17.01.2022 Hi All, Hope you are doing ok. The Robotics Society, in collaboration with Augment Expert Systems and Laika Coffee are kicking off a project to ‘augment’ the role of baristas through the use of cobotics. Imagine your favourite barista spending more time on both customer engagement and creating a great tasting coffee!... Cobotics (or collaborative-robotics) are robotic systems designed to work alongside people with the purpose of increasing productivity, improving product quality, and decreasing occupational risks. We will be using a Universal Robots UR3 robotic arm for the project. There will be potential opportunities such as research projects and practicum hours. On top of this, team members will develop crucial knowledge about cobotics and the field of robotics. A great example is the use of ROS (Robot Operating System) to solve this problem. ROS is an industry standard for robotics R&D because of it’s versatility. Not interested in programming? No worries. Although programming is vital for the project as a whole, there are areas such as industry standards research, systems engineering, mechanical design, safety systems design, instrumentation design, and project management to name a few. If any of the above interests you, please contact me at [email protected] PS: On Monday the 23rd from 12, an initial meeting is being held to kick-start the project into summer. The meeting room is 5.237.

13.01.2022 For all our post-grad students!

In this group, you will have access to various material and resources to help you improve your skills and be in touch with like-minded students. EA student members can join: here:https://www.facebook.com/groups/1089315838075073/ We will update you soon about the virtual events and workshops organised by WIEECU soon.
