24.01.2022 Its puggle making time! We are literally tripping over echidnas in the bush, the paddock and the gardens as the season for echidna trains starts! The echidna females can be followed by trains of males hopeful to mate, one of natures intriguing phenomenons.
24.01.2022 Gorgeous Minnie the sugar glider is growing up fast! Now halfway grown shes still very shy but loving real food! She was rather minuscule when she came in after her mum was found dead in a backyard. With closed eyes and ears and no fur she started off on 0.2ml milk feeds every 3 hours, now 2 months on she is fighting fit and full of attitude.
24.01.2022 We at wild on wildlife would like to thank everyone who has found animals and brought them into the biloela vets or rang our mobile number (0475774811) for us to collect. If it wasnt for the caring public we wouldnt be able to save as many animals as we do. So thank you.
24.01.2022 Some GREAT advice from Wildlife Victoria - please dont kidnap fledgling birds, this is so much better!
24.01.2022 This little guy is a pale headed Rosella who was found on the road. He was taken to the Callide Valley Vets by caring people where he received much needed pain relief, antibiotics and emergency hydration. We suspect he fell out of the nest and was picked on by other birds. He is feeding well and gaining weight at carer Mandys place
22.01.2022 Another kingfisher at carer Mandys house. He was brought home by a cat luckly he only suffered a few scratches so he will be released after a few days of rest.
22.01.2022 FREEE!! This is what makes it all worthwhile. After 6 months in care what was a little slightly spiky sunburnt bundle of muscle found wandering aimlessly in the middle of a hot day on a cattle pad, has now been released! Happy as larry instantly fossicking for termites and ant larvae.
21.01.2022 Little Penny the Brush Tail Possum has come a long way from when Carer Mandy took her into care...She has been a very sick little girl. Penny weighed 150 grams 45 days ago now she is 196 grams and doing very well! Great news Carer Mandy she is such a cutie! You do a great job with these little ones
20.01.2022 Claude the cookatoo has been successfully released. Carer mandy opened his cage and he flew out into the garden then flew away with other cookatoos that have been hanging around her place since she had Claude in the cage on the front verandah.
20.01.2022 Wildlife conservationist, Rob Brewster says its time we give our native Aussie animals as much love as we do our pets! #TLC Via Rewilding Australia
19.01.2022 "Sunny" the puggle, (baby echidna) was so sunburnt on arrival 2 months ago, after being found in the middle of the day wandering aimlessly on a cattle track. She was a little pink baby just getting spikes, and should have been snuggled away in a burrow, under a tussock of grass, or a hollow or rock. All her skin eventually peeled and as she was growing little spikes, she had to be scratched with a toothbrush to remove the dead skin, which she loved! She is fighting fit and drinks 150ml once every 3 days now, turning into a pear at every feed. This is normal, their mums will leave them for longer than this in a wild situation. They are divine little characters. Share if you agree!
18.01.2022 Awww hes in great hands now!
18.01.2022 Meet "Dotty" the plover. When Dotty came in a couple of months ago he was tiny little one day old fluff ball found in the middle of the road. At the time we thought it may be a dotterol water-bird but soon realised we were growing way too quickly! We are nearing release after a few hiccups along the way.
17.01.2022 Elvis" the sugar glider took a little while to de-humanise after being in care from just 35 grams. But he soon learnt to hunt and forage for blossoms, insects, fruit and nectars and has been released and seen again on a couple of occasions when he decides to come home.
15.01.2022 It is puggle (baby) season. At this time of year it is terribly important echidnas are relocated close by in a safer spot in case they have a puggle hidden away somewhere, so they are able to still find it! This beauty was rescued by a member of the public, in a town yard being harrassed by a dog. This is becoming quite common as their habitat is destroyed and they adapt and find new home ranges. Often echidna mums will only return to feed their young every 3-5 days once they... become prickly, prior to this she creates a fold of her amazing ab muscles to carry her little pink blob around to keep it safe while it is still blind, pink and helpless. Dogs get terribly excited and neurotic over echidnas due to their odour, please always check the surrounding yard if this occurs to make sure mum hasnt dropped a little pink bundle, if so please call before touching! 07.01.2022 Little pam weighs 273 grams. She was found in a paddock by workers next to her mother who was killed. They brought her to carer mandy who is caring for her after she was check over and given a clean bill of health from the biloela vet clinic.
06.01.2022 Butchy was hand reared by a member of the public before being dropped at the vet clinic - as Butch has been so imprinted on by the well-meaning person he may be flying wild and free but refuses to be weaned and prefers human company! (This is why we try not to imprint on them). So we are met every morning at the door asking for a tit bit of food, ride around on shoulders, play in the washing while you are hanging it out, ride the motorbike and are just a general scally-wag! Keep an eye out for Butchy posts!
06.01.2022 Meet Claude the cookatoo he is in care after being brought into the biloela vets. He was found along the highway between Biloela and Gladstone on the side of the highway with an injured wing. Not sure what happened to him. Carer mandy will have him until his wing has healed then he will be released.
