16.01.2022 Australia’s environment and biodiversity protection laws are up for a 10 year review and an interim report has found that that our current laws are failing to p...rotect our environment and wildlife. The Government has ignored their own report and is now fast-tracking a bill which will devolve environmental approval powers to states and territories. We can’t let our unique and precious wildlife be erased. This Bill heads to the Senate in early October. Please get involved and stand up for Australia’s wildlife and environment now. 06.01.2022 A sad week for Victoria. The platypus has been officially added to our threatened species list as ‘vulnerable’. Human population growth, urban sprawl, droughts ...and now climate change have impacted the waterways where they live. The announcement came with some initial funding to start restoring habitat, but we need sustained action to protect the species in the long-term. We’re calling for amendments to The Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act so habitat declarations and conservation orders are made mandatory. You can also help by taking part in the ‘Great Victorian Platypus Search’. Download the app and collect water samples so scientists know exactly how many are left and where they live. http://platypusspot.org/ Read more in The Age today >> https://www.theage.com.au//victorians-urged-to-help-scient (Photo by Doug Gimesy Photography, who also put in the threatened species application...thank you!)
