20.01.2022 Detox your home month Living in this modern world we are sadly surrounded by toxins every day. These toxins are in our air, our homes, our personal care products, and even in our food. It’s not possible to avoid these toxins completely but we can reduce our exposure and help our body to eliminate them, rather than have them build up in our system.... Detoxifying is crucial for everyone because studies show that many chemicals we are exposed to in everyday life are carcinogens, neurotoxins, and endocrine disruptors (interfere with our hormones). Exposure to these chemicals is so common that, according to research, 95% of people have endocrine-disrupting chemicals in their bodies! This ladies can lead to reproductive disease and infertility. The air inside our homes is up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, so let's get on top of how we can make little changes to improve our health. Below is a couple of plants that will help detox your home and purify your air: Snake plant The aloe plant Boston fern Golden pothos- I love me a pothos English Ivy. Hedera helix Our bodies have an amazing ability to cope with an excess toxic load but due to the large number of toxins in our environment, we sometimes need to give it a little helping hand, my end goal is to have a mini jungle at home. 17.01.2022 Why I Don’t Recommend Elevit Elevit is advertised as an OTC preconception, prenatal and postnatal supplement to support women through the different stages of pregnancy. During the preconception, pregnancy and postpartum phases, there is an increased need for specific nutrients that diet alone may not always be able to meet and therefore supplementation can support the process. Elevit is a low dose, OTC product that does not contain some of the nutrients essential to pregnancy...Continue reading
15.01.2022 Wild Oak's Preconception Care Program At present, it is estimated that 1 in 6 couples are infertile. These statistics are staggering, and unfortunately on the rise each year. It is thought that many of these issues are related to a Western lifestyle that has deteriorated rapidly. We live in a ‘toxic’ society. Environmental pollution, polluted water, toxic farming methods, chemicals, radiation, heavy metals are frequent problems. Nutrient levels in the soil are poor, we live... a sedentary lifestyle and don’t compensate with adequate exercise. Processed foods are high in our diets. Add onto this the stress of progress and it becomes obvious as to why our modern lifestyle is affecting fertility levels. To optimise our egg and sperm fertility health we require 90 days. Wild Oak Preconception Care Program is a 14 week program that covers: Monitoring basal body temperature and cervical mucus to pinpoint ovulation Blood tests, semen analysis and other medical pathology tests which are used to personalise individual treatment programs Screening for essential trace elements (eg. zinc & iron) and for toxic metals. Exercising regularly, reducing stress, thinking positively. Treating reproductive and fertility problems in both prospective parents detoxifying. Treating any underlying health issues that may have an impact on pregnancy and conception health. Treating infections, inflammation and root causes of poor health Assessing any functional pathology tests what you will recieve: 5 x Conception Care Naturopathy consultations + ongoing email and phone support 2 x Fertility/ Preconception Care Massages Nutritional and herbal medicine supplements for both partners (Basic prenatal supplements for both males and females, please be aware depending on your current health conditions other supplements may be required). 14.01.2022 Ladies, all you Mumma's out there who give so much of yourselves to everyone around you (your work, your clients, your family, your friends) Don't forget to give to yourself. Sundays are my recentre days where I focus on giving back to myself. I take this day a little slower and I enjoy all the little things, not caring so much about the washing, the cleaning, the cooking and I try to be present and grounded with my family. If my glass is only half full then how can I poor ...all my goodness to everyone around me? Learn to set boundaries, learn to switch off and learn to share the workload (even with the kids), and learn to give yourself what you give to others. xx And if all this seems overwhelming, you feel exhausted all the time, then let's work on supporting you to get to a place of relaxation and self-care. Happy Sunday :)
14.01.2022 Miscarriage and Naturopathic Support Sadly miscarriages are very common in the first few weeks of pregnancy and studies show that up to one in five women, who know they are pregnant, will have a miscarriage before 20 weeks. Most of these happen in the first 12 weeks. A naturopath will investigate and identify any underlying factors, while considering all other potential risks, and take any other factors into consideration (such as gestational age at the time of miscarriage)..., to understand the whole picture. Only then can a highly individualised treatment plan can be created to bring the body back into a state of balance and optimise pregnancy outcomes. This is achieved via highly specific dietary changes, nutritional and herbal medicine support, and lifestyle changes. Although miscarriage can be an incredibly complex issue, a Naturopath can help you dig deeper to find the answers you need to improve your health, bring your body back into balance, and give you the best possible chance at a successful, full-term pregnancy. 13.01.2022 Coming off the pill can cause symptoms that can qualify you for a PCOS diagnosis but how does this happen The pill suppresses ovulation, so when you come off it, it can sometimes takes months or years to start up again. When you come off a pill such as Yaz or Brenda-35, you can get a surge in androgens which is often temporary.... The pill can also cause or worsen insulin resistance, which is an underlying driver of PCOS. The difference with post-pill PCOS compared to other types of PCOS, is that it is usually temporary! If your periods were normal before you went on the pill, this means you may not have the underlying genetic tendency of the ovary to overproduce androgens that the other types of PCOS have I have seen this first hand with many of my clients who have regained their periods and reduced their androgens by correcting nutrient deficients, regulating ovulation again. The pill is a synthetic hormone made to shut down your natural reproductive hormones and put a bandaid over the issues at hand. If your periods haven’t returned post-pill and you aren’t sure if you have PCOS or not, book in with a Naturopath we are here to get to the root cause of your health issues, not hide it from you. Have you been given a PCOS diagnosis after coming off the pill? I’d love hear your story . .
10.01.2022 Seed cycling for hormonal health Seed cycling is a natural way to balance your hormones via food during different phases of your cycle. It sounds a little out there, but it can be very beneficial (and I’ve had great success with it). Unfortunately, many women struggle with a difficult menstrual cycle. From painful periods, cramps, fatigue, bloating, acne, body aches, breast soreness, irregular cycles, PMS, heavy or light bleeding, infertility, and more. These symptoms are not...Continue reading
07.01.2022 Have you ever questioned if your bleed is normal or heavy? I see women in my clinic daily that think their menstruation is normal but when we get down to the bottom of it, we find out in fact their flow can be heavier than what is classed as normal. A normal monthly bleed is anywhere up to 80 mls. ... One soaked regular pad or tampon holds 5 mls. A super tampon holds 10 mls. So, 80 mls over your period will equate to 16 fully soaked regular tampons, or 8 fully soaked super-tampons over all the days of the period. Women can lose up to 500mls of blood (2 cups) in one month, it is so important to get to the root cause of this issue and to support their iron levels. Heavy Bleeds How Can Naturopaths Help Get a medical diagnosis for you to rule out Anovulation, endometriosis, uterine polyps, infection, adenomyosis or fibroids. Address thyroid and check for under activity Enhance estrogen detoxification. Estrogen is normally cleared through your liver and bowel. Address your diet to incorporate phytoestrogens to make your period lighter. Phytoestrogens compete with stronger endogenous estrogens and therefore reduce estrogen stimulation of the uterine lining. Address your iodine levels- iodine down-regulates estrogen receptors in the breasts and uterus and reduces the thickness of the uterine lining. Support Iron ferritin stores, support energy production. Support your progesterone production through diet/ lifestyle, and supplements. Have your back with many different tools to support you bring your body back into balance. You don't need to just put up with heavy periods, Naturopaths are a great support system to bring you back into balance again.

05.01.2022 PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a common hormone problem that can affect fertility and make it more difficult to have a baby. The symptoms of PCOS including irregular or no periods, along with a documented increase in the risk of miscarriage, mean the chance of getting pregnant naturally is lower if you have PCOS, and you should seek medical guidance for advice and support. PCOS Fertility Treatment There are a number of options available, depending on the main issue you a...re experiencing. Weight loss in PCOS can be frustrating for women because the higher levels of androgen hormones, herbal medicine, and nutriceuticals along with exercise and dietary changes have a significant positive impact. Mainstream health professionals will use supportive drugs such as Metformin which is an Insulin sensitisers, or Clomiphene (Serophene or Clomid) can stimulate the ovaries and even injectable drugs (FSH) can be used, IVF treatment may sometimes be necessary depending on your situations. All drugs have side effects and can place an imbalance on the body. A naturopath can address your PCOS symptoms with a natural approach that will assist to bring your body back into balance again along with working alongside your health professional. Testing for PCOS can include an ultrasound scan, which can indicate the presence of many small follicles. Blood tests are the best approach which can reveal changes, with higher levels of androgens and LH (often in conjunction with a higher LH to FSH ratio) than women with normal cycles. Blood tests may also indicate a change in blood glucose and insulin levels. If you are trying or considering becoming pregnant and you are experiencing these symptoms, I recommend booking in with a Naturopath who can assist you with finding the root cause of your health conditions and can assist you in bringing your body back into balance with a natural supportive approach.
