25.01.2022 Look closely and you will see that our farmer Jamie Anderson has taken advantage of the early summer rain and has seeded a whopping 220 hectares of various multi species cover crops! He is trying 40ha of buckwheat and brasil canola as a cover crop, but also as a punt for summer crop to harvest if it finds enough moisture. Buckwheat suppresses weeds and attracts beneficial insects and pollinators with its abundant blossoms. It also reportedly extracts soil phosphorus from soil... better than most grain cover crops. He has also seeded 90ha of brasil canola, sunflower, corn, millet, sunn hemp (not actually hemp but a legume) and lablab. For good measure he is also trialling 70ha of brasil canola, corn, safflower and sunflower, and 20ha of brasil canola, buckwheat, chickory, sunflower and teff! We look forward to seeing how long Jamie can keep their roots growing in the soil and providing food for his soil microbes. #oats #jamieanderson #stevekelly #covercrop #november

12.01.2022 WOA has identified carbon as our key measure of impact. Carbon is an excellent proxy measure for ecosystem health. WOA is committed to sequestering carbon through regenerative farming practices to tackle accelerating climate change. Our key practices to sequester carbon and reduce emissions are; scale up regenerative farming practices across Western Australia, increase access to plant-based food and drinks, eliminate food waste and reduce emissions in transport and refrigerat...ion. We have committed to become carbon neutral operationally by 2023. As a starting point, we have registered WOA Corporate and OatUp as carbon neutral with Climate Active PDS available here https://www.wideopenagriculture.com.au/impact-reports

09.01.2022 National Agricultural Day is a day dedicated to highlighting the extraordinary efforts of our Aussie farmers. This year has been a year unlike any other and we would like to take the opportunity to thank our very own farming partners who had our back during COVID-19, continuing to grow the food we all depend on. It is also a time to think about the long contributions from women in agriculture - contributions that have been overlooked for too long. Did you know, it wasn't unti...l 1994 that Australian women could legally claim to be farmers! Here are just some of our amazing farmers (along with a few Wide Open Agriculture staff thrown in for good measure). If you would like to thank our farmers please comment below and we will share with the whole team Photo by @valentinegirardotphotography for @the.humble.onion.perth

07.01.2022 Happy birthday to Climate Active who turns 1 today. Climate Active is an ongoing partnership between the Australian Govt and Australian businesses to drive voluntary climate action. We are proud to have Climate Active certification for WOA and our recently launched oat milk Oatup through our food brand Dirty Clean Food .
