24.01.2022 For second time this week Brian has gone out to euth an animal (kangaroo & today an emu) that has been hit by a car and left to suffer. Both close to home PLEASE if you hit an animal do the right thing and either ring us or the police to attend and not leave it to die sometimes days and days later. If it was a cat or a dog I am sure they would have stopped and ppl would be up in arms that someone could leave a defenceless animal to die a slow painful death like that, but... because it's just a kangaroo or emu sadly they are seen as a pest and so many just don't seem to care. It does not matter if you love them or despise them, to leave them on the side of the road with their legs snapped is cruel and inhumane. Sometimes people think because the animal hopped away it's not injured, nothing could be further from the truth. Their survival instinct is so strong that they will try to hide their injuries until they are on deaths door and can no longer fight to survive. We have attended kangaroos that have had a leg snapped completely in half and even with three people trying to help, they had too run up a steep hill to follow it in order to get close enough to get a clean shot. We hate having to euthanase an animal, it's gut wrenching but we will do it when know there is no chance of it surviving, so that it does not need to suffer any longer than it already has. See more

16.01.2022 A while back I posted about our new Fire Fighting water tank that was purchased Thanks to the generosity of WIRES who gave WILDLIFE SA a $20,000 grant. We were going to be using it for aviaries as well, but Covid kinda mucked up our plans somewhat, making wire harder to source and restricting the amount of people we could have come and help at any one time, so we are doing shelters instead. We have just finished erecting the first of 3 shelters for our kangaroo compound. Onc...e they are all erected we will be either paving or putting in a cement floor and attaching a small water tank to each one. The first shelter even passed inspection, getting the tick of approval from Tickle the Euro. Thank You Vince for all your hard work in helping Brian. WIDLIFE SA would again like to acknowledge the AMAZING GENEROSITY of WIRES. From everyone with and without fur at WILDLIFE SA, THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH WIRES, You guys ROCK! If anyone has some spare time and doesn't mind a bit of hard yakka and would like volunteer to help us with the other shelters and some other building projects, then please send us a message. Any help would be greatly appreciated
16.01.2022 ISOLATION BOREDOM BUSTER Sick and Tired of isolation? Bored of playing every game you have over and ... over again? Never Fear RUCKUS IS HERE!!! OBJECT OF THE GAME To rid your hand of cards and score points making and stealing sets. The 1st player to reach 77 points wins the game. GETTING STARTED Grab a pen and paper for score keeping and pick one player to be the scorekeeper. Shuffle the card deck well. Deal each player 7 cards, one at a time face down and place the card deck in the middle of the table. No one is allowed to pick up or look at their cards until the dealer is finished and has picked up their cards. HOW TO MAKE & STEAL SETS Look at your hand and immediately place all sets of 2 or more identical cards face up, in piles, on the table in front of you. A set can never be kept in hand for later play or be broken up for any reason. Look to see if you can steal any of your opponents' sets. To do so, your hand must contain a single card that matches the set you wish to steal. Just place your card face up on top of the matching pile and move it in front of you to show that it is now yours. Whenever a player makes a set or steals a set they must SHOUT out loud for all the other players to hear the name of that set. For example "Kangaroo" or "Galah". Without taking turns, all players steal at will and are free to make multiple steals. Stolen sets remain on the table, changing possession frequently as steal after steal occurs. If there is a break in play with no players making or stealing sets, the dealer deals each player another card, face down. The pace should be brisk - even a slight pause in the action prompts the dealer to add a new card to each player's hand triggering another flurry of sets and steals. With the new card in hand, immediately place any new sets face up on the table. If one of your new sets matches one of your existing sets, combine them into single pile. In addition to stealing, single cards in your hand can also be used to build on your existing sets, as long as the card matches the set. A soon as any player has played out their last card they must shout "RUCKUS" to stop the game. Play stops immediately and any cards remaining in other players' hands count against them. HOW TO SCORE Each player scores one point for every card in their sets on the table, and sub tracts 1 point for every card that was still in their hand when the round ended. A 5 point bonus is added to the score of the player who ended the hand by going out. The lowest possible score for a hand is 0 (negative scores are not allowed). HOW TO WIN THE GAME Scores are added to players' running totals. The first player to reach 77 points is the winner. Otherwise the deck is shuffled and a new hand is dealt by the player to the left of the most recent dealer. Think you can handle more ruckus with faster stealing, more shouting and added mayhem? Instead of having the dealer hand out new cards when needed simply apply this rule to your game. " If at any time during a round a player cannot make or steal a set from the remaining cards in their hand they must pick up a new card from the top of the card deck. LET THE RUCKUS. BEGIN!!! $15 + postage (approx $5) All proceeds go towards helping animals from WILDLIFE SA
14.01.2022 RIP Willow Willow had slightly loose poos last night but was almost back to normal this morning. She drank her morning bottle but didn't seem quite as keen as normal, all of which is nothing that alarming when its a once off when caring for kangaroos, it's when they continue to have the runs and not want their bottle you get a bit more concerned. She was still happy for a cuddle last night and this morning and was wanting to be out of her pouch. We were out all afternoon a...nd when we came home we found her lying dead on the back verandah with absolutely no visual reasons of why she died Rip my sweet girl I only took these photos last night looking after kangaroos has to be one of the most heart breaking because they are so much more fragile than people realise See more

01.01.2022 Poor Wally went to the vet on Thursday to have his boy bits removed. He decided that he was none to happy about being gassed down and so they ended up having to sedate him with an injection instead. He was still stoned when we got home, so I sat with him until he was a bit more awake
