11.01.2022 Fat hen AKA Goosefoot - Chenopodium album grows all over the world. This plant is now naturalised in Australia. You will find it in rich soils, particularly high nitrogen locations ( composting pile of green matter, around barns and animal pens, in healthy and well fed gardens, etc) This is a food plant since antiquity. Much loved through out Europe and continental Asia, the leaves used as a green and the seeds a great source of nutrition. . In India the plant is popularly ...called Bathua and found abundantly in the winter season. The leaves and young shoots are used in soups, curries and paratha-stuffed bread, especially popular in Punjab. The seeds are used in phambra or laafi, a gruel-type dish in Himachal Pradesh, and in mildly alcoholic fermented beverages such as soora and ghanti. #wildfood #chenopodium #chenopodiumalbum #food #fathen #india #stories #weed #ediblecities #eatweeds #nutritious #old #knowledge #foraging #sydney See more

04.01.2022 Hello everyone. I just wrote an article on the common mallow weed and wanted to share it to you all. Please let me know if you think something is amiss or I have something wrong. It is meant to be light-hearted and for the generic audience. Nothing new here for the nerds in this group, but hopefully a good starting point for people who do not know what they have in their garden. Mallow is good, it is not a weed. It is food and an ancient one of that. Read on> https://www.die...gobonetto.com//on-mellow-mallow-the-edible- #wildfood #mallow #malva #wildmedicine See more

03.01.2022 Supplying Archie Rose Distillery with some wild harvested produce: peppercorns. Looking forward to some magic resolution from one of the most awarded distillery of Australia. These Peppercorn tree berries were harvested from some old trees in the Capertee Valley, NSW. The trees are quite common around properties in regional NSW as were planted for their shade and handsome features. The berries are traditionally used as pepper substitute.... This is one example of the produce sourced regionally by Wildfood Store, a social enterprise operating in Greater Sydney and country NSW. Wildfood Store is a market place for wild harvested edible plants, giving employment to regional foragers and creating an economic avenue for farmers and youth. See www.wildfood.store for more details. Wildfood Store champion locally available wild food sources by providing training and logistic support. It aims to connect local harvesters with the top restaurants and bars of the city, bringing their stories and flavours to the dishes and drinks of Sydney.
