25.01.2022 We would have so loved to have started the new year with celebration and joy. Instead we must bravely step into a new decade and an unknown future. We send our heartfelt sympathies to everyone who has been impacted by the bushfires. We know that staff and families in our community have been affected and hope that everyone stays safe. May 2020 bring you peace, joy and happiness and a deep sense of gratitude and feeling of safety.

Well done everyone, from students, who sang with gusto and played enthusiastically to Strings and Class Teachers! And to all the families who came and celebrated with us! 21.01.2022 Gift your child a love for learning! We still welcome enrolment enquiries for kindergarten, prep and classes 1 to 6 for 2020. Waldorf/Steiner education has much to offer to the 21st Century child. Not only is our curriculum strong in art, craft and music that inspires creativity, children learn science, technology, engineering and maths through close observation of nature, bold questioning, and hands-on exploring. For enquiries and school tour bookings, please call us on 03 5152 1966 or send us an email [email protected].

20.01.2022 So thrilled to be part of the Next Generation exhibition, a showcase of works by East Gippsland students. Each school was invited to present a handful of pieces which made it really hard to choose. We thought we show off the canopic jars our class five six students have made as part of their Ancient Histories main lesson on Egypt. The exhibition is still running until 23 Nov at East Gippsland Art Gallery in Bairnsdale. Dont miss it! Btw do you know the jars purpose? #nextgeneration #eastgippslandartgallery

20.01.2022 Class one and two have loved bringing the Steiner curriculum to life each week this term immersing themselves in stories and cultures from around the world. We heard the story of how the cempasuchil flower (the marigold) became symbolic of departed loved ones on the Mexican Day Of The Dead. We also learnt that chocolate was a gift from the gods to the mayans, and we all decided we were very thankful for that gift!!

18.01.2022 Gardening and Nature Studies are an important part of the curriculum at Wild Cherry School. Children have worked with their teachers to create productive wicking beds, amazing frog bogs and beautiful flower gardens. During home learning, Wild Cherry children are encouraged to continue engaging with the natural world around them, to get gardening and to observe as the season shifts from Winter to Early Spring. It is a wonderful time of year. A big thank you to Cleo from Class 2 for sharing this photo of the beautiful daffodil she has grown at home. Well done Cleo!

16.01.2022 Lovely smells have been drifting out of the Wild Cherry School kitchen lately. Class 3 have been busily baking loaves of sourdough and each Monday they cook morning tea for the whole school! We have enjoyed muffins and gingerbread, I wonder what next weeks treat will be?

15.01.2022 We whittle! Students from Classes 3, 4, 5 and 6 at Wild Cherry School have been busy working on their whittling skills. Whittling is the art of carving shapes in wood with a knife. There are many benefits associated with teaching children to whittle- it requires deep concentration whilst being stimulating and challenging, they learn knife skills, learn to assess and manage risk in keeping themselves and others safe, learn qualities of different wood types deepening their connection to the natural environment, it fosters a sense of independence and it helps with co-ordination. During this quiet, meditative practice students are busily creating beautiful items such as crochet hooks and wooden gnomes.

14.01.2022 Cooking is a valued part of the curriculum at Wild Cherry School. In the school kitchen, the children are learning maths, literacy and many other skills in an artistic way. The joy of Spring was the inspiration for these wonderful, tasty creations.

14.01.2022 Gift your child a love for learning. At Wild Cherry Kinder and School our purpose is to nurture the whole child through a holistic education that encourages curiosity, creativity, bold questioning, positive social consciousness, and a connection to the natural world. Our teachers instill a love for learning with a play-based early years focus followed by a rich and integrated program that balances academic (the three Rs: reading, writing, arithmetic), artistic, and practical... experiences. Music, handcraft, sport, eurythmy, and French complement the academic curriculum. Emphasis is on creating a safe, nurturing, and sensory-rich learning environment. The curriculum in a Waldorf/Steiner school reflects the developmental understanding of the whole child, on physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. At each stage of development, the curriculum consciously engages specific aspects of the growing child. It has proved to be a relevant and contemporary curriculum for over 100 years, largely because it appeals strongly to children. It is a fully integrated curriculum which engages the child’s imagination and strengthens her or his will through learning, which is carefully balanced between physically active, artistic and academic elements.

14.01.2022 Students in Class 4/5/6 have been busy creating their own compass rose as part of their Australian History main lesson. Well done, they are looking great!

12.01.2022 Even if you are not directly affected, lots of us are struggling with the effects of the bushfires. 06.01.2022 Festivals are a cherished part of Steiner Education and this includes celebrating the time of the Winter solstice when the days are shortest and the nights are long and cold. It is a time of reflection and reminder of the light to come. We always look forward to celebrating Midwinter with Wild Cherry families and sharing our lantern walk, concert and a community meal. So disappointing then that for the second year in a row we had to change our plans. But this time, we brought the festival forward so we could still celebrate with the children. Imagine darkened windows in our music room, a flowering wattle spiral, lots of tealights and lanterns, gentle strings music, and gentle singing voices. A big special thank you to our all our teachers who made it happen. It was truly magical.

05.01.2022 We thought we share some useful information for parents and carers looking after children affected by bushfires: https://www.psychology.org.au//Guidelines-children-after-b

02.01.2022 Cooking bread is a treasured part of the rhythm at Wild Cherry Playgroup. Each session the children carefully create wonderful bread shapes, then delight in eating them for morning tea fresh from the oven. Playgroup leaders, Clare and Karen have kindly shared their bread recipe (in comments below). We hope you have as much fun making it as the children at playgroup do! If you are interested in attending Wild Cherry Playgroup, please get in touch.
