11.01.2022 Carpobrotus glaucescens Pigface This wonderful native plant works really well as a ground cover in any native or coastal garden, plus has many other uses outside the garden. The whole plant is edible from the leaves to the flower. Once the flower dies the stem will go bright red and contains a fruit within which I could best describe is a mix between a Strawberry and a Kiwi fruit with a pinch of salt Goes great with cheese and crackers with a beer or wine. I like to have m...ine with muesli, yogurt, banana and a splash of coconut milk Also goes really well just with vanilla ice cream It can also be used as a substitute for Aloe vera on burns, stings and insect bites using the juice from the stems and leaves. One of my favourite ground covers. Must have well drained or sandy soil for this little beauty to thrive. Get out and enjoy your gardening in these tough times.
