24.01.2022 Did you know? This odd looking little device is a Tom's Fisheye - or BRD (bycatch reduction device) One of four approved devices that will be used during Tiger... Prawn Season kicking off on the 1st August. These are used by the 52 trawl boats of the Northern Prawn Fishery to reduce the amount of bycatch caught in their nets to ensure that the NPF remains a sustainable fishery for generations to come. They are sewn into nets and work by creating an area of low pressure in the nets as they are pulled through the water, giving fish access to a gap in the net through which they can escape.
