25.01.2022 Recent analysis of relevant shark morphologies across their lifespans has let scientists calculate that the prehistoric Megalodon shark likely reached a length of 16 m (53 feet). This is more than 2.5 times what modern white sharks reach! http://www.geologypage.com//true-size-of-prehistoric-mega-
25.01.2022 Pretty amazing finding about these gentle giants!
24.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this The Stingray Diaries
24.01.2022 Seriously, don’t go around annoying fin whales Love the first sentence here
22.01.2022 A good read about #sharks and points to consider when thinking about shark control programs https://www.abc.net.au//shark-predators-attack-ec/12660588
21.01.2022 Nothing to do with marine, but a really interesting read on how suburban tree coverage markedly decreases temperature and increases "liveability". Certainly something worth pressing your local council about - trees (which haven't been on earth as long as sharks - had to throw in a shark fact ;)) provide oxgyen, shade, habitat, food sources for birds/animals, as well as increasing local aesthetics! https://www.greenerspacesbetterplaces.com.au//where-will-/
21.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who tuned in for our World Ocean Day online summit discussion! Lots of fun and some great questions! #WorldOceansDay #waoceanhealth #waof #forblue
16.01.2022 Happy Shark Appreciation Day! Although unwanted interactions with people do sometimes happen, always keep in mind sharks are not mindless killers, ignore people 99.9% of time, and do not "infest" their waters They serve important ecological roles, and are pretty amazing animals on so many levels... Here's a pic of the shark which inspired the Wildlife Marine logo (we say inspired but we literally flipped and copied it). She's a gorgeous juvenile Galapogos shark which we photographed back in 2007
13.01.2022 As part of World Ocean's Day 2020, Wildlife Marine's Dr Will Robbins will be part of an online virtual summit discussing Facing the Future. Will will be part of the Attracting Attention & Education session, but the whole day should be interesting and alot of fun! https://forblue.io/oceans-day/
11.01.2022 Pretty cool footage, although the terms "giant shark" and lurks menancingly really annoy me should read white #shark innocently goes about its business without bothering anyone. Guess that’s not nearly as confrontational as the current headline tho :/ https://www.abc.net.au//giant-shark-stalks-unsusp/12391682
06.01.2022 Awesome work by Biopixel monitoring turtle numbers using RPA’s (drones) in North Queensland https://www.news.com.au///79a3338c0eca0a9a90444ba09d0ccc79
06.01.2022 While some fisheries can still land #shark fin unattached, this is a great step in the right direction! Well done to Qld Fisheries for reducing the incentive and opportunity to kill sharks just for their fins https://www.oceanographicmagazine.com//fins-naturally-att/
05.01.2022 See below for an opportunity for students looking to undertake a Masters of Science. Wildlife Marine's Dr Will Robbins has collaborated on bits and pieces with Prof Dave Booth before, and highly recommends him to any prospective student
05.01.2022 Nice work by one of Wildlife Marine’s former collaborators. Here’s hoping the SharkSafe barrier is successful in Reunion Island! #shark https://www.theguardian.com//swim-on-sharks-nothing-to-see
04.01.2022 Not encouraging anyone to break the laws, but nice to see the young whale freed from Qld #shark nets before drowning https://www.news.com.au///b6cc31f0969a38d9fba7702ba9bc889c#
03.01.2022 Today’s fishy fun fact. Fishes such as parrotfish and eels have a second set of jaws to grind up food! Called pharyngeal jaws, these are located in the throat and mean the external teeth can be adapted for food procurement only rather than also for food processing
01.01.2022 The EPA is having a 7-day public consultation regarding continuation of the SMART drumline program around Ngari Capes, Western Australia. If you want to have your say, get your comments in by the 6th May! https://consultation.epa.wa.gov.au//c/consultation/intro/
