21.01.2022 If you are trying to get hold of me today, I am in the Nature Conservation Council AGM as the Delegate for DImmocks Retreat Wildlife all day and will be checking messages etc. when we have breaks.

17.01.2022 Where is #wildlifenursegreg today? Attending the 2020 Australian Mammal Society Conference. Staying connecting to my peers and ensuring that I am working from the latest studies is critical to the success of our outcomes.

16.01.2022 Patient 2 and 3 for today, and 5 & 6 for the week. It's been a busy week this week. Not sure what's the go with these two, found in a yard just spacing out. Well hydrated, but a little on the thin side....observation, vitals and close monitoring till we can get the to the Hospital tomorrow morning.

16.01.2022 You know things are getting serious when this comes out of the forest into your backyard....its tough country to cut a line in with steep gullies and cliff lines that are abundant in the region. Thanks for your hard work guys, hope it pays off and saves our sanctuary enclosures so we have somewhere to come back to.

16.01.2022 Such an exciting day....

15.01.2022 I have had a few people reach out asking if they should go into the bush and put out food and water stations. If the area is burnt, please do not go into the area. There is a real risk of trees falling post burn. Once the RFS give us the go ahead to enter the burn area we will be out there. In the mean time, find places near the burn area that are safe and put the feed and water stations there.... Greg

15.01.2022 Life as a wildlife nurse is not always wombat cuddles and kangaroo kisses.......

14.01.2022 All set up at the Bowral Bowling Club for the markets with Dimmocks Retreat Wildlife. Did you know that wombats and koalas are cousins?

13.01.2022 Attending the VetEducation Vet Nurse Virtual Conference 2020 tonight - listening to Sam from Exotic Veterinary Nurse Training update us our Avian Nursing practices. Thanks Sam

13.01.2022 Morning tea time at the pathology workstation. Can you spot the lurker after my toast?

13.01.2022 I love surprises in the mail, recertified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

10.01.2022 One of the activities we have been fortunate enough to start this year is visual and audio monitoring of our release areas, we get some amazing footage of the wildlife that visits. Check out this cheeky example..

10.01.2022 With everything that has been going on this year, I forgot about this little patient until it came up in my 'memories' and decided to share some of the good work that we do at Dimmocks Retreat Wildlife and Bundanoon Veterinary Hospital.

08.01.2022 Evacuated from our evacuation site, everyone packed up on the 4WD's again. And we have 2 new little additions, a sugar glider and a juvenile Rosella. Not sure w...ere we are heading next, we are pretty much surrounded by fires now and hiding in the Carpark to stay out of the sun. We have a few offers to relocate to, but all this moving, packing up, unpacking etc is stressing the critters beyond belief.

06.01.2022 We are evacuating, in the last 20 mins the smoke has dropped and it smells lile fire here. Rather than wait and rush, we are gathering our critters and going.

03.01.2022 This is Napoleon who went missing for 2 weeks after the RFS cut a much needed a firebreak through the back of the sanctuary. Quickly followed bu the bush fire, leaving our native forest and half our property black and burnt. He returned a few nights ago, stumbling onto the sanctuary looking lost and very confused. ... Justine and I were so incredibly happy, tears of joy for one of our rehabilitated boys who made it home and we had presumed lost. Naps (his nick name) is suffering from some singed fur as well as minor burns. His fur is matted, full of burrs and he has not been grooming himself. He is home now, drinking lots of water and enjoying his favourite food. Bridgette (his best mate) greeted him and commenced grooming him. We have also been giving him a daily brush (with a cat brush of all things) to remove the dead skin and help un-matt his fur. He has a few lacerations around one of his big toes which we suspect if from going through a barbed wire fence. We are ecstatic that he found his way home and after a thorough check of his lungs (no abnormal sounds), heart rate (within expected range), urine tests (some outside of range values) and a poo float (nothing observed). Naps is now taking each day as it comes. He of course gets a daily nursing check, has his woulds treated and is monitored for myopathy which is a real risk. Should anything change, he will be referred to our fantastic Veterinarians at Bundanoon Veterinary Hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Cheers Wildlife Nurse Greg
