23.01.2022 In Tasmania, we have a lot of talented filmmakers, at all career stages, who are disadvantaged by their geographical location..... So we are particularly keen to match mentors from right across the country with our mentees, to help to bridge that gap into the industry. With MentorHer a mentor has an opportunity to make a huge difference to a regional filmmaker’s career and we are very grateful to anyone who puts their hand up for this challenge. #tasfilm #ausfilm #auswomenfilm

23.01.2022 WIFT Australia recognises the role that national screen storytellers play in both reflecting truth and envisioning change. We do this by championing intersectional gender equality and advocating for screen women and non-binary people of all kinds. Whatever our skin colour, background, identity or where we live, we all deserve to see ourselves and the complexities of our beloved communities represented in Australian screen stories. Today we find ourselves in unprecedented time...Continue reading

23.01.2022 As you all know this week marked International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge. We are running a membership campaign and we challenge those of you who are members to reach out to five people you know in this industry that aren’t members, and share what WIFT AUSTRALIA means to you. If you are in a position to pay it forward, please consider making a donation to provide a membership to someone who is not in a position to pay for themselves but deserve...s to be a member. And if you aren’t a member, why the heck not? Let’s expand WIFT Australia so that the voices of all women and gender non-binary people can be seen and heard. Buy the change that you want to see!!!! https://wiftaustralia.org.au/membership

18.01.2022 WIFT Australia is launching VIRTUAL WIFT. This move is in direct response to the COVID -19 upheaval experienced by WIFT members and allies in the Australian screen industry. It features a range of mental health and wellbeing sessions, online resources and community catch up spaces. ...This will open with a suite of four sessions with well known Mental Health and Wellbeing Industry Coach Stephanie Power. Stephanie comes endorsed by Australian actor, Hugh Jackman, OAM. "Stephanie and I have known each other for almost 30 years. She is a leader in her field, providing the artistic community with the mental and emotional support that so many desperately need. In fact, we all need it!!!! It is an area that is often ignored, even when training and she is really advocating for artists in a practical and vital way!!'

12.01.2022 We stand in solidarity with all First Nations people, displaced people and creatives of colour. We honour the long history of resistance, resilience and healing. We stand with the families of George Floyd, Tanya Day, David Dungay Jr and all those killed by police brutality. We are committed to doing the anti-racism work required within ourselves and the screen industry to fight systemic racial injustice and to champion equality. A better future is possible. ... #blacklivesmatter #aboriginallivesmatter #sayhername For those wishing to donate and deepen their work towards justice and equality, WIFT has created a list of resources. This list is not exhaustive, but simply a place to begin or continue to educate ourselves so that we can have powerful conversations. https://wiftaustralia.org.au/wift-resource-blacklivesmatter

03.01.2022 I want my screen industry to disrupt, agitate, entertain, educate and be brave enough to completely restructure their practices for a rapidly restructuring world. I’m speaking out against this industry’s obsession with the optics of skin colour, rather than taking the time to understand the complex, nuanced ways in which race can inform an individual’s lived experience... says screenwriter Natesha Somasundaram. She and other BIPOC creatives working in screen in Australia share some of their concerns and insights.
