25.01.2022 Wellers Hill Reserve Update Recently I discovered a couple of koalas residing in this small bushland reserve and this afternoon I headed back to see how they we...re going. I was so excited to firstly find the mum and her rapidly growing joey when on the walk back to the car I found two more. One was a very large male in an Eucalyptus teriticornis and then my son spotted another smaller koala in the adjacent Tallowwood (E.microcorys). The koala in the Tallowwood looked a little forlorn and may have come off second best in the interaction with the larger koala! See more

21.01.2022 When you live next to Toohey Forest it’s good to accept that the local fauna will visit and even stay in your yard. The residents of Nathan are very familiar w...ith their local Carpet pythons (Morelia spilota mcdowelli). Word got out amongst the residents this afternoon that this robust specimen (apparently its name is Gucci or Charlie) was moving down the footpath and to drive carefully. We found him/her curled up comfortably on the footpath waiting for sunset. This snake is very large and would be close to 2.5m which isn’t far off the maximum size of approximately 3m for this species in Brisbane.

13.01.2022 It's hard to believe we are still discovering new species of mammals - but it just happened! There are now two more reasons to love Australia. Meet the newest m...embers of the 'Greater Glider'. The greater glider is a possum-sized marsupial living in the forests of eastern Australia, squeezing into tree hollows during the day and at night soaring up to 100 metres through the air searching for its favourite eucalyptus leaves. And due to the fact that these fluffy little fur-balls are on the 'extinctions' list, makes this find even more remarkable. #wildaware #animals #wildlife #greaterglider See more

09.01.2022 With the weather warming up, a good addition to assist wildlife on your property is to put a few bowls of water out on the ground for a variety of animals. Thes...e shots where taken on Land for Wildlife property in Lockyer Valley (correction: this property is in the Gold Coast Hinterland) of an Echidna and Koala coming into drink from wildlife water bowls. 06.01.2022 This weeks instalment of my Toohey Forest adventures features some amazing finds at different ends of the size spectrum. From tiny newborn Eastern yellow robins..., all the way up to the Powerful Owl, who was literally less than 5 metres from the Robin’s nest. I must have been standing observing the Robins for 10 minutes or so when I looked to the adjacent tree a couple of metres higher up and there it was, staring right at me. I also had a close up encounter with a Frogmouth down by the pond who for some reason was wide awake in the middle of the day. Let’s hope we get a decent bit of rain over the next few days as the forest could do with a good drenching. See more
