22.01.2022 Something a little different tonight.. I know I don’t usually share too much of my personal family life in here, but something pretty amazing happened over the weekend & , given I feel like so many of you are more than just Insta friends I hope you don’t mind me sharing our very proud parent moment. (Pop on my stories for the visuals) ... As you may already know we are the parents of 2 free birds of travelling children with Sam , our youngest at 18, competing in the sport of wakeboarding since 2011. We have crossed the globe over the years together as a family to support him & what an experience it’s been. 2019 he turned pro at 16, won rookie of the year, 2020 hit the brakes, but on the weekend he rode the rides of his life to WIN his first pro tour event & the first of the USA season. Oh my friends, I can’t even begin to tell you the excitement & of course pride after all the years of training & dedication. It truly is an unexpected & very sweet victory for him. People always say ‘oh you must be so proud’ & of course we are but our proud swelling hearts are more for the beautiful and humble human he has become as well as his talent. 17.01.2022 Let’s talk about the price of flowers! & let me first ask my fellow retail florists out there ARE YOU OK?... A recent trip to the markets had me really feeling for you, I mean some of these prices are ridiculous!! What makes me sad is to know that some of you are just sucking it up, carrying on business as usual trying so hard to make the $$ work, not disappoint your customers, live in hope that things will come back down to normal. I hate to say I don’t think they will. It’s a simple case of supply & demand. So tonight, sharing some tips, maybe a change of mindset around this situation. Can you be more ACTIVE in your business rather than REACTIVE? What I mean by that is could you shift from always asking your customer ‘what they’d like’ to ‘this is what we create’ Thinking more like your fav cafe, the menu changes ( sometimes seasonally) just as the produce does, they have a menu & that’s that! Could you offer a menu of designs, a mix of price points of course but more of a specific range that reflect the blooms of the season. Allowing you to take advantage of lower priced options, recipe write to be sure of your profit margin & simplify your offerings? Communicate this change with your customers so they realise this is in their best interests & a way for you to be able to give them the best value. You never know. I think they will love the fact that each new season you release a new menu of designs & styles. This will allow YOU to remain fresh too, excited to be releasing the new season range like a fashion designer. We are creative people right?so let’s look at our business in a creative way too. Of course you can buy direct from the grower, use foraged, dried materials, grow your own foliage’s ( I’ve been doing that for years) But This is a unique time for our industry & one we need to be able to adapt so we can flourish. Not a blemish, thank you @craigioscott I don’t think I’ve seen perfection in a white Waratah like this ever. My gorgeous bride Courtney last Saturday appreciated them too, so much so , I’m delighted to say there were tears ( of joy)

13.01.2022 Your favourite Easing into 2 1 with a slow conscious beginning it seems ( when it’s day 2 already) ... Giving myself space & a little more time to r e s t b r e a t h e r e s e t before I open up the planning & creating compartment i.e the busy mind part Because believe me there’s some pretty exciting ideas that I jammed in there a couple of months ago & they need a rested calm self to bring to life. 13.01.2022 And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud way more painful than the risk it took to blossom 2 years ago, this was me & as scary as change is there comes a day when you just know ‘That if you change nothing , nothing changes’ & giving yourself the chance to blossom is one pretty special gift. ... so as we find ourselves in reflection, of this year more than ever before, I know one thing for sure, we are resilient, change isn’t quite so scary. & if this little pillow quote resonates please know you’re not alone & if it all seems a little foggy just now don’t worry I’ve been working on something that will give you clarity for 21 ( more on that soon) But for now what could be more perfect than a full moon for a new year & I wish you all the opportunities to blossom. 06.01.2022 l a r k s p u r : new opportunity, anything is possible, new voice, possibility. Well I knew I was growing these for a reason other than drying. I don’t know about you but it’s around this time of year, as things amp up, that I start reflecting. ... What do I want more of what do I want less of.... I know this might seem a bit early but after this year of uncertainty ( which isn’t always a bad thing btw, silver linings do exist) there’s not a whole lot of clarity around 2021. I’m a chick who likes to see a mossy pathway in the forest , I mean I don’t mind meandering down a few other trails here & there but a little direction is good for me. So I’m excited & grateful to be joining a special friend for a few days of beach time brainstorming - starting now! Sharing with a trusted friend, being immersed in sea & salt will be the perfect ingredients for true clarity I’m thinking. & you know this will also mean I’m creating some wonderful things for you. 05.01.2022 CONDITIONING & CARING What does this even mean? Well understanding that fresh botanicals are a living / breathing thing & how learning their likes, dislikes and correct techniques can extend their vase life and actually be the difference between 2 days or 2 weeks in some flowers....... That’s game changing!! for a florist that can be the make or break of your reputation and business. for floral creatives that can mean a whole lot of saved $$ & heart ache. So here’s me at the ‘potting bench ‘ of the studio from one of my latest tutorials CONDITIONING & CARING I Seriously have sooo much to share on the topic, years of experiments, trial ( & error) & myth busting those old wives tails on putting all sorts of things in the water. If you made it this far here’s a couple more for you. DON’T - place your vase of flowers next to your fruit bowl - fruit exudes ethylene, just as you can ripen an avocado in a day if you put it near your bananas the same happens with your flowers. DON’T - put your vase of flowers next to your TV. Not sure why but they just don’t last as well next to technology ( could that a be a little hint for us?
