24.01.2022 Tawny Tuesday, a great guide by Wildcare on Tawny Frogmouths If you find a Tawny that needs help in the Moreton Bay Area please call our hotline on 0478 901 801

23.01.2022 It is now the season for flying fox pupsWe work closely with the Moreton Bay Regional Council to support the Flying Foxes in the Moreton Bay region. We were lucky enough to have Jess Goring, senior environmental officer with MBRC to address our dedicated bat carers yesterday following an amazing digital workshop presented electronically by Dr Tania Bishop, wildlife veterinarian on Flying Fox Heat Stress Events. Jess worked with us to collaborate and outline council expectations and strategies to help bats during a heat stress event. We are very thankful the MBRC are so supportive and proactive in this space, so when a heat stress event occurs we will be ready to get out and save as many lives as we can

21.01.2022 This is too good not to share....and it’s got a great message too

20.01.2022 Tuesday Tails This is the story of little Poppy the Brushtail Possum that was rescued over the weekend from Ferny Hills, her Mum dropped her unfortunately and kind people who regularly see Poppy and her mum called our hotline for help. One of our amazing rescuers went on Friday night to attempt re-uniting Mumma and Poppy but sadly mum didn't come... Mumma sometimes sleeps in a nook in the laundry of the kind people who called us so they were keeping an eye out for Mumma as well. The rescuers went Saturday and Sunday night but Mumma still did not show up. However with some creative thinking about how to reunite Mumma and Poppy, Monday morning the rescuers had a breakthrough and were able to successfully reunite Mumma and Poppy. You can see in the second pic Poppy is safely snug back in her Mumma pouch We would like to thank the hard working rescue volunteers Marnie and Delilah who spent all weekend trying to reunite Poppy with her mum. Also a big Thank You to the kind family who call us to help with this rescue

13.01.2022 Spring time means lots of baby birds We get HEAPS of call about birds and fledglings needing help, this is a great image to save in your phone so you can refer to it if you find a nest or fledging The pictures of baby birds are from a kind person in Morayfield who found a nest that had fallen out of a tree, they took the time to make a simple nest for the baby birds and put up it back up in the tree... Remember to keep an eye out to see if the fledgings parents are around, a lot of the time they are learning to fly when good-intentioned people think they are in trouble and take them. If you’re in doubt, call our hotline for advice 0478 901 801

12.01.2022 Stripey has left the building A couple of weeks ago we posted about Stripey the female Brushtail possum who came into care with a case of dermatitis. Wonderful news for this little mumma, she has responded to her medical treatment from her carer and the wonderful team at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital and she has been released back into her territory As you can see from her photos, her dermatitis has healed nicely and the fur will grow back over time where the scabs once... were. If you see any wildlife that needs assistance please give our 24/7 hotline a call on 0478 901 801

12.01.2022 It’s time for Bert, Gert and Poppy to move to the next stage of their journey to freedom It is always a sad time, when the time comes to let them go, however it is also a time of celebration Bert, Gert and Poppy have been a huge part of their wonderful carers lives this year and they will be very missed. They have moved to join a larger group of joeys so they can all continue to grow up together in care so that when the time comes for them all to be released back into th...e wild (in about a year) they will have formed their own mob Their dedicated carer put together this beautiful little video celebrating a few clips of the cheeky little joeys in care

10.01.2022 Update on Jerry Jerry is our little Eastern Grey Joey who was cruelly shot by some awful person with an air rifle in Narangba. Jerry has been doing really well in care, he has had 1 of the pellets work it’s way out of his body leaving 1 pellet left. His carer has been working closely with the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to make sure Jerry’s wounds are healing nicely... Jerry has made lots of new friends in his new mob, here he is standing up in the middle looking at the camera We will keep you updated on how Jerry continues in his rehabilitation before his soft release in time

10.01.2022 This time of year is what we call the ‘Trauma Season’. It’s only the 3rd week in and we already have had a really large number of calls for injured wildlife each day. We are averaging a minimum of 10 wallaby/kangaroo and countless possum collisions with cars that require euthanasia every week. The paws in the picture are from some of the passed Kangaroos and Wallabies we have had to euthanise in the past week alone. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, it happens every year but thi...s year is unusually high numbers and frequency already. Many are female who have joeys, they have either had their babies thrown from their pouches, injured or killed from impact and it’s never nice to attend these. If you can’t stop to help an animal, please call our 24/7 hotline on 0478 901 801 so we can get a carer there ASAP as we do rescue some joeys that survive. Please do not ever remove a Joey from a pouch unless you are trained, it can kill a Joey to remove it from its mother’s teat unless done correctly by a carer. Please slow down, take care at dawn, dusk and night especially in areas that are marked for wildlife.

01.01.2022 This is beautiful little Hufflepuff Hufflepuff is another Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo that we have in care. As you can see in this video, Hufflepuff is not as healthy as Sirius Black that we posted earlier this week, she doesn’t stand well at all Hufflepuff came into care as a fledgling. She was extremely malnourished and lethargic. She requires feeding 4 times a day with a specialised food mix to help her get better. This video is her carer Byron demonstrating how she is fed (mimicking how a parent cockatoo would feed). We will keep you updated with how Hufflepuff progresses as Byron is going to video her feeding progression to share with you
