25.01.2022 Hands up if your kid bounces out of bed at turbo speed before the sun is even up Once his eyes are open he talks non stop until bedtime. Is it bedtime yet? Ticking off garden for #autumnbingo
25.01.2022 We changed our Autumn table to a Winter table today. We put everything on the ground and then decide what gets put away and what gets to go back on the table. I really like the pack away snap shot. Oh Autumn youve got my heart
25.01.2022 Solstice sun, shining bright Shortest day, longest night Solstice wish of hope & cheer Spreading our wish throughout the year ... Ice lanterns We filled a bowl with water sequins, beads, crystals, flowers and some shells it was a bit of a random collection Then put jar with some rice or something to weight in down in the centre. Pop into the freezer overnight and it creates a beautiful ice lantern. We will definitely be doing this again! It was so much fun Inspired by @_dimity_
24.01.2022 When you realise youve made your child a pagan alter Looks like you take the girl out of the 90s but you cant take the Wicca out of girl! Thanks #buffy #charmed #thecraft I didnt have a huge plan for The Four Elements #natureplaymay other than setting this up on our learning tree stump.(yep thats a thing) We chatted about each element and Oskar was fascinated by the fire. He immediately wanted to know what happens when you combine elements and started by lighting little sticks ( supervised ) and putting them in the water, sand & earth. He checked the direction of the wind with the air wand, connected items to their matching elements and tried some letter recognition but he was busting to drive his toy bulldozer through all the sand so thats what he did
23.01.2022 You cant spell FUNGI without FUN #natureplaymay Today was spent mushroom spotting in a pine forest followed by bees wax sculpting. So much time was spent this afternoon creating as many wax mushrooms as we could from @littleoaklearnings fungi resources and using pictures of the mushrooms spotted on the walk as a guide. We use collected nature finds with the modelling wax to create a scene. ... Dont forget to follow along with our co-hosts @growing.kind @muddly_puddly @the.cheeky.barnes @raising_her_barefoot For lots of great nature play inspiration See more
22.01.2022 Bamboo fine motor skill set looking fine Shop link in bio Oskar has really taken to the tongs from this set and has been sleeping with them under his pillow. Do you have a kid/s that get overly attached to random objects ?
22.01.2022 Prepping for tomorrows learning about Rockpools. We are using the absolutely beautiful resources made by Jill @the_little_oak_learning The tactile resin learning board my Mum made Oskar with things from the beach where they live and a box of nature exchange goodies from @2little_lims which we love. Eeek I cant wait to let Oskar at this in the morning.
17.01.2022 Im into recycling .... so Im recycling #natureplayseptember from 2 years ago. Call BINGO when you get it and tag #natureplaybingo so we can all be inspired And Bonus apparently in 2018 I was so organised that I made a Autumn slightly different version for our Northern Hemisphere friends >> Free Printable bingo download on the BLOG >> link in bio
16.01.2022 Looks like our moth wishes from the other night worked Nature is pure magic and delivered this beautiful creature to our back door this morning. We gently coaxed him onto this leaf and moved him to somewhere a little safer. This is either a male White Stemmed Wattle Moth Or a Felders Line Moth. The males are more likely to be attracted to light which I accidentally left on... so maybe I subconsciously helped Mother Nature with this magic
16.01.2022 Ive added these beauties to the website tonight. The dual magnifying glass with wrist strap is our go to for nature walks and these magnifying bug boxes are not just for bugs! They make pretty great crystal & fossils boxes too! ........ and I just noticed our centipede lost a leg in there ticking off creature for #autumnbingo
16.01.2022 Ive waited nearly a year to dip autumn leaves in wax #natureplaymay I first saw this when @lacy.arrowsmith made a beautiful garland using waxed autumn leaves and I was in love! By the time I got it together to do ours there werent any autumn leaves left. Ive been patiently waiting on our Maple tree to her thing & Im so excited we go to do this today This is how we did ours;... Melt beeswax - Ive melted 1 beewax block and the end of a beeswax candle. I melted the wax in a enamel pan on the top of our wood fire. Dont do this I use this enamel pan all the time and now its coated in wax like what did I think was going to happen!! Haha learn from me use a pan or dish youre not planning on eating out of. Melt the wax to a liquid. No need to over heat it. The wax will cool quickly so there is a child safe window of a few minutes time when its the perfect temp for dipping. We did a few reheats to get all the leaves. Dip leaves into the wax and allow to drip back into the pan and then lay on some bake paper to dry. If youve done this and have any tips I would love to hear them
14.01.2022 Our home learning space is tucked into the corner of our dining room. Its the smallest room in the house but I think this little room holds the most joy. It has the best view of the maple tree. A dining table that has witnessed celebrations and sadness and is often my home photo studio, art centre and pre-school. A lot of our books live in this room. When we ran out of space we put the chairs and baskets up on the walls. So this is about as clean as it gets. Looks like Im never going to be a minimalist but I think mess can still be pretty...well at least thats what I tell myself
14.01.2022 Geology Discovery Dig Kits are back There are real crystals inside a hammer & chisel for excavation. There is also a fossil, some peacock ore and a natural agate slice. These kits are great with the dual magnifying glass https://www.wildmountainchild.com.au/
13.01.2022 Frozen Berry Tie Dye #natureplaymay I was inspired to use berries after I saw the idea via @rebeccadesnos please note her berry dye looks much more civilised than ours and she didnt use a pack of mixed berries straight out of the freezer ... I tried to find instructions but a certain little boy was talking at me non stop so I just whinged the whole thing haha Things I should have done was pre-treat the fabric so it held the dye better. We ended up with fast results but I think they would have been better if Id done this step first. I used 1.5 cup of mixed frozen berries to 2 cups of water. Boiled the berries in the water for 10 minutes and then sat to cool. I poured the berry water into another container and we strained the whole berries through a sieve. I needed more dye and was racing a kid with a spoon who was playing paint one eat one with the mix. The result are super fast so this is an activity that could be done in 30mins it would be better if they could soak for hours in the dye but if thats not on your kids timeline. Good results are still achievable with 10 mins in the dye. I love how rich the colour is. We used the coles brand mixed berries See more

12.01.2022 This cutie has the most amazing fluff ball hair do! Kookaburra friend has been hanging out in our garden all week OR Penguin-burra he kinda looks like a baby penguin just sitting there! There is a lot of Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree being sung at our place. Oskar is convinced the line is Merry, merry king of the bush is free! Instead of Merry, merry king of the bush is he I like Oskars version better
12.01.2022 Anatomy #natureplaymay There is so much learning to be found in something as simple as a lemon. We have a lemon tree in our garden but if youve got one in your fruit bowl youve got an opportunity for play and learning with nature. We started out cutting a lemon using our kiddy cutter knife. Then took a closer look at all the parts of the lemon. ... We used this printable to learn the parts of the lemons anatomy (Its a free download on my website - under Free nature play downloads) We matched the numbered anatomy and extended this using numbered dots. We made lemon playdough and grated some lemon zest in. Then played with our play dough. When life gives you lemons make lemonplay I hope that if nature is not something you have easy access to at the moment that you can still play along this month by getting creative with nature that you may already have indoors See more
12.01.2022 We made Rose & Jasmine Pearl Bath Salts for Nan for Mothers Day and wrapped her gifts in the frozen berry tie dye cloth from the other day Our mix is roughly: 2 cups epsom salt 1 cup pink fine salt ... 1/4 cup Pink rock salt Tablespoon jasmine pearls And a tablespoon of rose petals. 11.01.2022 I thought we could head to the pine forest and make a collage with found objects for todays prompt but the forest floor was the most beautiful nature collage we have ever seen! So we left the creating to Mother Nature #natureplaymay
11.01.2022 We did this activity a few weeks back inspired by Beadie Bug Play dough smash idea. I added the sticker eyes which was a huge hit here. It kind of gives it that whack a mole arcade game vibe The lemon playdough is coloured with turmeric and uses essential oils and lemon zest I wasnt sure how adding lemon zest would last but its still going strong and smells amazing. ... 2 cups of plain flour 1 cup of salt 1 cup of boiling water 2 tablespoons of olive oil 3 tablespoons of cream of tartar 10 drops of lemon essential oils Zest of half a lemon 1-2 teaspoons of turmeric See more
10.01.2022 Magnifying Bug boxes are back in stock! But these beauties are not just for bugs they are great for taking a closer look at crystals and fossils and well yes... a sleeping centipede
10.01.2022 I fell asleep before I shared our Field activity last night and I could have done with sitting in a field alone yesterday. I just wasnt feeling it The day was quickly disappearing and I was still working. I had nothing planned but remembered we have these beautiful Australian bird cards by @bridgetfarmerprintmaker I quickly decided we could do a Field Guide for the Superb Fairy Wren. It ended up being a really nice way to end our day in the garden looking for birds and once it started to get darker or Mozzie hour as we call it. Oskar extended the play inside by getting all his bird toys out and matching them with the cards. #natureplaymay
09.01.2022 Happy 1st day of Spring and Wattle day in Australia I made plans to do some Wattle identification and this gratitude activity from @deerandfawns but we ran out of time this afternoon. It is patiently waiting for us tomorrow. I think past me would have pushed to do it today ( on the 1st ) but future me is chill AF. She knows that tomorrow will still be spring and my little friend will be less likely to have an afternoon meltdown if I give us more space and time to do this together. Im really looking forward to it The gratitude sun activity is a free resource that Melinda has generously made available over at @deerandfawns
08.01.2022 It felt like spring was in the air this weekend and that it was to come out of hibernation I hope everyone is doing okay ? buts it 2020 so Im afraid to ask Early on in lockdown I micromanaged the living fork out of my husband while he made this almost free mud kitchen. I think he absolutely nailed it Pun intended! Oskars favourite colour at the moment is pink so he got a light pink oven door. ... 2 pallets = free. Well... I hope they were @hazelbrook_cottage_antiques I took them off your nature strip a few months back. Most everything is second hand and repurposed, found on the side of the road or from the op-shop. The oven door handle is a @qtoysaustralia wooden block. There are lots of reclaimed hooks and scraps of timber used I think the only thing we purchased new were hinges. Swipe for the plan we used to make this happen #mudkitchen #freemudkitchen #makeyourownmudkitchen See more
08.01.2022 Prepping for a Birthday next week and I found pictures of the goody bags from Oskars birthday party last year. (There was a giant chocolate freckle in here but I ate it ) Thinking of all the kids missing out on birthday celebrations this year because of COVID. I hope that when this is all over there will be a magical run of parties that will last a whole year. A year of fairy bread and jumping castles
07.01.2022 Last night trying to attract a Moth for #natureplaymay
07.01.2022 Magnify + Energy #natureplaymay My low energy setup. On the days when Im not feeling it. I grab a bunch of nature finds, crystals, flowers, some beautiful scoops and a magnifying glass. I arrange them in a new way. I make it look pretty. Something I would want to sit down and play with myself. The pretty is important. Sure it looks good in a photo but its my way of communicating to my child that I value this play or learning experience. Then I let him completely mess it... up Some parents cook or draw, some are healers, some sing, some do good hair, some read, some clean, some play sports, some pack a winner lunchbox and do good snacks, some hug like a bear. Nature play and visuals is my thing. We are all just doing the best we can with the skills we have
07.01.2022 Today is World Naked Gardening Day! Nobody was brave enough to go naked in our garden today. The wind was about 35km/hr and it was 5.... but heres a rainbow garden bouquet picked fully clothed to celebrate #natureplaymay Flower for #sensoryplaymay #worldnakedgardeningday ... See more
06.01.2022 Spring Starflowers and other signs in the garden that warmer weather is approaching. Despite the arctic winds and predicted snow for this weekend. Mulberries are forming, our seriously wild magnolia tree is about to burst with purple goodness. The first peach blossoms on good ol peachy bears no fruit are visible and we are surrounded by wattle. Whats your gardening secret to growing a patch of spring starflowers in the lawn, you ask? Its neglect I dont know how they got there or when they were planted but we do nothing and every year they come back
06.01.2022 We love a good animal stack at our place. I thought this photo was a good size comparison between Ostheimier (left) and Holztiger (right) wooden toys. It was completely innocent when we were stacking them but then I looked at the picture tonight and started giggling. I dont think that magpie is too happy about being so close to the finchs bum Anyway heres hoping your day was more toucan then penguin

04.01.2022 Flat stones are great for little crystal lovers. They are smooth and really comforting to hold onto. Ive been walking around with an onyx flat stone in my hands for days - Who even am I ? I just felt like I needed to hold it. Pretty sure I have reached next level hippie status with that confession! My inner nineties teen is so proud right now This photo jumped out at me today and then I read the meaning of Malachite. "The stone of transformation" ... Malachite is a stone of balance, abundance, manifestation and intention. An extremely powerful metaphysical stone, Malachite is often called the stone of transformation and is used for deep energy cleaning, bringing healing and positive transformation to the wearer.
