23.01.2022 Are you keen to learn about Predator Proof Enclosures? These are simple structures that can help to protect small mammals from predation after bushfires. They are used as safe places to move about in the landscape to protect the small animals as they search for food. Are you able to join us? This Thursday 30th Jan at Highfield Farm and Woodland ( Mt Adrah). Highfield is a farm and a conservation area and was burnt during the Dunn's Rd Fires. Wildlife Vet and CSU staff member... will be helping us construct these shelters and be on hand to chat with you about the amazing things you are doing at your sites. Let me know if you can join us.

22.01.2022 This great little video offers so much hope for us all and gives some excellent tips on what to do. A friend who sent this to me said, "Don't worry, nature always wins, don't be sad". That's my message to you too other beautiful fire affected people.

17.01.2022 Some very good ideas here for larger watering facilities that are still safe and useable for a variety of wildlife. Sticks, wire.

16.01.2022 Info on importance of moving water stations to avoid predation.

12.01.2022 Ok landholders. THIS AMAZING CONVOY is arriving Saturday morning at the Gilmore Hall at about 11.30 am. You can come and pick up these items to assist the wildlife in your bush or adjacent bush areas. Andrew Peters if you have any particular advice about placement / distribution or anything else it would be appreciated. Landholders, their is also some really good and experienced information on DUNN'S ROAD FIRE WILDLIFE ASSISTANCE GROUP re moving water stations, fruit kebabs for possums etc.

12.01.2022 Looking for landholders in Dunn's Rd fire area with bush on adjacent to their property. Who are willing to assist in the recovery of wildlife by: * Installing water stations * Installing food stations * Installing predator proof enclosures... Wildlife that survive the initial fire attack may be thirsty and hungry. They need our help to survive. We can assist you with: * Expert and experienced advice * The equipment you need (water and predator proof enclosures) * Food appropriate for wildlife * Mutual support The outcomes of the project to support wildlife might also become part of a CSU study into the effectiveness of our actions. PLEASE , if you have bush on or adjacent to your property, are in a fire affected area and are willing to install and maintain these stations get in touch!

06.01.2022 Expert recommendations for feeding and providing water to wildlife Additional resources regarding standardised recommendations for feeding and providing water for wildlife can be found at NPWS (https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au//helping-wildlife-in-em) and Wildlife Health Australia (https://www.wildlifehealthaustralia.com.au//WHA_Water_and_). Please follow these expert recommendations as inappropriate food can cause significant health issues for wildlife. A more detailed... national standard recommendation is due today or Monday and I will forward this as soon as it is available. Important considerations for food and water stations are: 1) Hygiene and disinfection - food and water should be replaced at least daily, all in contact plastic or metal including containers, wire etc. should be cleaned spotlessly with at least detergent and preferably dilute bleach. All in contact organic material (e.g. sticks) should be replaced daily. 2) Feed and water stations should be moved regularly to prevent wildlife habituating with specific locations and to protect wildlife from increased risk of predation. 3) Food and water must only be provided in the short term and there must be a plan to gradually reduce food and water provision with no further feeding or water provision once vegetation shows signs of moderate recovery. Medium to long term feeding in particular poses very significant health and ecological risks to our wildlife.
