Here we have attached another local cause which is not only helping us, but helping the local Koala Conservation Project!... We are so grateful for all the current support not only ourselves, but everyone else in need is receiving and its all because of you fantastic people. There truly is not enough words to describe how grateful we all are. If you like a bit of yoga, and want to help support 2 local wildlife causes.. 23.01.2022 Wildlife ARC has been advised that a group of well meaning ARC members calling themselves Central Coast Wildlife Search and Rescue are proposing to search the fire affected areas around Charmhaven for injured wildlife and to put out food stations. Wildlife ARC is not associated with this effort and do not use untrained volunteers to rescue wildlife, who are in a stressful environment. We are collaboratively working with WIRES, the Central Coast Council and the RFS to ensur...e that the animals receive the most appropriate ongoing care whilst ensuring the safety of all personnel. Safety of all involved is of top priority to us. Wildlife ARC will not be asking for public assistance in rescuing injured native animals. You can continue to help save our wildlife by donating to WIRES Central Coast Branch or making donations to Wildlife ARC here; https://www.givenow.com.au/wildlife-arc Wildlife ARC and WIRES have received and are currently caring for a number of fire displaced animals and will continue to do so. Please only donate to wildlife groups licenced with The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. A link is included below; https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au//wildlife-rehabilitatio

23.01.2022 How do you say thank you? Wildlife A.R.C has been overwhelmed by the generosity and willingness of our community in recent weeks. We have recieved donations of towels, pouches, blankets, bat wraps and medical supplies just to name a few, and we just cant say thank you enough!... The other day we recieved another huge donation from a lovely group of people all the way from China!! And another incredible donation from yet another lovely group in Germany Thats how far this love and kindness is travelling it has really warmed our hearts. Thank you, to all you kind, caring and magical people. You are our angels! We are so lucky to have the community we do. Though there isnt enough room to thank all of you, for your words, your donations or your support, we truly are grateful for you all Thank you, From the Wildlife A.R.C team. (Pictured bellow is our donation from China Thank you Sybil and friends )

21.01.2022 Some of our Wildlife A.R.C volunteers were kept very busy today helping our friends at the Australian Walkabout Wildlife Park. Due to the expected fires, they have been working very hard to evacuate all the animals and make sure they all have a place to go! The Walkabout Park has made their beautiful gift shop available online for over the phone purchase, this is so they can continue to bring in some funds while they need to remain evacuated. If you are looking for a gift..., or looking to support the walkabout park during this time, please consider making a purchase! Every little bit counts right now. It is absolutely amazing to see so many people put their hands in when those calls are put out. Well done everyone, lets keep this wonderful effort going

20.01.2022 As we enter baby bird season, the chances of running into eggs or freshly hatched chicks are much greater. In this article you will find some information about the process of hatching chicks. As spring is just a sleep away we want to shed some light on this so you know when and when not to intervene. If you ever have any questions, need advice or any help regarding native wildlife on the Central Coast, please call our 24 hour hotline on 0243250666 ... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2144981298956964&id=318110041644108 #TheLifeOfAWildlifeCarer #WeCareBecauseYouCare #SaveOurWildlife #SpringIsComing

19.01.2022 As you may have noticed, we have been a bit quiet on the social media front. Here at wildlife A.R.C we have continued to work tirelessly in the background as we try to recover from the past few months. Physically we did not endure the same impact as some, but the emotional impact has been high. ... Everyone, including all of you has been vastly affected by the events and we just want to take the opportunity to thank each and every single one of you again for your continued support through it all. Now as the world is faced with another crisis, we have to stop and rethink how we will tackle this hurdle. The function of A.R.C and our ability to rescue will be drastically affected. As we come in to uncertain times, the health of not only you, but us, is absolutely paramount. With this in mind and availability of our volunteers being limited, we are reviewing how we will be dealing with this indefinitely. Our hotline will still be available, but how we manage our calls and rescues will change. We just ask, during this trying time, to please be patient with us. We are all doing the best we can, and we know that includes you as well. Please everyone, take care, stay safe and be kind to one another. We will get through this.

19.01.2022 What are you doing this weekend ? Do you have some spare time? We definitely hope so because this weekend we are hosting a 2 day garage sale!! If you have a few dollars spare and a love for hidden treasure, we would love to see you there !!! ... The address of the event is; 22 Charmain Cres, Watanobbi (located on the Central Coast for anyone not local) Both Saturday and Sunday will be run from 8am to 5pm.

16.01.2022 Wildlife A.R.C just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to our wonderful community and Australia Post. Recently we received some Australia Post bags that were kindly donated to Wildlife ARC. Yesterday they certainly came in handy for a very tricky rescue! After a week of trying to capture an Eastern Grey joey, yesterday our team had the upper hand. He was safely captured and then transported snug as a bug, in an Australia Post mailer bag!... Weighing in just under 5kg, our rescuers knew this little one should still be with his mother. Unfortunately, he was separated from both his mother and his Mob when fires tore through their home in the Bluehaven - Charmhaven area on New Years Eve and sadly havent been seen since. A lovely local named Jo had been feeding him and giving him water every day. During this time, several attempts had been made to capture him but to no avail. Yesterday afternoon Jo made another call to Wildlife ARC and rescuer Janine was sent out to try to capture the elusive joey again! Thankfully he had made his way into a suburban backyard so after some planning and some team effort, success! He was placed into a large bag and then given a quick assessment onsite. Janine found that he had burns to both his feet and he needed immediate vet treatment. After a visit, he was placed on treatment for an infection and for burn management. Of course alongside with regular pain relief whilst his little body recovers. He is now in the care of Wildlife ARC and will remain so until his burns have healed and he is able to stand without pain. Once this little boy is old enough and fully recovered, we will plan for his released back to the wild.

16.01.2022 Tomorrow is looking to be a scary day.. Make sure you have a bush fire plan in place by tonight, even if you dont think you need one. This includes catering for your furred, feathered or scaled friends. Wildlife A.R.C will be operating as normal unless we need to advise otherwise. We will do our best to continue rescue and care tomorrow for as long as it is safe to do so. ... Stay safe everyone.

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who attended our introductory training day yesterday! We had a wonderful turn out and welcomed some lovely new faces to the A.R.C Welcome aboard guys! If you missed this one, dont worry guys, we will keep you posted about the next one !

12.01.2022 It has come to the attention of Wildlife ARC that an individual purporting to be a member of Wildlife ARC is providing a reptile removal service for a fee. Wildlife ARC does not charge for any service performed by our members, nor are our members allowed to charge for a service. Wildlife ARC members carry a membership card whilst performing rescues on behalf of Wildlife ARC. Please insist on sighting this prior to allowing any of our members to assist.... Wildlife ARC only recommends reputable, fully trained and licenced snake professionals in instances where we cannot assist members of the public. When engaging a professional handler, insist on sighting their Catch and Release Licence prior to engaging the professional. It is mandatory that the licence is carried when performing any service and for your protection do not allow any individual to perform a service until you are satisfied that they are appropriately licenced, as a licenced professional is covered by an appropriate public liability insurance policy too. Please contact our 24 hour, 7 day per week rescue line on 02 4325 0666 for further information. The National Parks and Wildlife website lists licensed snake catchers at the following link: https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au//reptile-catch-and-rele

12.01.2022 Please take the time to read this if you are putting out food for wildlife following the bushfires!

11.01.2022 Please consider donating to help Ash the burnt Diamond python one of our carers is rehabilitating. 11.01.2022 With baby season now among us, its that time of year where this reminder is important ! And though this post targets Masked Lapwings, nesting behaviour is well under way with a lot of our local species. This means "swooping season" is here. Its time to be vigilant, and where possible, avoid nesting birds. This behaviour usually dies down when chicks hatch so please be patient.. ... 09.01.2022 Attention. Attention Recently weve noticed an increase in Lace Monitor activity on the NSW Central Coast. We are receiving many calls for Lace Monitors in backyards, camping sites, being hit by cars or looking for an easy meal. ... We take this time to remind everyone that you should NEVER handle/capture/feed them yourself as they are dangerous animals. Please understand that with the bushfires crisis these apex predators are roaming outside of their usual ranges in desperate need for food and water. Being scavengers at heart, they walk camp grounds and roads looking for quick meals. If you are camping keep your food locked up and rubbish properly disposed of. If you see dead carcasses on the road side please pouch check any marsupials then pull the body off the road so monitors can eat it in safety. Its also breeding time so if you see an injured or dead reptile roadside please call it in for an egg-check. Last year we hatched 7 different clutches of reptile eggs thanks to exactly this. Finally while Lace monitors can cause serious injury requiring hospital or surgery, please understand that just like the Wallabies, King Parrots and Koalas these large lizards have been dramatically affected by the fires and are just trying to survive playing an integral part in the species richness of the NSW Central Coast. At this time feed stations are not required for Lace Monitors. Simple steps like dragging roadkill off the road, leaving out water and keeping scraps away from them will be sufficient to allow their continued survival

06.01.2022 Why hello there wonderful people ! We are happy to announce that WE ARE BACK! You may have noticed our absence as we took a much needed rest from social media ! 04.01.2022 This speaks so many truths. They have a right to live and as do you.. We need to live in harmony with all these beautiful creatures, we need them.

04.01.2022 Attention, attention Masked Lapwing (commonly referred to as Plovers) season is in full swing and it has come to our attention that we need to remind everyone of a few things. We do NOT remove or relocate plover eggs. (This also applies to you) ... We do not have methods for "making them go away" or "moving them out of my yard" They are not "just a plover". They are an Australian native that deserves the same protection and RESPECT every other Australian animal does. You do not under any circumstances forcibly hatch and / or damage the eggs. Plovers spurs are not poisonous and typically cannot hurt you. Plovers have been known to use these spurs as defence on predatory animals trying to interfere with the nest. It is a very last resort for these guys to make physical contact while swooping and defending, this applies with other animals or humans. Plovers do what every parent does, they protect their offspring. They protect them from harm. They give them every chance they possibly can to be okay. They only have a voice and a swoop during incubation to try and ensure their young are safe and hatch. Incubation lasts between 28-30 days. This is the period Plovers are most protective. Be patient. The more suburbia gets built up and habitat gets taken away, the closer we get to these animals that are just trying to do what you are in this world. Survive. We live in their homes, not the other way around and this expands well beyond Plovers. Something we all need to remember and be respectful to.

02.01.2022 If you live around the NSW Central Coast and would like to rescue, care or support our amazing local wildlife this is your opportunity to join our team! While the bushfire disaster has brought focus to our wildlife, in truth it is a long term project protecting our native fauna, improving the ecosystem and educating the people on the best way to live in our unique combination of cities, beach and bushland. The Wildlife A.R.C. takes over 6,000 calls a year arranging thousands ...of rescues, hundreds and hundreds of mouths to feed, tens of vets to work with then falling to a our small team of dedicated carers and rescuers to do everything they can to rehabilitate and restore animals to the wild. In welcoming 2020 and wishing to advance and streamline The Wildlife A.R.C. training of new members, we have updated the Introductory Training to encompass 2 smaller parts: Step 1 - Online theory component. Done at your own pace prior to the practical workshop. Step 2 - Practical workshop component. Done face to face with our Training Officer with monthly course availability. To be able to complete Online theory you will first need to be a member of The Wildlife A.R.C. so that you get access to our Database and in turn modules. For further questions please contact our friendly Membership Officer at [email protected] If you attend the Practical workshop prior to completion of Online theory, you will have 2 months to complete Online theory component. Ideally completing Online theory then Practical workshop will mean we can instantly activate you as a rescuer and/or carer. We will announce as soon as Online theory is available online, followed by dates for Practical workshop. Both Online theory and Practical workshop are about helping you understand the licence and Code of Practices that we work under, the make-up and function of The Wildlife A.R.C. and an introduction to wildlife rescue and care. Our trainers will work with you to ensure competency and understanding. If you have any questions regarding training prior to the announcement of availabilities, please either contact our 24/7 rescue hotline 0243250666, send a direct message or email [email protected] Stay tuned for more!
