DAY9: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. This 17.02kg red came from the breaksea spit region off Fraser Island. We were fishing an isolated rock and the sharks started eating all our fish so we stopped fishing and put the underwater cameras down for a look. ... There were some good reds and other species sitting down there along with a couple big bull sharks. I drove away that morning and had a plan of coming back just on dark to see if we could pull some good fish and hopefully avoid the sharks. It was blowing about 15knots of northerly on dark and I was backing the boat up into the wind trying to stay on top of the rock. I got the boys to drop a line straight down and It wasnt long before Trento was hooked up and struggling to get the fish moving. He went pretty hard on it knowing the shark issue we had earlier that day and the blood was pumping not knowing if it would make it to the boat. Luckily for us it did and it was a one of those special sized reds that most would dream of catching. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

19.01.2022 DAY12: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Paying more tax really does suck. We had a 3 way hook up on nice reds wide of Fraser one night and ended up with a big tangle. This fish was sitting out the back just in view while we tried to quickly undo the tangle. Within 5 seconds a big tiger shark came up smashed this cracking red right in front of us which was super disappointing. ...We still got a good feed off it and remember if you have a fish sharked it must be of legal size to keep it even after being sharked. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

18.01.2022 After taking my boat on an adventure to the swains we had plans to come back to refuel at Yeppoon and then take both my 5m centre console and 7mtr Riptide 120km up the CQ coastline to the shoalwater bay region for our 2nd adventure of our holidays. Due to bad weather this didnt happen and we headed back home to Brisbane a little disappointed we couldnt complete the trip. After blowing hard for the following 7 days a good weather window appeared for the next 6 days and seei...Continue reading

18.01.2022 DAY4: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Bundaberg jack and nannygai. It was late afternoon and the bite had gone really dead so I used that time to sound around which resulted in me finding around 4 very small rocks less than 2mtrs high and no bigger than a small car. These small rocks had reasonable amounts of bait on them and the odd decent fish surrounding them but we could...nt lose a bait if we tried. I decided to take a gamble and hang around until sunset in hope of producing some decent fish right on the peak bite period. These very small isolated spots can be very hit and miss but in my head I knew there was a good chance these spots had probably never been fished before and good fish would be in the vicinity. We started fishing them as the sun went down patiently waiting for a solid fish to come along. The fish seemed timid with the odd bite and nudge of the baits here and there so I let out a bit more slack line on the running ball sinker rig I was using. This helped and even though I had a bit of slack line out I could feel the bait being eaten so I quickly turned the reel and sunk the hooks into a really solid fish which turned out to be a beautiful large mouth nannygai. We gave that spot another 15mins with only a spangled emperor coming over the side so quickly moved to the next spot not far away. First drop Dad and I hooked up instantly and this time Dad pulled a beautiful big Jack and I closely followed with another nice Nannygai as pictured. The next hour produced another jack and more cracking nannygai before completely shutting down. I was glad the plan worked and happy that we had caught those species as the night before we had done really well on the red emperor less than 2km away so it was great to find some different fish for the trip. Regards Greg Lamprecht

17.01.2022 DAY15: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. **Red Mayhem** A few years back I took the Wilson lads Troy and Clint for a red fish off DI/Fraser Island to test some Venom rods, Zerek plastics and Mustad hooks out. We started fishing some usual haunts when I ran over a new rock absolutely loaded with Reds. We had a great session on them and after getting more than enough for a good f...eed we left them biting to go fish in other areas. These fish remained on that spot for nearly 6mths and we only took a handful of reds on two other trips before they moved on. Before we left on the last trip I dropped the underwater cameras down and captured some of the most amazing red footage Ive ever seen. A beautiful sight of more than 60 big reds sitting in a school off the side of the rock without a care in the world. That footage is something Ive wanted to capture for a long time and I look forward to sharing it with you all one day. Cheers, Greg Lamprecht

17.01.2022 DAY6: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. 16.4kg red caught just before the 2007 Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Classic started. We arrived a few days early for the comp and with good weather we decided to have a pre fish while the weather was good. ... I searched pretty hard away from the southern gardner banks region and found a nice looking rock about 4 mtrs high. I couldnt leave it without having a drop and straight away I hooked a good fish only to have it sharked pretty quickly. My mate Rob aka Macca also hooked up soon after and it had him buckled over peeling line off his stella. Macca tightened the drag and went real hard on it to try beat the sharks and it wasnt long before this big beautiful 16.4kg red hit the surface. I was stocked that macca just pulled his PB red but gutted that it was right before the comp lol. To rub salt in the wound Macca hooked another brute east of the sandy cape on the last day of the comp only to have it pull the hooks a couple mtrs under the boat before I could slip the net under it. Although it was hard to tell the true size we were pretty confident it was bigger than the 16.4kg beast he caught prior. You win some you lose some. Thats fishing. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

17.01.2022 DAY7: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Large mouth nannygai are widely caught up and down the east coast of QLD. These fish are often referred to as "silvers" particularly from the North QLD fishos. This fish is a great example why this is the case and instead of showing its bright scarlet red colour, it was pulled aboard dull and almost silver.... I believe theres several factors contributing to this which we often see among other species as well. Catching them at night time plays a huge role in seeing fish that are very light in colour compared to normal and Ive also seen it when fishing small isolated structures surrounded by sand like the nannygai pictured. In most cases fish change colours due to the level of stress it experiences but normally it does the opposite and makes them bright in colour. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

15.01.2022 DAY14: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Blast from the past at 1770. I was sounding on the west side of Lady Musgrave island area many moons ago and came across one of the biggest schools of reds Ive seen with good fish to 14 and 15kg as pictured. ... The sounder was over 5mtrs thick with them and they were spread out over a large flat rubble bottom in the middle of nowhere. I would have estimated there could have been well over a 100 reds schooled up and although they were there the next day the following trip they had moved on and Ive never seen another red there again. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

15.01.2022 DAY16: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. I caught this beautiful Large Mouth Nannygai wide of Bundaberg on Zerek Live Shrimp Plastic and 15lb line. It was a new spot I ran over and we quickly went back for a drop. I was using a 2oz custom made jig head to get it down fast and work the plastic around the small rock where the fish were located. It wasnt long before it was smash...ed and put in a great fight on the light gear. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

14.01.2022 DAY28: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. We were fishing wide of Bundaberg late one afternoon and had caught a good snapper and red from a very small isolated rock. The fishing was pretty slow but I could still see good fish on the sounder so I decided to go anchor on it and be patient. ... Just as the sun disappeared we started catching some nice nannygai, grassies and reds and I was hoping we would see a really good red among them. It wasnt long before I felt hussar biting away at my large flesh bait and occasionally a bit of a nudge from a much larger fish. I waited a while longer until I felt that bigger fish nudge the bait again and quickly sank the hooks into a thumping fish. The rod loaded up and I knew it was the calibre of fish we were looking for as it played up like a second hand lawn mower. It turned out to be a cracking mid 15kg red that was very light in colour which we often see at night. Another memorable moment while getting the oldman to hold the fish with me. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

13.01.2022 DAY29: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Another low 15kg red from Fraser. This fish came from a different kind of structure to what we normally chase them on. Instead of targeting small isolated rocks, this particular area is very flat but has a considerable amount of live bottom such as low lying soft and hard corals. A well set up sounder will pick this up and the best way ...to fish these areas is to do long drifts through it as the fish wont be concentrated to one small area but more so "grazing in the paddock" Cheers Greg Lamprecht

12.01.2022 DAY3: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Funny story behind this Trout capture. We were fishing off the Breasksea Spit in the middle of the day with perfect conditions. The fishing had gone dead quiet and I had a good mate fishing close by in his boat so I drove over to have a chat with him. I pulled up alongside them to see that no one was fishing and all the boys had a weird l...ook on their faces trying to tell us something. I then noticed my mate hanging off the back of his boat right in the middle of doing a number 2. Everyone erupted into laughter and I hit reverse to try and move away when I noticed a wicked show on the sounder. I asked the other boys if they were fishing this spot and they said no they have drifted from another spot ages away which I suspected they had done. I told the boys to quickly drop their lines down much to the disgust of my mate doing the number 2 lol. Soon as Foxy hit bottom he got smashed and the rod loaded up with a cracking fish. Everyone was having a good laugh at the situation which got even better when this beautiful big blue spot trout hit the surface. The boys on the other boat couldnt believe it and to be honest either could we but it made for a funny story and one that we wont forget in a hurry :-) See more

12.01.2022 Cool to see humpback whales near horseshoe Bay, Peel Island this afternoon. The bay can be full of surprises at times

11.01.2022 MORETON BAY "BENEATH THE SURFACE" underwater footage. ***Wrecks, red emporer, flathead, qld grouper, black spot tuskfish, rays, nannygai, morwong, lionfish, cod, chinaman, squid and more*** Almost 10 years ago we started capturing underwater footage of fish in their natural habitat which went into our DVDs. Ive since spent hundreds of hours collecting underwater footage for a future project and recently purchased a Fifish V6 underwater drone from Underwater Australasia to sp...eed this process up. Heres a small sample of the amazing sea life and wrecks Ive captured in southern moreton bay using various filming techniques with a lot recently coming from the Fifish V6 underwater drone. Ive also included a brief look at some footage of red emperor, nannygai and a minke whale we captured off central qld last month. I look forward to bringing you more footage of this amazing underwater world we fish from above. Be sure to follow us on youtube and instagram for more up coming material. Regards, Greg Lamprecht

10.01.2022 DAY17: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. 18kg monster wide of Bundaberg. I had spent over a day sounding a new area wide of Bundy which resulted in very little for the effort we had put in. ... On the second day I continued sounding and just when i was about to give up I came across a wicked show on the sounder. We went back for a drift and it turned into one of the most insane red bites you could ever want. There were two massive schools of reds feeding on small glass fish (small red bait an inch long) with one school around the 10kg mark and then another school of big fish around that 13 to 18kg range. We caught 5 fish between 15 and 18.04kg that trip and will go down as one of the most insane red bites in quality and quantity weve come across. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

09.01.2022 DAY22: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Another cracker jack from the breaksea spit fraser island. It was one of those afternoons that turned it on both weather and fish wise. The fishing in the arvo was pretty dead but we were confident just on dark things would heat up and that they did. ... Bid reds, blue moari cod, snapper and this beautiful jack all in a space of an hour after the sun went down. Great fishing with good mates and one we wont forget in a hurry.

09.01.2022 DAY5: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Blast from the past. My first Red on a soft plastic. We hit an epic patch of reds off 1770 back in 2007 and I decided to try and catch my first red on soft plastic. We had a bit of wind and tide so I put a heavy jig head and a 5inch squidgie on. I dropped it down and started working it close to the bottom and got smashed straight away. I...t felt like a cracking fish and I couldnt believe it when this 13.5kg red hit the surface. What a way to start my reds on soft plastics account. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

08.01.2022 We entered the Garmin Little Ships Reef Rumble as "Team Suzuki" on the weekend and managed to win back to back overall boat champion, champion team snapper, champion team pearl perch, champion team kingfish and also fish of the tournament being a big bar cod. We fished hard in some pretty average conditions with Friday afternoon and Saturday turning pretty ugly but we persisted and found a heap of good Pearl perch, snapper and bar cod to score the most points overall of the l...isted species in the comp.(each fish is measured, pic taken and recorded on the boat) Once again Gordon Tripletts team Garmin were on fire and made us work a lot harder then what we wanted but we managed to get them in the end. Even after this Gordon was nice enough to offer his help and dropped the tinnie we won to my house. Thanks heaps Gordo. Special thanks to the Little Ship Game Fish Club and sponsors for another great comp. Your efforts were once again greatly appreciated. 08.01.2022 DAY30 AND THE LAST RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. LAST PIC OF THE MONTH: This pic goes back over 20 years when the red obsession began. Back then we fished no further than 15 to 20mile off Double Island Point and caught the odd big red like this one pictured. ... The urge to head wider and target these fish became greater and greater but back then recreational fisherman rarely went wide to target these fish. Like most people you get inspiration from others to try new ideas, species or locations and for me it came from Craig Tomkinson who was a commercial fisherman and wrote articles about his wide red trips for BushnBeach fishing magazine. Although Craig fished a lot different to myself by using heavy tackle on deck winches etc I found his wide shelf trips up and down the Fraser & DI coast really interesting and I thank him for the inspiration and help he gave me. All this sparked my own interest in doing the same thing and although it would only be from a 5.5mtr plate boat I chose the weather carefully and began going wide trip after trip. It took years of learning and persistence to not only work the wide DI and Fraser areas out but more importantly learn about Red Emperor and their ideal habitat. This helped greatly in fishing other areas of the QLD coastline and being able to successfully target them anywhere we went. The red obsession runs strong some 20 years later and some of the monster reds I have caught with my dad and mates alongside me makes the journey so much better. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

08.01.2022 DAY25: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Almost forgot todays pic. Not much to be said about this one. The old boy with a cracking Double Island Point Red. Paternoster rig and mullet fillet for bait. Kiss principle. Keep It Simple Stupid. ... Cheers Greg Lamprecht

08.01.2022 DAY23: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. This lone red was just over 15kg and caught on an isolated rock off Fraser Island. The frame along with others were sent to fisheries for ageing and sexing and this fish was aged at 24 years old and female. This was somewhat interesting as a vast majority of big reds are generally male fish. All the other reds that were caught from anot...her location on that trip turned out to be all male fish. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

08.01.2022 I recently had a lady contact me asking if I'd sign the Breaksea & Beyond DVD for her son as he was a keen supporter and all he wanted for his 14th Birthday was this DVD. Apparently he watches the Double Island Point & Beyond DVD all the time so I was happy to help out a future generation fisho and send him a complimentary signed DVD and I thought as a little extra I would send him a video Birthday message for this morning as well. Although I get embarrased by this stuff, to be sent a video of him opening his present and the reaction that followed makes the effort so rewarding and not only did it make his day but it made mine as well Happy Birthday Dylan and thanks for your support champ. Cheers Greg

07.01.2022 DAY2: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. This would be one of the most memorable Jacks Ive caught not only because of the size of it but for the fact it was my first ever Jack and one of the bucket list fish I wanted to catch on that trip. ... We were staying at Orchid Beach, Fraser Island and waited for a good window of weather where we had plans of beach launching and heading to the breaksea spit in search of new ground in areas we hadnt fished before. We had searched hard all day and found plenty of new ground with a few nice reds, blue moari cod and mixed reef species coming over the side. I was using a running ball sinker rig with an 8 ball sinker and pilchard inside a squid (c__k in a sock) for bait. Just before dark I hooked a cracking fish which turned out to be one of my bucket list fish, a massive long nose emperor which was such a cool fish and made my trip. Just when you think the day couldnt get any better, I hooked another brute fish a few hours later that had me buckled over and pulled a heap of line. I couldnt pick the species and the closest species it felt like was an amberjack but it had a weird tail tump from mid water to the surface. I looked over the side in anticipation and couldnt believe it, there laying on the surface was a monster jack, a fish the breaksea was renowned for over the years and the second species on my bucket list that I wanted to catch that trip. We searched and fished nearly all night and pulled some more cracking reds, snapper and a sharked GT. That was a night I wont forget and the start of the many jacks we would continue to catch over the years. More info on the reef Jacks to come soon. 07.01.2022 SWAINS REEF TRAILER BOAT TRIP: After lots of planning and preparation we launched my 7mtr Riptide Platey with a 300 hp Suzuki outboard from keppel bay marina Yeppoon and headed 200 plus km (120 nm) to the swains reef. I had two other mates heading out in their big 30 & 40 foot cats as well so it was nice knowing we had that added safety aspect if any of us required it. I had close to 800 ltrs of fuel on board not to mention loads of gear, ice, bait and 4 blokes which really ...Continue reading

06.01.2022 DAY10: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Fishing wide of Bundaberg on the western side of the breaksea spit has accounted for some good large mouth nannygai over years. Fishing extremely small isolated rocks with good amounts of bait on them has been the key in catching these better quality fish. ... On this particular day the fishing was really tough and the fish were biting very finicky. I had drifted off the back of a small rock and foxy had a fish mouthing and picking at the bait ever so lightly. This continued on for sometime before foxy finally struck at the fish thinking it was something small and ready to pull his line. He ended up driving the hooks into a cracking fish that pulled a heap of string and fought all the way to the boat. It was a big nannygai that went 103cm on the brag mat (pic in comments) with a fair bit of its tail missing and one of those special fish that you never forget. Luckily it was caught on camera and featured in our Breaksea & Beyond DVD Cheers, Greg Lamprecht

05.01.2022 DAY8: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. **Update I originally put the wrong description up to match these pics and said these fish were caught during a blue moon when these ones were caught during a super moon which we are actually experiencing tonight. ... We were fishing wide off Fraser island one night which happened to be on the night of one of the biggest Super moons of sometime. A Super moon occurs when the earth is much closer to the moon than normal. Even to the human eye the moon looks bigger than normal and out of the 12 (sometimes 13) full moons we may see a year, 3 to 4 of them fall into the super moon category. The fishing on this night was exceptionally good and we stopped on a small rock with big overhangs and caves around 3am in the morning. Straight away had these good jacks smash us along with snapper, reds and a mix of other species which we were lucky enough to capture on camera for the "Double Island Point & Beyond" DVD. Mangrove Jack are known to move out of the estuaries and on to the offshore reefs when they reach sexual maturity. Over the years Ive seen massive numbers of these fish on the reefs when we have dropped the underwater cameras down. Funny thing is theyre rarely caught by fishermen due to their temperamental feeding patterns. Over the years weve found the most successful time to catch them is around the full moon and also fishing around 1am to 3am in the morning. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

03.01.2022 DAY20: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. We were fishing wide of Fraser Island late one night and the fish had gone right off the bite. I was drifting away from a small isolated rock and noticed some fish sitting hard on the bottom about 50 to 100mtrs behind the rock. ... We did several drifts and couldnt get a bite so I told the boys to pull their lines in. As the oldman was winding his line up he got smashed and a heap of line peeled off the reel. It was pulling hard and we were all thinking it might be an Amberjack but got a great surprise when a 15.6kg hit the surface. Great memories holding up big red fish the old boy. 03.01.2022 DAY19: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. Big 14.04kg 106cm and 7kg Large mouth nannygai we caught in close off Double Island Point on a live yakka while filming the Double Island Point & Beyond DVD. ... I went to target these fish for the DVD and couldnt have been happier when I nailed this horse which fought bloody hard all the way to the surface. I anchored some rubble ground with good bait shows and patiently waited for the good fish to move through. This accounted for the nannies, a good snapper and gold band jobfish. A fish I will remember for a long time. Cheers Greg Lamprecht

03.01.2022 DAY11: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. 3 of a kind. 02.01.2022 Fished wide off DI & Fraser in some fantastic conditions over the weekend. We found the fishing tough going and the current was roaring out wide which made it really hard to fish effectively. When fishing strong currents i reverse back with the current to keep the angle of the line up and down to ensure you have minimal belly in the line and baits are holding on the bottom which is important for species such as red emperor. This meant I was on the wheel most of the time putt...ing the boat in and out of reverse which can be painful at times but we persisted and caught some nice reds with the biggest going 14.02kg and also some great pearl perch with the biggest going a touch under 70cm. All fish caught on paternoster rigs using mullet and hussar fillets for bait. I spent a considerable amount of time searching for new ground at 20 to 25 knots and found some great looking rocks on the furuno FCV295 for future trips and also come across a fridge floating out there which had a school of the smallest wahoo ive ever seen. A quick cast with a Zerek stick bait had them climbing all over it and after a quick pic and release we moved on as they were all undersize. We put in a big effort to catch the fish we did and covered 430km for a day and a half fishing. 01.01.2022 DAY24: A RED FISH A DAY FOR APRIL Reds, Nannygai, Jacks & Trout - I will share a Red fish a day with stories and helpful tips along the way. 17kg Breaksea beast. After finding some new ground a few days prior we waited for a weather window to head back and give it a good crack. We were confident it would produce some good fish and it didnt disappoint. Unfortunately the trip was pulled short after getting a 10/0 big gun hook through my calf muscle with a cobia still attached... to it. I had to get off the Fraser island as no one else including the Ambos on the island would remove it which made for a long painful day. A couple days later we went back to the area and smashed some awesome reds, snapper and reef jack. 01.01.2022 Had a great day in the Bay and in close offshore with the oldboy yesterday. We trolled up some good squid to start with and then had the most epic flathead session on plastics. We were getting a fish nearly every cast and all good ones between 60 and 80cm on 6lb and Zerek flat shad plastics in fat betty colour. After giving Dad a quick crash course on the technique to use he nailed a cracker on his 2nd cast and was his first flatty on a plastic. Who said you cant teach old d...ogs new tricks. I lost count how many we caught but decided to leave them alone and slip out the south passage bar to fish the arvo. It was a bit blowy and sloppy for the tinnie but we stayed in close and got a great feed of pearlies, snapper and moses perch before slipping back through the bar just after dark. 01.01.2022 Went for a run off Brisbane yesterday to test out the new 12" Furuno tz3 multifunction displays and SC20 Satellite compass. The electronics worked mint and I spent the morning sounding for new ground between 80 and 120 mtrs wide of Moreton. I found a heap of new spots which produced our bag of big pearlies and some good eating sized bar cod. We only pulled 1 fish from each spot and moved on each time to find more ground and do the same. The current picked up before lunch so ...I headed south with it and eventually called it a day when it started to bucket down. Happy New Year everyone.
