24.01.2022 Old hand drills are perfect for little hands. Great for coordination, gross motor skills, risk taking & sense of satisfaction. They were a hit at nature playgroup today. As were these awesome books from @janegoodallau @rootsandshootsau. Such a valuable resource. Annoyingly the mosquitos were on a mission today. Apparently the eye lid is fair game with no repellant on #janegoodall #rootsandshoots #natureplaygroup #toolwork #toolsforsmallhands #mosquito #natureconnection #forestschool #woodcookies

18.01.2022 Run free Ali dog. My beautiful girl had her last sleep yesterday at nearly 15 years old. She held on for me to come and say goodbye but covid prevented me from flying to England this year so our goodbyes were said thousands of miles apart. She had the best life surrounded by people who loved her (i have a big family so she was never short of cuddles....and she loved sleeping down the bed with who ever would have her). She had beautiful walks in the English countryside and she lived her last years with Scooby, her doggy boyfriend who will now be comforting my parents as they grieve such a sad loss. Totally heartbroken but glad she died in the place she loved surrounded by the people she loved the most. Love you forever Ali dog

17.01.2022 Love this! Lets all do it.

17.01.2022 If you have a child off school today, please be mindful of how you act around them. They are like little sponges and pick up on your worry. And, make sure you spend some time in your garden. The microbes in soil have been proven to trigger the release of serotonin (the happy chemical) which in turn strengthens the immune system.

16.01.2022 Meet Ochre, our new member of the family. Safe to say we're all totally in love already. #kelpiepuppy

13.01.2022 I recently downloaded a free app for my daughter & very quickly deleted it. The app was simple; dress the boy, girl & monster. Only, the boy was dressed in super hero clothes and his job was to save the girls & animals & the girl was dressed in princess clothes & her job was to make herself look pretty. At the time, I was listening to a short audio book called On Violence by Natasha Stott Despoja who was discussing the sickening stats on violence against women in Australia. ...So what do we know? - 2 women are killed each week by their partner. - 1/3 Australian women over 15 has experienced physical violence. - Aboriginal women are 11 x more likely to die from family violence than other women. We need to change the narrative for our children. We know that stereotypes about gender impact a childs sense of self from a young age. We also know that: - Women in Victoria earn 87.6 cents to every $ earned by men. - Although more women than men complete tertiary education, their graduate salaries are lower. - 1/2 mothers experience some form of pregnancy discrimination in the workplace. - Women do nearly 2x as much unpaid work as men. - Women retire with 1/2 the amount of Superanuation earnings as men which affects their financial security, health & wellbeing & as a result, more older women are at risk of homelessness than men. - 4x more men than women die by suicide. It's time we balanced the genders for everyone's sake & we can start by removing stereotypes for our children. Boys are sensitive & strong. Girls are sensitive & strong. See more

08.01.2022 Just processing the 'easing' of restrictions. Looks like we wont be able to open again until November & with a limit of 10, but even that's subject to change. Anyone else feeling totally deflated?

07.01.2022 Do you allow your children to take healthy risks? Us humans seem to thrive on a certain amount of fear. Allowing our children the space to manage their own risks enables them to learn the strengths and limitations of their own bodies. It also means the won't seek it elsewhere! Other benefits include, learning through experience, engaging with the natural environment, a sense of satisfaction, promoting independence & because it's fun! Here are some things you can say to you...r child to promote healthy risk taking: - Does it feel safe? - What's your plan? - Shall we check this tree together to see if it's stable enough to climb? - Stay focussed on what you're doing. - Take your time. - What's your next move? #riskyplay #healthyrisktaking #climballthetrees #forestschool

01.01.2022 Forest School today involed nature hunts & balancing & muddy puddles & tool work & crafts (check out the awesome elder bead necklace which began the session as a lonely little elder stick), stuffed bananas cooked on the fire & hot chocolate. Building immunity the fun way #playoutside #forestschool #naturetherapy #immunityboost
