25.01.2022 I have some training leads available. Seven meters long, made out of thick vinyl, I do all my early training on one of these. They dont get tangled easily, great for young dogs. $30.00 plus $10.00 postage.
24.01.2022 Recall starts at home, the big secret of dog training is "dont ask a dog to do something unless you are confident it can do it" so think about building up recall before you go to the dog park or beach.
24.01.2022 Lockdown training gear, or any time training gear, treats bag, Acme 10.5 whistle, extra long lead, long lead, ball and ball thrower.

21.01.2022 The Wolf Within by Professor Bryan Sykes a demanding and in depth read about the origins of your dog, this book goes deep. Was talking to a trainer the other day he said there is 70 percent wolf in my border collie.

19.01.2022 Counter Conditioning, I have spoken to a couple of clients about this in relation to anxious dogs recently this video may explain what this process is better than words.
18.01.2022 Recall not working, talking to someone on the weekend who said it takes sometimes 2 hours to catch the dog, recall is not working, I said go back to the start which means the backyard with a long lead and treats, then onto the driveway and out onto the street getting each part proofed up with distractions etc. that person said that sounds like a lot of work and repetitions, I said it is, its dog training. Dont ask a dog to do something you dont think it can do, train up to it.

17.01.2022 I recommend to clients to visit a sheep dog trial preferably the 3 sheep trials and watch how the dog handlers handle their dogs outside the paddock. A lot of the handlers have multiple dogs and they let them go for exercise and just to have a run, they will have multiple dogs on the loose at any one time but everything is under control (most of the time) the dogs move around dont run off, are not worrying other people, the dogs come back when asked, not yelled at a hundred times, there is an obvious partnership happening between the handler and the dog(s). That partnership between dog and handler is something that a lot of dogs owners should hope to achieve, may be talk to some of these stock dog owners.
15.01.2022 It happened, off the leash, multiple authors, edited by Paddy OReilly. A great read, may be someone in there you nosse? I know there is.
15.01.2022 Making it easier to take photos one handed the other is throwing the ball to the dog, I made a hand grip for my camera, its a bit rough but its makes it so much easier.
13.01.2022 Check this video by Rob Peladeau it covers a lot of how dogs learn. https://youtu.be/KrKEZIxFB64

05.01.2022 Scent and the Scenting Dog by William Syrotuck, not really a dog training book but more about how scent is created, how a dog trails a scent etc. a quick handy read for those who want to know more about dogs and scenting.
05.01.2022 There is a theory, you are walking along, a river or creek bank, a paddock, bushland, your are looking down and you see a rock. Now most us see rocks all the time but on this occasion you think I better have a look at this one. You give is a bit of a kick and get it out of the ground, you have it in your hand and unbelievably it is a stone axe you know one of the things you see in National Geographic etc. ... Now heres where it gets tricky the theory goes like this that it not just any one who will find the stone axe, you have to be looking down taking notice and heres where it gets real tricky the theory says that there is a force on the stone axe that that it will be there when you the person who finds it passes. Some might say you have been chosen to find the stone axe by an unknown force. Is it an out there theory who knows. Can it be related to dog training and education of the human in how to relate to dogs, I think so. I suppose you you could say I found a fifty dollar note today on the ground when a hundred other people missed it, you were looking, relaxed and taking in what was around you. Obviously all artifacts have to be treated with respect and if you are unsure how to do so you should contact a local indigenous authority for assistance.
05.01.2022 The Australian Working Stock Dog Magazine Issue 9 has a couple of great articles by Tully Williams and Scott Amon while primarily about stock dogs their training techniques are of the greatest value to any one who owns a companion dog. These people know what they are doing and have their dogs trained so that they can rely on them, get a copy and read the articles a lot, cut them out and glue them to your mirror.
05.01.2022 If you see someone with a well trained dog talk to them.
