21.01.2022 Why does lens choice matter? People spend lots of time carefully considering and choosing their frames when they pick out new glasses, but many of us don't know a lot about the lenses that will go into them. Here's a quick run down on why lens choice should be front of mind when organising your next pair. At Wicks Eyecare we think that your lens choice is just as important as giving you an accurate prescription. To get an excellent vision result it is important that your len...ses are clear and of the best quality. Think of it like a camera lens - there is no comparison between photos taken on an inexpensive disposable camera and photos taken by a professional with a high quality camera and purpose built equipment. We spend lots of time making sure our team stay informed about the latest updates in lens technology so we can provide our patients with the best solution for their particular visual needs. The best lenses for one patient will not always be suitable for the next, so we make sure to take a tailored, individual approach with every one of our patients. We work closely with our Australian lab to ensure every patient receives a quality high performing lens - even those patients with complex prescriptions and specific eyecare needs. Our lens range includes a large variety of different lens designs and additional treatments so that we can construct the perfect pair of lenses for your personal needs. Just a few examples of the many options we offer include: digital/computer lenses, Transitions lenses, premium quality personalised progressives, polarised lenses, and sports safety lenses.

21.01.2022 Childhood myopia is on the rise. Myopia is a common eye disorder which causes blurry distance vision. Myopia is progressive, and those who become myopic as young children are more likely to go on and develop high myopia. The majority of myopia progression occurs between ages 6 and 17. It is important to get your child's eyes tested early and keep up regular eye checks throughout childhood to prevent large myopic progressions. Family history, reduced outdoor time, lowered li...ght exposure time, and prolonged near tasks such as reading or playing games on digital devices are all risk factors for children developing myopia. If you have concerns about your child's vision or would like some more information book an appointment with one of our optometrists - http://www.wickseyecare.com.au/appointment *see childmyopia.com for more information

18.01.2022 We all love to get out in the sunshine and warm weather during summer but make sure you protect your eyes from harmful UV in the coming months. The best protection from conditions caused by UV exposure, such as pterygium, is to limit your exposure to UV rays and wear sunglasses while outside even on cloudy days. Remember the UV levels can be high outside of summer and even if it's a cloudy day. If you notice any changes in the appearance of your eyes book an appointment with your optometrist.
