20.01.2022 Noosa is emerging as a centre of excellence for advanced fire fighting innovations to combat bushfires like the ones that devastated many parts of Australia, in...cluding Peregian Beach, last summer. This week, Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud MP and I visited the Peregian Digital Hub where we were delighted to announce three grants to help support this important work. The Peregian Beach Digital Hub will receive $100,000 through the Liberal and Nationals Government’s Entrepreneurs’ Programme to deliver their world-first ‘FireTech Connect’ commercialisation programme to assist around 30 technology start-ups to develop solutions to prevent, detect, fight and recover from bushfire emergencies. A further $100,000 grant through the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grants program will help the start-ups put their technology on the world stage, with a FireTech International Conference planned for late 2021. This new funding comes in addition to $497,500 provided to Helitak Fire Fighting Equipment in February through the Accelerating Commercialisation program to expand its capacity, providing a cheap, safe, efficient, and easy way to enable the Super Puma helicopter to be used in aerial firefighting. The funding highlights the innovative work being done in Noosa and throughout the Wide Bay, and puts our region on the world map when it comes to technologies used to fight bushfires. The Australian Government is committed to backing clever projects like these that deliver economic opportunities while solving real-world problems.

14.01.2022 Aerial water bombing has helped protect properties and lives in the recent devastating bushfires, and Helitak Fire Fighting Equipment’s world-class products are... at the cutting edge of firefighting technology, helping to keep our communities safe. A proudly Noosa-based company, Helitak has developed an expandable underbelly water tank for use on Super Puma helicopters. Today I was pleased to join Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews MP as she announced the Federal Government is supporting Helitak’s important work with $497,500 in funding from the Entrepreneurs' Programme. This funding will support Helitak in developing technology to provide a cheap, safe, efficient, and easy way to convert the Super Puma helicopter model for use in aerial firefighting, helping to stop bushfires in their tracks. Congratulations to Helitak Operations Manager Paul Blundell and his team. It was also a great opportunity to drop into the Peregian Digital Hub with Minister Andrews and Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington to learn more about some of the Hub’s start-up businesses, Fireball International, the Earth Tech Incubator and the FireTech incubator. These start-ups are working on ground-breaking technologies to predict, prevent, fight or manage bushfire emergencies, and it was a fascinating look at the role technology can play in keeping us safe.

05.01.2022 The Rheinmetall NIOA munitions plant will be a game-changer for jobs and industry in Maryborough. This project will create 250 jobs during construction and 100... permanent full time jobs, and it's now one step closer after Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack MP and I opened the project office in Adelaide Street today. Work will start next year on the munitions plant itself, with $28.5 million in funding from the Morrison Government. See more

02.01.2022 Today is International Nurses Day, and this year more than ever before, I want to say thank you to our amazing nurses. Whether they are on the frontline of our... health system, helping Australia crush the curve of coronavirus, or one of our unsung heroes like the aged care, community care, palliative nurses, neonatal and paediatric, and psychiatric nurses, today is the day to acknowledge their hard work and dedication. Being a nurse is a huge responsibility, bringing comfort to the unwell and their loved ones, speaking up for the vulnerable and offering emotional and physical relief at the most stressful times of life. So to all nurses in Wide Bay and throughout the world, I say thank you.
