22.01.2022 HALLOWEEN 2020 DOOR KNOCKING NOT PERMITTED THIS YEAR It's Halloween on Saturday and unfortunately the pandemic means that Halloween can’t be celebrated the normal way in 2020. Door knocking is not permitted this year, so many people will either be celebrating Halloween at Home (and @PlantedInTheWoods have some great ideas for doing that) or heading out for a spooky dress up dinner to the @commercialhotelmansfield or @delatitehotel instead. ... Keep safe. If you are dressing up to walk around your neighbourhood to do an I Spy scavenger hunt looking for pumpkins, ghosts, and spider webs , or off to a restaurant, remember that you will need to wear your 'normal' mask because costume masks don’t provide any protection. If you are looking for all the Halloween Rules you can find them here https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/halloween-update-covid-19-octob Photo credit @neplechanaplechu

18.01.2022 Standing on the deck and the sun is setting on a stunning Spring day. Melbourne and Regional Victoria are united again and Victoria records it's tenth day of zero new cases. So much to celebrate and be grateful for. Marta Wakeling Photography

17.01.2022 Remembrance Day. On the 11th day, of the 11th month, at the 11th hour ... in 1918 the guns fell silent and World War One ended. It was supposed to be the War to end all Wars For all those who gave the greatest sacrifice. We will remember them. Lest we forget. #MerrijigWarMemorial #MerrijigWarAndServicMemorialPark

16.01.2022 Babies. Graham's girls have had two babies. This cute curious, brave one with the small head and the long wobbly legs happy to parade along the fence line and race ahead. And the quiet, shy one, hiding in the long grass, keeping out of sight and keeping very close to mum. Both gorgeous.

13.01.2022 It's a beautiful sunny Sunday in Merrijig and the kangaroos and cockatoo are just outside our bedroom this morning indicating it's time to get out of bed and get going. We will be back in the garden today. Yesterday's weeding project morphed into a major garden bed overhaul. What were we thinking

12.01.2022 Good morning. The boys are back for breakfast. Enjoy your weekend. ... Marta Wakeling Photography

11.01.2022 A garden champagne at sunset while enjoying the pink glow over the mountains and the heady scents of lavenders and salvias in the garden beds. Feeling so grateful that we live in the clever country where people understand science, value mateship and teamwork and prioritize life over profits. Bursting with happiness as Victoria records seven days of NO new cases. Such an amazing outcome.... Life has returned to the city streets and to our small country towns. Horse float convoys, caravan convoys, four wheel drive convoys and families already enjoying the high country. So busy in #Mansfield today. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

07.01.2022 The sun is about to set on another beautiful day in Merrijig. These beautifully green plants will be covered in pink bells in the next day or two. I absolutely love the pretty pink flowers. Taken as small, self seeded, plants from another part of the garden these two plants are absolute superstars here in this sunny, exposed position they get the occasional frosts and are not watered by us and they thrive. I really love these amazing plants. ... Anyone know what they are called? Marta Wakeling Photography

06.01.2022 Big skies, dazzling sunsets and wide-open spaces. Fresh country air, cool mountain ranges, flowing rivers with lush banks to lie on. Forests, with tall gums reaching towards the sky, filled with birdsong and butterflies and the beautiful smells of the Australian bush. With jewels like that on our doorstep it's little wonder that many Melbournians are heading to Mansfield and Mt Buller to enjoy their first post lockdown weekend in Regional Victoria. A heads up if you are head...ing our way this weekend. Limited seating in restaurants means that you really should book ahead. Don't be disappointed if you can't get a seat, most of our restaurants have a take away option for their dine in menu. Hop online, check out their offerings and order ahead so you don't have to wait and you're not disappointed. Don't forget to Pre order your groceries online at @markssupaiga or @foodworksmansfield so you have more time for weekend fun. Last weekend saw a steady stream of horse floats and caravans and four-wheel drives so regional victorians are already here and with our metropolitan visitors arriving this weekend it's going to be very, very busy. Bring along your camp chairs or picnic rug and have them ready in the boot so you can enjoy the wide-open spaces and delicious foods and wine and local brews in our great outdoors. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for bringing your Christmas shopping list along and supporting our local stores and filling your baskets with regional produce for your Christmas hampers. Your support means the world to our regional businesses. Wishing you a wonderful weekend

02.01.2022 The cooling breeze has arrived and we've flung open the window and doors to watch the sunset and listen to the birds singing their night songs as they head home to roost. The quiet has arrived; only broken by the occasional bonk of the frogs at the dam. It's a beautiful late Spring night in Merrijig.... Hope you are keeping safe and well where ever you are. 02.01.2022 Summer is slowly taking hold. The colours are changing and the deep emerald greens are fading, gone in some places already. Gone where the Winter Grass has died away. Gone where Cape Weed has been sprayed. Gone where paddocks have been slashed and the feed put away for the days ahead. Gone on the ridges, on the high ground where Summer's fingerlings are taking hold, gently now, but summers grip will strengthen in the days ahead and the valley will all turn from Spring green to Summer golds.

02.01.2022 So how was your Saturday? The kangaroos send you their regards.

01.01.2022 The CFA pager alarm sounded yesterday afternoon and it's screeching sirens had me checking all the windows for signs of smoke on the horizon. There it was, 32 kilometers away on Paps Road in Maindample, plumes of smoke reaching for the sky billowing out the side of The Paps. A check of the Vic Emergency app showed that it was a small bushfire with 7 vehicles responding. Thankful it was contained reasonably quickly. Summer is coming. The hot days are here, drying the grass... and changing the colours of our landscape from green to gold. The CFA have declared that the Fire Danger Period starts at 1am on the 7th December in our region. So if you are travelling to the High Country make sure you have: (1) a phone service that uses the Telstra network (2) you have installed the Vic Emergency app on your phone (3) you have enabled "Location" on your phone (4) you check the daily Fire Rating ...before ... lighting any camp fires or outdoor BBQs. BIG fines apply, and after last summer, the old "I didn't know it was a total fire ban day' is not going to cut it as an excuse. Have a safe trip and a wonderful Summer holiday.
