24.01.2022 { Just sit } This little nest is where Nicole and I sit each morning in meditation at 5am. We’ve been doing this together solidly since we met, and the more we sit like this each morning, the more we’ve come to treasure our practice together. ... There’s nothing like community to create momentum in practice and keep us on track, and for us, community has started with each other. This morning, I did some mett (loving kindness) meditation. As I sat, feeling into the meaning of my mantra, I felt a familiar glow in the heart-space; the feeling of love. My mind became open and clear, and the body was lit from within. I rose from meditation and smiled, and as Nicole and I embraced, I was deeply grateful for our precious time together. We made herbal tea, and drank it as shafts of yellow light sluiced our living room, washing over the space. Nicole spoke to the importance of sitting no matter what. If we feel energetic and bright, we sit. If we feel tired and lazy, we sit. If we feel happy, we sit. If we’re upset, we also sit. If life is full of roses, we sit. In despair, also sit. Just sit. We keep sitting, and over time, the realisation dawns on us that we are simply, sitting. Sitting with what comes and goes in our life, in our heart and mind. Sitting with it all, bearing witness. If we show up to the practice, slowly slowly, truth trickles in, and we come to know. The path unfolds like this. Mett, and Peace. #thebhavanacommunity facebook.com/thebhavanacommunity

24.01.2022 Here's a beautiful article by B. Alan Wallace on developing meditation, and the bliss possible from practice. Enjoy :) "...this stable, vivid awarenesslike a telescope launched into orbit beyond the distortions of the earth’s atmosphereprovides a platform for exploring the deep space of the mind."

23.01.2022 For me, the thoughts that interrupt my morning meditation are "planning" thoughts...so I like to make notes of what's coming up (before I sit preferably ), others journal thoughts, memories, whatever arises. We have some things coming up (as well as usual weekly classes)...events to come in the next days & weeks. X

23.01.2022 The very best part of not having a "studio" is that i get to collaborate with so many beautiful people, teach and co teach in different spaces in our community, and share with different groups of people. Totally thrilled to collaborate with two of my loved friends in the space they have created...a space where collaboration is at the heart of their vision. September 3 together we share "Heart Attunement"...a practice of movement stillness sound vibration and nourishment...a journey inwards to feel listen and know more. Self knowledge is self love and self love is the source of all love. We return to the source, our spiritual heart, with practices that move us toward love.

23.01.2022 Prenatal Yoga classes still on hold while I move house...but have a pretty sweet space to start them up again in 2 weeks in Coolum. X

23.01.2022 { Oh What Blisssssssss } Ever blissed out? It’s easy to get all serious with our practice. We try too hard. We get all GI-Joe, and we want to kick-ass and get an ‘A’ in every session. Doing this turns what could be a path of bliss into hard-work, and suffering. ...Continue reading

22.01.2022 The eclipse this last evening...early morn...this union of moon and sun, provided the setting for a most awesome flow of writings and prep for this weeks Yurt sesh Heart Attunement ...a practice allllll about attuning to the spiritual heart, Hridaya, our essence, that space where we experience the union of polarities...moon and sun...male and female. Attuning to inner peace, infinite energy, intelligence and guidance. This practice will also be shared with Ben and Sarah o...f New Earth Cafe on Sunday 3rd as part of a half day offering of goodness. See event link below... https://www.facebook.com/events/1134222723344843/?ti=icl

22.01.2022 Hello ...tomorrow's half day retreat, Heart Attunement is now fully booked. So much gratitude for all the beautiful people coming to join us. We can't wait!!

21.01.2022 As I'm approaching the end of my yoga teacher training, I'm asking myself a lot of questions - What does yoga mean to me? I found this article from Return Yoga, a beautiful, raw, honest reflection on yoga and what it may really mean. Full article in link. Enjoy :) Here's an excerpt - "There is so much more than yoga practice and teaching. There are relationships. Study. Work. Far from being a failure, I see this as proof: unless yoga resolves to a changed life, somehow i...nforms our most intimate choices and important questions, it doesn’t mean anything at all. It’s just a hobby. I watch this happening, over and over again: generally yoga is a phase and is dropped the moment shit gets real or a new shiny object comes into view; but occasionally, yoga seems to be the common but largely silent thread behind beautiful expressions of the human heart. Often this is exactly what happens when people stop coming to yoga after a year or three: they’ve changed, for the good, and the yoga served it’s purpose. You see a glint of it, behind the story. But the story isn’t yoga: it’s about cancer or dancing or school children or oceans. It involves justice, and the meaning of a human life, singly and by the millions. It’s the detritus of history, really, and the vague outlines of hope. The best stories are about death, or love. They are prayer songs or glittering star poems in the hot night, plain speak about the terrible difficulty of the beautiful world." See more

21.01.2022 {The Role of Yoga in Healing Trauma } Just finished an amazing book called 'The Body Keeps The Score' by Bessel Van Der Kolk - all about healing trauma. What Nicole and I are coming to realise in our journey is that trauma is real, and that yoga is a very effective tool for healing trauma through the body. Lately in the yoga/meditation world there's a growing interest in holding space in ways that are trauma sensitive, and that's a good thing :) Here's a little article on the topic...

20.01.2022 { Agni - The Divine Within } I remember as a child being mesmerised by fire. My father used to take our family camping in the Pilbara national park in Western Australia. When the psychedelic desert dusk had faded into night, in the narrowing crevices of enormous gorges, we would set up camp, and light fire. In the cool of the evening, flames would frame our little family from within, casting new light upon our faces, breathing us to life. Under an endless canopy of starlight...Continue reading

20.01.2022 { Dependent Origination - Paicca Samuppda } A friend of mine, the wonderful Yogi Zoh, is leading a Dhamma Group on Thursday 25/05 called ‘Seeds of Joy - Paths to Freedom’ (check it out!) and including the topic of ‘dependant origination’ from the Buddha’s teachings, so I thought I’d write a little about that. What is dependent origination? ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 My friend Anusha just posted this little 6 minute video from Viceland and I invite you to watch it. It's about the experience of a Buddhist monk in Australia. For those of you who may not know, I was ordained as a monk for a few years before relocating to the Sunshine Coast. It was a wonderful experience, and one that shaped me in important ways. I'm still processing my time spent as a monastic, and how to best share that with the world - this little video may give you a little snapshot into what the whole 'monk thing' is about :)

19.01.2022 Is yoga more than the mere physical practice of sana? How can it truly transform our lives? The answer is in kula, or community... "If there is a guru in this yoga it is the community or kula of others on whom we rely to see both ourselves and our life’s possibilities... These rich gifts of relationship and connection, and our deep implication with others...offer us a vision of our own vulnerability and promise." We have an event coming up exploring kula (spiritual community...) this weekend at the beautiful Coolah place. Check events page for more details. facebook.com/thebhavanacommunity See more

15.01.2022 Meditation as life path Meditation as truth "No kind-yet-fierce master pressed a spiritual gun to my head and yelled Stop being a dick!... I chose to look deeper and accept what I found, no matter how much I hated it or how hard it was to let go, so I could experience the world and myself honestly....Life is affecting me more intimately since meditation has softened me; emotions are deeper and more poignant, but I’m more skilled at accepting them."

06.01.2022 Would you like to know more about chakras? Nicole has this amazing class out at Bloomin' Lotus Yoga in Currimundi tomorrow - Wednesday night 19/04 from 6pm. It's part 2 of our 'Immersion Series' with Lindy Story-Smith. We've been discussing chakra practice as it occurs in Tantric texts, and I'm so pumped to have her share her practice. It's an approach to elements through chakra work that is grounded in tradition, and it'll be exciting to be a part of this!! ... If you'd like to learn a grounded and accessible approach to chakras, and a little about the history of chakras and element work and how we can integrate this practice into our lives, come along!
