24.01.2022 This week's iconic image "Natural Intent". Following the graphite drawings of elephants, this one is drawn using coloured pencils. Do you prefer the graphite or the coloured drawing?

23.01.2022 Chris spent most of his working life on the land managing sheep stations. He knows sheep and dogs! What do you think of the action in this drawing? do you feel as if you are watching the action?!! I think it is amazing how he has them both watching each other!!

22.01.2022 An Australian drawing of the Tasmanian Devil, what do you think of this iconic image?

22.01.2022 "Dugga Boy" The African buffalo was often regarded by the old hunters as the most dangerous of the Big Five and I have endeavoured to portray the bull in this drawing with an air of authority and a creature not to be meddled with. His alert pose is further enhanced by the redbilled oxpecker flying off his nose in alarm from some perceived danger. These birds have evolved stiff tail feathers which are used as props as they clamber all over their hosts seeking parasites from every nook and cranny. They are commonly seen in association with giraffe, antelope, domestic cattle and buffalo. This graphite pencils drawing with a touch of colour gives another insight into Chris skill with his pencils. What do you think this combination? This drawing was based on an experience we had on the lower Zambezi River!

21.01.2022 In the Chris McClelland Gallery in Hay NSW This is a short video I took of his drawing Conflict on the Saltbush Plains. I am showing the small rough he drew to get the proportions right. He made a plasticine kangaroo which he moved around when drawing to help as well. Enjoy this clip! #chrismcclellandwildprints #chrismcclellandgallery #wildlifedrawing

12.01.2022 Thank you to our Hay Shire for supporting local businesses this Christmas and beyond.

10.01.2022 "Sovereignty in Peril" is drawing that came out of the experience below in 1994 when we viewed the mountain gorilla family in Zaire, "In August 1995, Marcel, probably the most famous mountain gorilla since Dian Fosseys Digit, was shot and killed on the fan-slopes where Margie and I and our daughter Miranda first encountered this awesome creature and his family of 24 members in May 1994. In a case of greed, an attempt was made to kidnap for profit a baby male gorilla. Sadly,... the protective nature of this endangered species led to the silverback and the infants mother being shot as well. In this scene, Marcel who is almost twice the weight of his two females looks intently at one of them who dares to return his threatening gaze with a look of nonchalance. While the other female looks on knowingly, the baby gorilla continues eating gallium vine innocently unaware of any adult misdemeanor. During the precious time we had with this group, Marcel in a show of authority, charged and clutched my shoulder. His powerful grip was released when my guide grabbed me under the arms and bodily pulled me backwards to release his grip. It was an intimate moment with the wild and an experience to be remembered with affection!"" Chris words which go with the print. See more
