25.01.2022 Our free Drone101 app has been updated with the new MOS and the Explanatory notes. https://www.wickedcopters.com.au/drone101-app

23.01.2022 Due to the large numbers of AROC and ELP enquiries, if you do hold an RePL only and want to beat the MOS, we are running Friday morning AROC / ELP classes at group discounts West of Brisbane. Contact us if you wish to join. You must hold an RePL sub 7kg or higher, and meet the AROC / ELP requirements. If you hold a sub 7kg Multi Rotor RePL only and wish to upgrade to a sub25kg Multi Rotor RePL, (you dont hold an AROC / ELP), we can add the AROC / ELP to the ops training at a discounted price too. Your sub7kg logbook would be required showing recency has been met for the ops training.

23.01.2022 Our new training venue plans are progressing well, with facilities for up to sub 150kg helis and multi rotors, as well as the four popular types sub 25kg. This venue is being co-ordinated with the new April 2020 regs. More on this as time goes by.

23.01.2022 One thing EVLOS has shown us is that as you get down to assessing the practical capabilities, the drones you thought were great fall out the band wagon, and the drones we thought were experimental / obsolete are perfect EVLOSsers. Over 2 years ago, we built long distance capable aeroplanes but could not use them for anything but VLOS. As soon as the June rush is over, we will be bringing them back out again to do an EVLOS assessment on them. Back then, we could have multiple remotes for takeover, up to 80km range, and be fully ACMA compliant. Imagine the potential now......! Please note that you must hold approved EVLOS procedures (or better) before flying anything beyond VLOS.

22.01.2022 Much ado about MOS! So, what changes RePL wise after 9 April this year? Well, now that we are transitioning to the new MOS, the facts are out. The good news: the course content reduces 30%, the theory assessment is closed book but simpler, and the whole course is more practically focussed in 4 days face to face. The main impact is 4 days minimum in class / webinar, and hence the cost associated with that. No more online theory at your own pace. The most affected will be t...he RePL holders wanting to uprade (vary) their current licence. This upgrade could be up to 2 days now, depending on the pilots past experience and recency / knowledge. So dont panic if you dont get your RePL before 9 April, it will not be the end of the world. It is the cost / time factor that RePL training organisations will have to balance in their pricing with the new student to instructor ratios. http://www.wickedcopters.com.au/training See more

21.01.2022 1st of September and only 6 months left for the current ReOC approvals process. Quick and low cost may be no more from March 2020, if CASA sticks to their plans. Just another change as the drone landscape transition picks up the pace towards the full MOS implementation. For those who have invested in holding RePLs sub 7 or 25, AROC and an ReOC, they will be in a market where new entrants will find it hard and costly to join post March 2020. Currently only 1720 in this ma...rket Australia wide. Not bad odds. Only 58 approved training organisations currently, but may be far less after March 2020 as the economics of the high investment to meet the MOS for training kicks in. Hope this does not happen though, because if only a few training organisations remain post March 2020, high cost and monopoly shall reign. Lets see what new updates come in the next 30 days. Never a dull drone moment!

21.01.2022 Well done to JB's Hamilton Island team we trained last week. With a team made up of experienced photographers and airport personnel, they definitely have the best of both worlds and an unbeatable environment. On the side, seeing the front and back end of the Hamilton Island guest operations, we have to say that impressive is an understatement. Again, well done to JB and his team for doing so well in the course theory and practical too.

20.01.2022 From 1st July, you no longer need to meet the 100 points of ID requirement. Only one document (passport, birth certificate, or citizenship certificate) will be required, and a drivers licence is no longer accepted. https://www.casa.gov.au//identification-requirements-will-

19.01.2022 Wicked Copters has one of our team members on the gaff rigged Schooner, South Passage, about to start the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race. This boat was built for adventure sailing and education. Unlike 17 hours for the winner to Gladstone, we will take 8 days to Gladstone and back to Brisbane.... More info on the boat here https://southpassage.org.au/... http://brisbanetogladstone.com/node/107

19.01.2022 Just when we thought it couldnt get any busier with ops and training, Australia wide, June proved us wrong. And so many more developments in CASA too. Dont forget to consider AROCs for observers and Form101-09 for those additional instruments. Cant wait for July! As we move forward with the new training material, our developing head turning learning has featured world wide as a case study for our online resources. https://www.kotobee.com/case-study/wickedcopters

19.01.2022 Wicked Copters is proud to be the leading approved training provider for Aeroplane, Helicopter and Multi Rotor (up to 25kg) and to provide training in regional areas (towns and farms) with our Mobile Learning Centre (iBEV). The image shows a rough route our Mobile Learning Center (iBEV) takes each month (between our fixed course locations). If you are in a regional area along these routes we can come to you. http://www.wickedcopters.edu.au/

18.01.2022 Forgot to add, September will see us mine based for training to the first week of October, plus our usual courses in Adelaide / Perth / Murrurundi and Brisbane to name a few.

17.01.2022 We are busy upgrading our fleet before the new Rego kicks in. We have also been able to obtain CPD points for our RePL course in NSW, others to follow. EVLOS and off shore ops are gaining momentum too, as well our complex ops testing and approvals. And as the new Part101 MOS April 2020 D-Day nears, one should be aware of 2.03 General English language proficiency standards under Part 61. Existing RePL holders that do not hold AROC and ELP, will at least need to obtain an ELP from April. Interesting! Extract from the new MOS: Note An applicant for a RePL must have general English language proficiency.

17.01.2022 Off on our next round of outback mining training with iBEV. Sub 25kg multi rotor and Sub 25kg aeroplane training. Because of the rough roads, had to add extra temp framework and straps, all arrived fine at the site.

16.01.2022 CASA have put up their COVID exemption instrument on their website https://www.casa.gov.au//e/exemption-guidance-reoc-holders

16.01.2022 Well done to JBs Hamilton Island team we trained last week. 14.01.2022 Well, that time of the year again. Heres to wishing all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Travel and fly safe during the silly season, and looking forward to 2020. 2019 was quite a year in drone terms, but 2020 looks to be far more exciting.... It is certainly out with the old and in with the new, legislation and training wise. CASAs new AC 101-01 V3 gives you a sneak peek at what will be happening from 10 April when the new MoS RePL courses start for Multi Rotor, Helicopter, Aeroplane and Powered Lift. https://www.casa.gov.au/sites/default/files/101c01.pdf https://www.casa.gov.au//advisory-circulars-101-01-remotel

12.01.2022 Well Class G airspace is now Class Google. The new OpenSky app replacing Can I fly There is a google platform. Only cost $2.2m, and with all the new no fly zones, should have been called ClosedSky as it seems the October directive is being ignored in some cases? https://www.casa.gov.au//flying-dronesre/drone-safety-apps

12.01.2022 Our new training venue plans are progressing well, with facilities for up to sub 150kg heli's and multi rotors, as well as the four popular types sub 25kg. This venue is being co-ordinated with the new April 2020 regs. More on this as time goes by.

11.01.2022 Our new offices in Sydney from July 2019. Software development, VR and Drone ops. One day online theory closeouts will also be available here. Practical flying at our usual fields in Sydney western suburbs.

11.01.2022 The next 6 weeks sees us carrying out operations and training from Hobart to Darwin and Brisbane to Perth, and many locations in between. As we approach the new MOS training requirements effective April 2020, most drone pilots are going for the RePL (with the AROC) now. From April 2020, an applicant for a RePL must have general English language proficiency, and as the AROC is required for CRP or operating under an ReOC, why not include the AROC and ELP with your RePL for th...e best bundle? Our new Structure from Motion course is also proving very popular, as you get the Mapping, 3D modelling and Asset Inspection all in one, all with free software (no expensive subscriptions needed). https://www.wickedcopters.com.au//structure-from-motion-ae

10.01.2022 Not that the CASA Can I fly There app was used by RePL drone pilots flying under an ReOC, it is strange that CASA still links to a dead site for this discontinued (?) app for the sub 2kg pilots. Wonder when the announcement of a replacement app covering the new part 101 MOS will be made, we know it has been awarded? Rwy Chk is one alternative to use in the interim for the sub 2kg pilots. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/rwy-check/id1054845923?mt=8... Seems some functionality is coming back, but in the interim CASA has added links for the major airport areas. Were aware that the there is an issue with our Can I fly there? Drone app. We are currently working with the developer to restore the app as soon as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience. Well keep you updated and let you know when the app is functioning again. You must keep at least 5.5km away from controlled aerodromes. Controlled aerodromes usually have an air traffic control tower at them. You can find a list of civilian air traffic control towers on Airservices website. Many Defence airfields also have control towers. The following maps, produced by Airservices, show these areas in purple. Adelaide/ Paraeld Brisbane Canberra Gold Coast Melbourne/ Essendon Moorabbin Perth and Jandakot Sydney/ Bankstown You should also watch for helicopter landing sites and uncontrolled aerodromes. These are also on the maps indicated by the purple H in a circle or may be smaller airfields in regional towns. If you become aware of manned aircraft operating to or from these locations, you must manoeuvre away from the aircraft and land as soon as safely possible.

10.01.2022 Just a quick update: Our iBev training is over in the west at Jurien Bay, WA this week, and in Orange, NSW mid May. In Brisbane, we are running our usual courses and 16 days back to back corporate training, with Tasmania lined up again. Melbourne, Cairns and Adelaide are also busy this month. Our first EVLOS ops is planned in Adelaide for end of May.... Our first custom built VTOL will be tested by early June, and our new custom rebuilt helicopter will be back in the air, fully GPS controlled mid June. Our Mavic 2 Dual thermal camera testing was impressive last month, and gets the thumbs up as a great close range industrial inspection drone. Our new 360 VR Media Room is approaching completion as well. for the recording of new training online modules.

10.01.2022 First day of the new financial year is always exciting and brings in a new era in drone operations in Australia. Apart from the new MOS, drone rego, etc, a new definition of class G airspace has emerged in the ACT. Seems you can monopolise airspace for your exclusive use.. So in the ACT, it would appear the airspace outside of Controlled Airspace is soon to be Class Google. https://www.abc.net.au//google-drones-could-have-/11188062

09.01.2022 The new ReOC process has also been formalised now. Renewals can be done online if no changes are required to the ReOC. The process for new ReOCs are: 1. Apply as a non-complex operation only for initial issue. 2. Complete and submit Form 101-09 with your complex operations / procedures, approvals, etc.... Suggest you submit all the updated / additional approvals / complex operations together at the time of renewal for better value and once off cost, rather than a minimum of $800 each time you change or add permissions / approvals using form 101-09. Going forward, we expect ReOC assessment fees to increase, approval timelines to increase and ReOC assessment resources to decrease. https://www.casa.gov.au/get-your-rpa-operators-certificate

09.01.2022 Phantom 4 Pro V2 back in production by mid October? And the new Skydio R1 seems to be getting closer to launch. https://dronedj.com//skydio-r1-drone-dji-mavic-2-pro-comp/

06.01.2022 Our night drone photography course has been launched and proved to be quite a hit. Nothing quite like using a drone camera to the full. https://www.wickedcopters.com.au//drone-night-photography-

06.01.2022 Another week on the east coast for drone ops and training. And we call it work.....!

06.01.2022 Well, that time of the year again. Here's to wishing all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Travel and fly safe during the silly season, and looking forward to 2020. 2019 was quite a year in drone terms, but 2020 looks to be far more exciting.... 05.01.2022 A trend we are seeing as we travel the country for ops and training is that more Chief Remote Pilots are being given dedicated CRP roles, as the seriousness of the new MOS starts to sink in. In addition, the demand and salary scale for these roles are increasing. So anyone with a sub 25kg RePL (MR or better) and AROC, a flair for the heavy and onerous paperwork and is a good drone pilot, the end of March next year cant come soon enough if you are looking for a CRP role. I...n the early drone days prior to Sep2016, CASA considered ReOC holders needed to be as compliant as Qantas or Virgin for example. Then they reduced control levels with unacceptable consequences, and are now bringing all drone ops back into the formalised regime. It sounds a bit harsh, but as soon as the playing field is levelled with no grey areas, drone ops will be a pleasure and the formalities well defined. See more

05.01.2022 With CASA now requiring commercial drone operators to broadcast every 15 minutes anywhere in Class G airspace, the Remote Pilot needs to hold an AROC to comply. Previously, the Remote Pilot was only required to broadcast within 3nm of a non-controlled airport. The RePL is perfect for the sub 2kg category, but to now fly under a ReOC, the AROC is needed. The requirement is to make a general broadcast before commencing any RPA operations in class G airspace, and then every 15 minutes or at anytime when a manned aircraft enters the RPA operations area.

03.01.2022 As mentioned before, Form 101-09 is the go to for any operation outside of non complex SOC operations. This now includes EVLOS and BVLOS. However CASA have confirmed that at this time it is not envisaged that an operator would have to submit an individual application for each EVLOS operation, other than those cases where the operation would require a further permission or approval (i.e. EVLOS above 400FT AGL). All the uses for this form can be found here: https://www.casa.gov.au/drones/reoc/additional-approvals

02.01.2022 New Legislation just introduced: Civil Aviation Safety Amendment (Remotely Piloted Aircraft and Model Aircraft Registration and Accreditation) Regulations (No. 2) 2019. https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2019L01364/Download Refers to the introduction of Rego, the associated penalties and Rego inplementation dates.... Our free Drone 101 app has been updated with this Instrument and Drone 101 is available on the App Store, Google Play and Amazon as a quick reference quide for all the legal docs.

01.01.2022 From Perth to Hamilton, Darwin to Hobart, and so many new places in between in the last few weeks for training. Looking forward to outback QLD, Brisbane, Adelaide and Murrurundi, NSW trips in a fully booked September for ops and training.
