25.01.2022 Happy Steve Irwin Day!!! Our local sunny coast hero who changed our world. A leader in conservation and bringing awareness of wildlife to people across the globe

24.01.2022 We are in the middle of torrential rain here on the Sunshine Coast. This poor totally water logged Wedge tail needed rescuing at 11pm tonight. When we eventually got home, we were flooded! This land of extremes! At least its a dry night now for soggy Aquila Thursday update:... Aquila is still a bit damp but looking magnificent this morning. He will be released once hes completely dry and has had a really good feed. Friday update: Aquila has gone home and is back where he belongs.

24.01.2022 SAVING THE ALPINE BRUMBIES Another scandal from the Victorian Parks and Wildlife has been temporarily halted. Federal Court decision to support the mass shooting of these magnificent animals is nothing but desk-bound pen pushing and keeping people sweet. The trouble is, the people charged with the management and preservation of our wildlife spaces arent the right people. ... Wild spaces always have a dollar value. Can we mine it, log it, build on it. But what they are really good at is monetising, destroying and pushing species to extinction. WAKE UP! We have the highest rate of extinction on this planet. We have lost our way and continue to follow a misguided path paved with destructive dollar bills! NO TO THE MASS SLAUGHTER OF ALPINE BRUMBIES! NO TO DESTRUCTIVE LOGGING! Parks Victoria - what a shameful lot!

23.01.2022 Protected Native Swallows Active Nests Hosed Down Into Pieces at Coolum. Please share! Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast have been monitoring the 6 Swallow nests outside Woolworths Coolum. These nests were ACTIVE with eggs or chicks in them and parents returning.... Over the last 24 hours these nests have been blasted down with a high pressure hose into pieces. The Same Thing Happened Last Year. Which was reported to the RSPCA Please watch the video below and share share share These birds and their active nests are protected under the Nature Conservation Act and this is not ok. Disclaimer: This is not Woolworths or any business at the Coolum Centre, its is Centre Management which is MCM Properties who have given permission for this to occur for the second year running. Last year they were warned this is an offence and they have repeated the devastation again this year to these nests. WRSC hotline: 0458 682 152 24hrs

23.01.2022 This is how change happens. Through the people, just like you and our team. Public pressure and public demand makes a huge difference. Lets make sure, we all do our bit to protect habitat; not just for now, but for the future. Please share your stories where youve seen change happen, big, small it doesnt matter. We want to share the victories.

23.01.2022 HARRISON - The joey kangaroo that recovered from cardiomyopathy. Harrison is an 8kg, Eastern Grey Kangaroo. He was found hanging over wire in Eliza May Drive, Buderim, on Friday 13th. He was a very sick joey, suffering from capture myopathy. We sent in our macropod rescue team to recover him. ... Harrison was given a calmative and transported to receive life saving treatment into the care of a wonderfully experienced macropod expert. Liaising with her vet, Harrison was put onto a drip, kept sedated and received other vitamins and minerals to help him fight the effects of cardiomyopathy and reverse the condition. This includes Vit E and selenium. As you can see in the first three pictures, he was one sick little boy. The myopathy was full blown. Over the next 48 hours it was crucial to manage his pain, keep him on a full-time drip, sedated and get him to urinate and start flushing out the build-up of dangerous myopathy related toxins. By Day 3 Harrison was nibbling pellet and chewing grass. His drip was moved to his tail and he was urinating well. His temperature was now normal. Day 5 and he’s starting to look much brighter. The sleepless nights his carer went through were paying off. He was enjoying his milk and he was carried outside to visit some of the sanctuary’s other guests. Everyone had a good sniff and there was a definite welcome. Harrison reacted with wiggly ears and a sigh of recognition. Being around your own species is very helpful when you are healing. The familiarity and calmness plays a huge part in recover. Day 7 Harrison is bright and alert, standing once again like a young teenager ready to take on the world. Taking 300ml of milk and enjoying grass, pellet and red soil. This little fighter wanted to live. He wanted to recover. Day 9 The last picture shows Harrison (on the left) digging in to his red soil. He is still being monitored but by CCTV now from the comfort of his carers bed. Cardiomyopathy does not have to mean a death sentence. Harrison isn’t the first big joey that has been saved from myopathy by our amazing friend, and he won’t be the last. Our love and respect to Tabs. Thank you also to our friend Lyn Gynther for her invaluable support.

23.01.2022 Posted @withregram @amybartlett777 The Start of Spring = The Start of Trauma Season for Wildlife Spring brings abundance of food and ideal weather, triggering mating and reproducing . This results in more animals on the move, and more young ones finding their way in the world Unfortunately this also comes at a cost, as more animals are hit by cars as they try to cross the roads , and young animals are left orphaned or kidnapped from their parents . This is the ...busiest time of year in wildlife vet clinics and staff are constantly run off their feet dealing with baby bird feeds, Joey feeds, patient monitoring and incoming/outgoing patients Please remember for this trauma season: - Keep the number for your local wildlife rescue service and wildlife hospital handy WRSC 0458 682 152 - If you hit an animal or come across an injured animal, try to place it in a quiet, dark box and get it to a vet or wildlife hospital (its always handy to keep a box and towel in the boot of the car just in case). Do not offer food or water - If you see a deceased kangaroo, possum or wombat, please stop and see if there is a little one in the pouch - Please keep an eye on the roads at dawn and dusk - If you find a baby bird, keep an eye out for its parents before transporting it to safety as they may just be learning to fly - If youre unsure of anything, call any wildlife hospital for advice Lets try to minimise our impact this trauma season and embrace spring #wildlifevetnurse #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #nativewildlife #vetnurse #vetnurselife #traumaseason #spring #springtime

23.01.2022 7th of September was National Threatened Species Day, it also happens to be same day that in 1936 the Tasmanian Tiger became extinct. Did you know Australia has the highest extinction rate in the world due to habitat loss? We are destroying our native animals and their homes at an alarming speed. At this rate our grandchildren wont see koalas in the wild. That is simply heartbreaking.... Whats even more alarming is that over 80% of our Wildlife and the plants they need to survive are unique to Australia. This means if we don't do something soon to save them they will be gone forever. We can make a difference though, step by step. The article below has some great ways to help our native wildlife. Take a read and start saving our native friends today https://www.wwf.org.au//national-threatened-species-day-a-

23.01.2022 Why shouldn’t we eat kangaroo meat, it’s supposed to be good for us. If like a lot of us, you are looking for healthier food to eat, maybe you need to reduce your cholesterol or eat a Heart Smart diet, then maybe you’ve been recommended kangaroo as a ‘healthy’ option. Sadly, there’s so much incorrect and misleading information circulated on the Internet that people genuinely confused....Continue reading

23.01.2022 Meet Cuba! Isn’t he just adorable? A very, very lucky little Swamp Wallaby joey. This morning little Cuba was found by some wonderful people who called us straight away after finding him in the bushes on David Low Way, Marcoola. (Next to where the slow down wallabies crossing signs were taken down) ... His mother must of been hit and killed by a car as he had some scratches that suggested he had been dragged along the road. So incredibly sad. We haven’t found Mum The meeting place to pick him up was Cuba Street Cafe so we decided to name him Cuba. We are losing our wildlife at a rapid rate, we need people to spread the word and please slow down! Say NO to development and YES to saving land and please watch out for our precious animals. We will be updating Cuba’s progress as he gets himself strong again. Stay tuned! Isn’t he just the sweetest?

22.01.2022 TODAY IS WORLD KANGAROO DAY PLEASE DONATE AND SHARE LIKE CRAZY We need your urgent help today. On world kangaroo day, we need urgent donations. Kangaroos are dying at the hands of developers and greedy land-grabbers. Kangaroos like Orion. The big male Eastern Grey Kangaroo in the mud was killed by development of the new airport runway on the Sunshine Coast, right in our own backyard. ... Upsettingly, he fell into a deep, water-logged, clay-filled pit around 11am. He was 'removed' with a front end loader and dumped on the bank. He was left there for six hours before anyone called us for help! We had to walk through the deep, exposed pit area on narrow duck-boards, at night to reach him. This poor animal was exhausted, freezing cold, dying of cardio-myopathy and nobody cared. We eventually reached him. This once magnificent 70+kg kangaroo was reduced to this sad, sad image. We sedated him and then came the task of carrying him out of there. This should not be happening. Never. Ever. THIS IS WHY WILDLIFE NEED SAFE HAVENS. Since April 2018 deaths of Kangaroos and wallabies on the Sunshine Coast have increased by 1007%. Those are just our figures, the ones we’ve been to. This world kangaroo day we need your help. To help others like Orion. We’re looking to give them a place that they can call home. Where they can sleep knowing they are safe. A place knowing that they can eat without fear and a place where they can raise their young with freedom and security. On world kangaroo day we need to raise $50,000 to make this happen for our kangaroos. We estimate that the funds raised will help save at least 50 kangaroos. Can you please chip in to make this happen? Kangaroos like Orion are counting on us. We receive no government funds so we rely on your help so much. Every dollar that you donate on this special day will go straight to the kangaroos. $25 will feed a young kangaroo for a week. Just $5 from each and every one of you would be so amazing. It’s the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will help save a life. Please donate now: https://wildlife-rescue-sunshine-coast-inc.giveeasy.org/wor

22.01.2022 RAT BAIT and SLUG BAIT KILL POSSUMS 10 minutes ago, this possum died. We rescued this beautiful Short Eared Possum with suspected poisoning and he died within minutes of being contained. ... Rodenticides cause possums to die of internal bleeding and hemmoraging when they eat it. This possum may we’ll have been in agony for 24 hrs or more. This is sickening. The volume of blood from his mouth and nose was too horrific to include in these photos. This animal was in a suburban street in Nambour. My street, where I live. POISONS KILL SLOWLY AND VERY PAINFULLY, AND ARE INHUMANE TO ANY SPECIES. Today I am ropable. Claire Smith Founder, WRSC inc.

21.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET 11.11.11 Before anyone maligns the pigeon, remember that these birds played a very important role during both World Wars. Here in Australia they are considered feral pests and are poisoned, euthanised by vets, hated vehemently by many people and generally treated very badly. ... On this Day of Remembrance, we remember all the pigeons who saved countless lives during two World Wars. LEST WE FORGET.

21.01.2022 Today at the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast we had a day of tree planting and cuddles with wallabies. Great to have Simon & Abbie McDermott of McDermott Aviation Group come along and reunite with the Townsville Agile Wallabies they flew down to the Sunshine Coast. Raising awareness on International Wildlife Day.

21.01.2022 The petition asking State Parliament for better koala protection in south east Queensland closes on Friday - please sign and share http://bit.ly/SEQkoalaPetiti...on This petition from Queensland residents asks Parliament to: List the koala as 'critically endangered' in SEQ since the rapid decline of koala populations is unlikely to be stemmed by the implementation of the draft Koala Conservation Strategy Implement stronger planning laws that will be effective in protecting koala habitat (the exemptions in the current draft Koala Conservation Strategy allow unsustainable clearing to continue, especially in the urban footprint) Implement the recommendations from the Queensland Koala Expert Panel, including the recommendation to protect koala habitat within the urban footprint Reinstate the previously protected Koala Habitat Areas that were removed in the recent mapping in the draft SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy Declare a moratorium on the removal of koala habitat, including significant isolated trees in the urban footprint, until such time that effective koala habitat planning protections are in place Withdraw the Toondah Harbour 'Priority Development Area' at Cleveland that threatens the future of a significant healthy breeding koala colony. Photo from 2017 is of a young koala in southern Cleveland.

21.01.2022 I love feeding my local magpies and birds So often we hear about people feeding their local birds. The Maggie’s call for their morning breakfast or arvo snack. They sing to us and our hearts warm to their love. They bring their young, tap on our screens, call to us and that human connection in us feels a sense of love. We feel like we are helping. We aren’t.... As humans we love animals (well most of us), we want to feel connected to them, help them, love them and enjoy feeling loved by them. We get it. We do too. But we aren’t helping, not like this. We are killing them with kindness. Feeding birds bread, cheap mince and other human food creates nutritional deficiencies and they suffer metabolic bone disease ( MBD) where their bones and beaks are soft. This causes irreparable damage and the animals need to be euthanised or they die in the wild painfully. This little magpie was found last night, his legs completely backwards. Metabolic bone disease. The crow is the photo couldn’t close his beak, he would starve in the wild. He was put to sleep. Metabolic bone disease. People feeding their magpies love them dearly, they would never want to see them hurt or in pain. The truth is, this is what happens and it’s happening at a rapid rate. This last week we have rescued so many birds with MBD. What can you do? STOP cheap fatty mince STOP bread STOP human food You CAN feed, beef heart cut into thin strips like worms and it MUST be coated in insectivores. Which is a powder that can be found online or at pet shops. OR Top quality lean mince with insectivores and needs to have an almost dry consistency. These are the ONLY two options, please don’t feed cheap mince and please don’t feed without insectivore as it causes the deficiencies. MBD happens quickly, you feed the parents and their babies end up like this. If you truly love them, like we know you do, plant gardens, worm farms or feed the above options and nothing else. The hardest thing for us is rescuing animals where the illness/injury could have been prevented. This doesn’t need to happen if we all do the right thing. One of the most difficult things for us is getting people to believe the impact they are having. People tell us our Maggie’s are fine, I’ve fed them for years. These photos are the proof that they aren’t fine. Please help the best way you can. Know better, do better And thank you for loving our wildlife If you would like to make a donation to our campaign please do so via PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=RAC4XJJZSK75E Please mark your donation SAFE HAVEN. Thank you

20.01.2022 SHIRT FOR DIRT CAMPAIGN As you know, at WRSC we have made the decision that we need to buy land to safeguard habitat for our local wildlife. Since April 2018, we have experienced a 1007% increase in Kangaroo and Wallaby deaths which are directly attributable to the insane over-development the Coast is being subjected to. We've raised just under $30K in the last couple of weeks via our email campaign. The generosity and concern shown by donors has blown us away. WE CANNOT DO ...THIS WITHOUT YOU. In five years time it will be too late, trust us. It's rare to see a koala now. Pelicans are disappearing faster than you can imagine and, our kangaroos and wallabies are being killed, maimed and orphaned by the hundreds. How do we know this? We keep precise records of every rescue and have an interactive mapping tool which plots every macropod we attend. You can help by purchasing a SHIRT FOR DIRT for $39.95 Each shirt sold will fund 3sqm of land. UNISEX S,M,L,XL P&P Australia wide $8.70 To order your SHIRT FOR DIRT please email us at; [email protected] with your FULL NAME, POSTAL ADDRESS, SIZE REQUIRED and your payment preference, PAYPAL or BANK TRANSFER. TOGETHER WE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS

20.01.2022 NSW GOVERNMENT - HELL BENT ON ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION! COVID -19 has been a great distraction for underhanded dirty deals to progress. Our great land is UNDER SERIOUS THREAT - driven by short-term greed and an insatiable focus on economic growth at any cost. ... THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED! Fires. Virus. But the economic greed at our expense and that of the environment is tantamount to gross misconduct, and these elected guardians need to be ousted and replaced with responsible citizens of the planet. Idealistic? You better believe it. It is critical that we STOP THE ROT. The pervasive ineptitude of those with power MUST be challenged and they must be held accountable. NATIONAL PARKS are sacred places. While Victoria Parks are making a claim that 100 brumbies are causing insurmountable damage (BS) in the Alpine region, NSW Govt are actively seeking to permanently destroy previous land and set a president for systematic destruction of land declared as significant to the well being of this country and our wild places. LOOK AROUND YOU AND SEE WHAT OTHER DIRTY DEALS HAVE BEEN GOING ON SINCE COVID-19. Our National Parks are OUR HERITAGE as a Nation. We CANNOT let a handful of opportunist environmental terrorists destroy one inch of this land. TODAY, Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of NSW, WE HOLD YOU PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROPOSED DESTRUCTION in Kosciuszko National Park. Contact https://www.nsw.gov.au/premier-of-nsw/contact-premier or: [email protected] and tell her exactly what you think of this heinous plan. Let the Environment Minister, Matt Kean, know your thoughts: [email protected] STAND UP. SPEAK OUT. SAY NO!

18.01.2022 CALLING ALL MACROPOD CARERS Have you got a story you would like to share about recovery from myopathy, broken limbs or other health issues that you have overcome with your kangaroos and wallabies? We want to hear from you at WRSC. Post a picture and share your experience below. ... Myopathy and broken limbs DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN EUTHANASIA. It's time this myth was dispelled once and for all. Let's celebrate the successes carers are having. Can't wait to see your pictures

18.01.2022 HAVE YOU DONATED TO A CHARITY VIA GOFUNDME AND WANT YOUR MONEY BACK? A lot of people are very unhappy with the fact that some charities have raised a lot of money, and are sitting on it. You can ask for your money back if the charity used GoFundMe, for instance. ... https://support.gofundme.com//204150420-Refund-Requesting- Just click on the link and submit your claim. If you donated directly to one of these BIG charities and you dont believe they are using your donation for what it was intended, call or write to them and ask for your money back. Its your money. If you believe its not being used in the correct way, like its sitting in a bank accumulating lots and lots of interest...ASK FOR IT BACK! Its your right.

18.01.2022 THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FAKE STORIES OF HABITAT DESTRUCTION CAUSED BY THE ALPINE BRUMBIES. Read this.

17.01.2022 Koalas in SE Queensland will be functionally extinct before 2025. If you CARE about our wildlife NOW is the time to HELP. OPERATION SAFE HAVEN is a community initiative, and we will be TAKING BACK THE LAND! If you believe our wildlife is more important that endless concrete jungle developments then join our TEAM. ... But there's no such thing as a FREE LUNCH and there's no such thing as TAKING BACK THE LAND for free either. This is about you, me, us putting our money where it will make the most significant change to the preservation of our wildlife. CAN WE AFFORD TO LOSE OUR KOALA? If we could show you how less than the cost of dinner for two at the RSL could preserve our native wildlife, would you join us? Can you afford to go without this one cost meal knowing it can help preserve and save our wildlife? PLEASE SHARE THIS POST. IF YOU WANT TO HELP, send an email to [email protected] with the Heading SAFE HAVEN. Thank you.

16.01.2022 UPDATE: Council are apparently on site. Just trimming overhanging branches, this is apparently not a dispersal Tallowood Road - Trees behind the Shops. Reports of trees being felled tonight where the flying foxes roost. Anyone in that area able to get photos please???... Weve contacted Bat Rescue and the Council Enviro Dept. We need information on whats happening, why and who has authorised this. Claire

14.01.2022 DONT PANIC Along with out of control toilet paper purchases, theres fake news filtering through about the C virus that we need to quash right now. You are not going to get sick from rescuing wildlife in need, birds in your trees, possums in your roof, bats in your belfry or treading in kangaroo poo. ... However, you can make yourself sick by worrying or injure yourself by slipping and bashing your head (requiring 10 stitches) whilst chasing down the last toilet roll on the supermarket shelf. We advise against eating native or exotic animals if you are travelling overseas. Mainly because its cruel, illegal and stupid and you will most likely get very sick.

14.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE: We are operational 24/7 but limiting rescues to EMERGENCIES ONLY. This includes injured Kangaroos and wallabies, koala and large water birds like pelicans and swans If you can please take any injured, sick or orphaned wildlife that you find to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital they will be attended to by qualified wildlife vet nurses and wildlife vets. The zoo hospital is open 24/7. ... Eumundi Wildlife Rehab Centre is currently closed PLEASE DONT HOLD ON TO WILDLIFE THAT NEEDS HELP Normal service will be resumed just as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your understanding and support.

13.01.2022 This is what happened today.

13.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Residents. PLEASE, where possible, we ask that you take any wildlife you rescue yourselves directly to either Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital or, Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Once there, follow their health and safety guidelines. ... This is far safer than going to the shops for your groceries, and its safer for our volunteers. We will continue to attend wildlife in bushland, side of the road, open spaces. Please remember, we are all volunteer members of your community and we need to stay safe and well too. Please SHARE THIS INFORMATION Thank you for your support in this difficult time.

11.01.2022 ADELAIDE KOALA RESCUE UPDATE. HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!!!

11.01.2022 WIRES CALLED OUT FOR WITHHOLDING $53M OF PUBLICLY DONATED FUNDS WHILE WILDLIFE CARERS STRUGGLE TO PAY VET BILLS This damning indictment shines a laser spotlight on the ever growing global concern about the donation of $60M to WIRES during the horrific fires. Should there be an inquiry?... Should the Australian Charities Commission step in? Or perhaps an independent auditor or administrator? What is clear, is that people still need help. What are your thoughts? What do you think should happen? Do you think this will damage Australias reputation and impact future fundraising in times of crisis? What do you think about WIRES?

11.01.2022 Wildlife Trauma Season Is Here Stay alert, Keep an eye out and drive We are coming into what is know as trauma season in the wildlife world.... We are seeing a lot more wildlife on the move, the snakes are battling it out for the love of a lady, pythons are wanting to get warm and you may find them on roads, in yards or even your pool filter box. Echidnas are on the move looking to mate and make puggles (baby echidnas). The roos are hopping about for the fresh sprouts of spring. Birds are nesting and singing, baby birds are learning to fly and are a bit wobbly at times. In the last two days alone we have seen over 20 snakes dead on our roads, 8 Ibis hit by cars along the motorway and sadly more. Everything is moving. Do you know what to do if you find an injured animal? A baby bird? A snake? Sometimes we see animals and think to ourselves, ah it will be right. Please dont. Please call us if you find animal hurt or baby animals so that we can check them over at Australia Zoo, Twinnies or Eumundi Wildlife and get them any help they may need. Our goal is to get animals out of pain and back in to the wild as quickly as possible when we can. Please #1 make sure you are safe. Do not touch a dangerous or venomous animal. Call us Please #2 use hazard lights and be mindful of busy roads to keep yourself safe. Check the animal is alive, if it is, call us WRSC - 0458682152 We are open 24/7 If you think the animal is dead. Double check Once confirmed dead, check the pouch of roos, wallabies, possums, koalas, bandicoots and gliders. If there is a joey. Call us asap Please do not play, touch or interfere with the animals. Alive and hurt animals are stressed. Stay calm. And please, please LOCK UP YOUR CATS! We are 24/7 so please call us for any rescues and one of our friendly team will be out to you as quickly as possible. Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast - 0458 682 152

09.01.2022 Have you ever seen a cuter Mum and Bub? Being in the middle of our wildlife trauma season we have had a fairly tough few weeks, lots of animals needing help and many who sadly don’t make it. So here’s a happy Tawny story for your Saturday ... This tawny chick was on the ground the other day, she had fallen from the nest which put her at immediate risk to foxes, birds of prey and the big lizards! A lovely member of the public had contacted us and one of our amazing hotliners was able to talk them through how to create a nest that was stable and safe for the bub. We received a message this morning with the results and they have gone above and beyond for these birds and made the tawny’s a perfect safe landing and nest box. They went around and collected sticks to put in the box, a wonderful snuggly and safe place for them. They were very concerned the chick would be taken by foxes or other predators on the property and were not sure what to do because the temporary nest they made first fell back out. So they called us to ask what they could do to help. Both parents and chick have been up in the nest safe and happy Team work for the animals at it’s finest! We can’t do the work we do without you To the members of public, the eyes on the ground. Thank you

06.01.2022 Please don’t keep wild baby birds, they aren’t your friends and they need their parents. Please don’t put them on your shoulder for a selfie as they are very fragile and could fall and die. The bird needs to be reunited with its parents or taken to a professional carer. 06.01.2022 The fire destruction of K’gari (Fraser Island) is hard to comprehend. This was a deliberately lit, illegal fire. No one can go though another season of our country burning. ... Be fire smart. Report any suspicious activity. Be vigilant. Australia will take decades to recover from the fires at the end of last year through to February this year. The loss of wildlife? Populations may never recover.

06.01.2022 WE ARE FOR WILDLIFE - ALL WILDLIFE We abhor 1080 poison. Its cruel, painful and barbaric. We dont support mass shooting of brumbies and whaler horses from helicopters. This is not ethical nor is it good species management. ... We do not support the use of barbaric, legal leg traps. If you dont agree that ALL WILDLIFE, ALL ANIMALS have the right to be treated humanely, then please unfollow us. All the cat haters, the pig shooters, the fox baiters, the brumbie shooters, and anyone else who thinks just because a species is non native means it doesnt matter how its treated, please unfollow us because you have no place here. The biggest scourge on this planet and the biggest threat to ALL WILDLIFE, is US. You, me and the rest of the Homo sapiens. We are the ONLY species that destroys our own environment - to the point where it will become unsustainable. When we dont interfere with nature, she regulates species populations. Weve demonised the dingo, we eradicated the Thylacine and we have the audacity to blame other animals for the problems weve created. Hello Renee, We are advocates of responsible pet ownership. But do not support the actions of cat haters. We support sustainable species management, but not indiscriminate poisoning, trapping and shooting. We are for the preservation and sustainability of our wildlife, but do not support cruel methods of non native species destruction. Domestic and farm animals have significantly more legislated rights than our native wildlife. We are advocates and defenders of rights for wildlife. There is no place for cruelty on any level. We have often talked about the human responsibility of stewardship in regard to domestic, farmed and wild animals. The buck stops with US. We do not advocate that its ok to let domestic pets roam. We advocate that cats should be indoors, have cat enclosures, use harnesses for outside time. We advocate dogs should sleep indoors if possible. Pets that roam also become victims to car strikes, theft, baiting activities, poisoning by 1080 etc Animals left outside at night can be victim to snake bites, temperature changes, and of course can prey on wildlife. Some of us have worked at animal shelters that rehabilitate abandoned cats and dogs. We have seen first hand the lack of responsibility demonstrated by some members of the community. Heres a question; why would we give so much of our time over to preserving and rescuing wildlife if we are advocating for the halt on all non native species management? We arent. We are advocating measured, ethical management and the abandonment of barbaric, cruel methodologies currently legislated. So, if you are an armchair expert on all things feral and lack serious compassion and are blinded by your own BS, goodbye.

03.01.2022 Meet Sparkle, the Blue Faced Honeyeater who likes to live life to the fullest .....and scariest! A few nights ago the Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast team were called to a rescue for a bird caught on a power line. It was cold.... ....dark... .......and it was peak hour traffic. An amazing rescuer on our team headed out promptly to assess the situation and see what needed to be done. Power lines are tricky... Roads are hectic.... Peak hour makes things harder... ....And a bird with fishing line who has tied itself to a power line, over a bridge, at peak hour... Nearly bloody impossible. The Blue Faced Honeyeater is a favourite Australian bird of ours because they rarely build their own nests. They are more into renovations and usually spruce up a Babbler or Apostlebirds nest Smart little things! Not this one though, Sparkle got himself tangled in fishing line and then got twisted on the power line and couldnt get off. The line was tying him down and he was unable to break free. Obviously these birds dont have teeth to chew through tough fishing line so this was a really bad situation for him. Our amazing rescue team was on to it and immediately got on the phone to Energex (power company) who were incredible. They were already working overtime and yet they made their way to the Coast, organised traffic control who drove an hour to get to Sparkle and it was all teams a go! Fists were clenched as the Energex guy was lifted towards the bird on the wire, obviously frightened Sparkle was flapping around and everyone was very nervous. Slowly but surely the amazing crew were able to grab Sparkle and free the wire from his feet! Hoorayyyy!!! Sparkle was then take to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for some much needed rest, a cuppa tea and a biscuit after his adventure ......Meaning, a once over, fluids and a good quality vet check to make sure he was ok to be released. We are extremely happy to report he was free to go the next day and boy was he glad to get home! Youll see his release in the video below! Our rescuer Leanne was out from 6pm and got home after 11pm What a champ! Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast is an amazing organisation who will do whatever it takes and organise whatever is needed to help an animal in need. A huge, huge thank you to Energex, Traffic Control and Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for the amazing part you play in supporting our local wildlife! And finally, THANK YOU to the public who keep on eye on our furry, feathered and scaly locals and call for help when you see one injured or distressed. We cant save the thousands of animals we do without the eyes on the ground from all of you! A big thank you to YOU! Fly free Sparkle and stay away from fishing line! Ps: Fisherman... take your tackle home! Save our phone number in your phone now 0458 682 152. We are 24/7! Save it

02.01.2022 SELLING AUSTRALIA BY THE KILO! The extract below appeared in this mornings Daily. A LONG-RUNNING community battle to overturn Sunshine Coast Council's approval of the controversial Sekisui House Yaroomba development proposal has been lost.... The Planning and Environment Court in a 100-page judgment handed down by Judge Kefford dismissing an appeal by Development Watch Inc and Sunshine Coast Environment Court. The development application is now expected to be approved with conditions. The judgement dismissed concerns about the impact of light on nesting turtles on Yaroomba Beach, after hearing evidence from Dr John Thorogood, a marine ecologist and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Dr Thorogood told the court only about four per cent of the Australian population of loggerhead turtles nested across all the beaches of the Sunshine Coast. He gave evidence more than 80 per cent of nesting beaches used by loggerhead turtles in Queensland were within national parks. "Whilst protecting endangered turtle populations is critical, it's important that as a community, we focus our conservation efforts where they'll be most use," Dr Thorogood said after the judgement was handed down. "Planning decisions need to be made on objective evidence and fact, rather than emotion - and that's what we see the Court has decided in this matter. QUESTION: Why was only one opinion considered regarding the impact on the nesting turtles? Why didnt the court seek multiple opinions to factor out any potential bias? Based on this singular opinion the court has handed down a judgement and failed to listen to its OWN PEOPLE in favour of an INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMPANY. Why are we continuing to allow overseas investment giants to purchase chunks of our valuable land? (Extract from SCDaily - Bill Hoffman article 26.5.20 - photo courtesy of same publication)

01.01.2022 Super Koala says Its time to hang out in your own gum tree for a while. However tough things might get, and god knows Australia has copped more than its fair share in the last 6 months, we can get through these uncertain times. However tough it gets, remember we are a nation of resilient people. But we are also steeped in deep bonds of mateship - thats the spirit of Australia. ... We dont leave anyone behind. We take care of each other, especially when times are tough. Please remember that when you go shopping - Australians take care of each other, make sure youve got your mates back, lets be selfless rather than selfish. Thats the Australian way.
