19.01.2022 A massive thank you to everyone involved making yet another project possible. We are always very proud to be part of helping to keep our wildlife safe.

19.01.2022 Australia’s first peer reviewed study on virtual fencing technology, proving the reduction in wildlife vehicle collisions by as much as 50% A huge win for wildlife conservation and increased road safety. A massive thank you to everyone involved. Special thanks to the lead author Dr Samatha Fox, all staff at Arthur River National Park, Circular Head Council and The Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife.

19.01.2022 Some science confirming what diligent kangaroo observers know about the extirpation of their own urban-edge Eastern Grey Kangaroos. This study [Brunton 2018] f...ound: EGK populations have declined in abundance in SE Queensland region since 2000 There is evidence some areas have suffered local #extinctions Vehicles were the major cause At one study site: From 2010 to 2016 the minimum number of kangaroos known to be alive decreased from 84 to 16 (72%) From 2014-2016 the maximum number of adults declined from 23 to 15 Vehicle collisions killing 33-38% of the total number of #kangaroos known to be alive in each year. We know this is happening around Bathurst and on Mount Panorama as edge habitats continue to be developed and traffic increases.

13.01.2022 Not sure virtual fencing would work for this, however we could always try!

11.01.2022 For those of you in Tassie, did you see these being tested on roads near you? This 'Virtual Fence' system was tested in Tasmania to reduce the rate of road kill.... It involves installing alarm units at 25 metre intervals along the edge of a road. When the alarms detect a car, they emit sirens and flashing lights so that animals will be discouraged from approaching the highway. In one study it reduced roadkill by 50%! See more

11.01.2022 Glad to announce another trial. Stay tuned for results in the near future.

10.01.2022 Now I’m sure most of you have heard ,however it is official. Virtual fencing does reduce road kill significantly. Very proud to announce that there is a white paper published with results proving the reduction in roadkill. Follow the link for full details. https://www.wildlifesafetysolutions.com.au/ams-publication

09.01.2022 Great to see another road kill hot spot being treated with Virtual Fencing! Well done to all involved in getting much needed help to the local animal population.

07.01.2022 Thanks to the 1,695 people who have downloaded the Roadkill TAS app in the last couple of weeks, over 2,800 roadkill reports have been logged to date!! Remember... the Roadkill TAS app is free and allows you to report roadkill incidents easily with the tap of a button. Data is collected in real-time and will help us understand where roadkill hotspots are for a variety of wildlife species. Knowing where roadkill hotspots are located in Tasmania will assist road managers to develop adaptive management and mitigation techniques to try to reduce the amount of roadkill on Tasmanian roads. But everyone can help reduce the number of animals being killed on our roads by taking care while driving at night and slowing down between dusk and dawn. The Roadkill TAS app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes and Google Play stores. More information about the Roadkill Tas app (including important safety messages) can be found here at http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/roadkillapp
