25.01.2022 a handful of memories from the very first Wildside - back in 2014. There were some incredible stories from that race - it was a big week of adventure Fully Rad Adventures

21.01.2022 It has been a while since we have touched base with our Facebook family and boy there sure has been a lot going on! With regards to this years Wildside Fully Rad Adventures has been watching everything very closely as well as talking with various stakeholders. We have been doing everything we can to make this years race happen, however, in light of the ongoing uncertainty with border closures and ever changing COVID risk management requirements we have decided to cancel thi...s years event. This was not an easy decision to make but we felt it important to make it early so teams have time to readjust and are not caught with wasted annual leave and out of pocket travel and accommodation expenses. We will be back next year - October long weekend 2&3 - stay tuned for the location announcement Teams vying for A1 points there will be details posted soon on a revised Australian Champs structure Stay safe and keep adventuring!

21.01.2022 Like many events across the world Adventure 1 Aus 2020 Series is under going adjustments as Covid-19 is managed. We are adventure racers though and can manage uncertainty and an ever changing environment. Stay tuned for updates.

17.01.2022 Central to adventure racing is navigation - aka getting through the course while locating checkpoints and the best route options - this involves map and landscape reading and of course being able to use a compass. This episode from Adam Rose is part of his series all about adventure racing. It focuses on the parts of a compass and how to use it. Hopefully it will demystify the boogeyman of AR, the single biggest challenge for newcomers to the sport. I think all team members s...hould know the basics of navigation, whether they want to be the navigator or not. Fully Rad Adventures #wildsideadventure #wildsidear

17.01.2022 Wildside Special Edition UPDATE Fully Rad Adventures has announced a change to this year’s special edition race in June, moving from Nymboida to the spectacular Barrington region. With all that has been happening along the NSW North Coast and in our own backyard we decided it was best to move this years race.... We were looking forward to Nymboida and will continue to plan a Wildside for this beautiful part of the Coffs Coast as it is a great region for adventure racing. The very first Wildside passed through the Barrington region and we have always wanted to head back. Now is a good time for that, especially with recent rains seeing rivers flowing again. On 27/28 June teams of 4 or 2 are invited to tackle the 12, 24 or 36hr courses. Wildside is race three of the 2020 A1 Adventure Racing Series as well as a part of the new A2 Adventure Race Series. The A1 series has point’s events across Australia with the best teams vying for the converted title of 2020 Aus champions. A2 series is designed to grow the sport and teams will be vying for the NSW State title. RaceHQ will be the stunning Riverwood Downs, 3hrs from Sydney and 80min from Newcastle airport. Located on the edge of the Karuah River this is the perfect base to go adventuring from. As well as a range of accommodation options available teams will be able to book a bunkhouse for only $250 per night directly with us (Fully Rad) - each bunk house sleeps 4 - they are basic but comfortable. If you want one get your entry in and drop us a message as there are a limited number available - payment will be at rego. + Teams that have already entered will get a bunkhouse for free. Rego will open the night of Friday 26 June - Races start Saturday 27 June and teams will have until Sunday 28 June to finish. This race will have everything - challenging treks, demanding mountain biking and exciting paddling. The course is rich in history, has a close connection with the nature and is stunningly beautiful. Early bird entries close the end of March but bunkhouses are limited - you need to be entered to secure a bunkhouse deal - lock your spot in now. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/wildside-special-edition-ti Fully Rad Adventures Adventure 1 Riverwood Downs #AdventureRacing #Adventure

15.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that after weighing up all options and watching closely what is happening at the moment WildsideAR Special Edition in June will be not held but rather moved to the October long weekend Wildside date. We know we do not need to go into detail as we are all immersed in COVID-19 and its impacts - suffice to say this decision was made after consultation with key stakeholders and front line medical advice, looking at the potential t...imeline for when we come out the other side as well as practicalities of finalising the event during lock down. The good news is we will be staying in the Barrington region for the October long weekend - 2,3 & 4 October. We have created a great course with a few special bits and for those who raced the very first Wildside, a visit to some favourite spots. RaceHQ will be moving to the township of Barrington. The format will be the same - 3 course options - 12hr, 24hr or 36hr - race start Saturday 6am for 36hr and 12midday for 12hr & 24hr. You can expect forest tracks, rock scrambling, country roads and white water paddling + it will be a little warmer! A1 points will be on offer for the 36hr teams and A2 points for the 12hr & 24hr teams. Entries will open soon but rather than do the usual quick early bird push we will open early entries and keep them open until July 31. If things are tough but you still want to race Wildside drop us a message and we will figure something out to get you in the race. #staysafe #adventureracing Adventure 1 Fully Rad Adventures

10.01.2022 I will be adding this to my library this week - The Ultra Mindset by Travis Macy In his book he gives out 8 simple mental training tips which can help overcome the mental fatigue which is accompanied with the physical fatigue. Endurance races are a microcosm of life; you're high, you're low, in the race, out of the race, crushing it, getting crushed, managing fears, rewriting stories. ... Have you read it?

09.01.2022 With so many events postponing or cancelling and so much flow of information about COVID-19 (some good - some bad) we needed to give you an update on WILDSIDE SPECIAL EDITION. In short - after careful consideration of the current situation, assessment of potential risks, understanding of the measures we can put in place and a number of high level conversations - WildsideSE on 27&28 June is still on. At the event we will introduce measures to mitigate risk and keep entrants an...d the community safe. Your safety is always our number one priority. As you know we are all in uncharted territory so should the situation change we will be in touch. Until then - keep training, take care of each other and be safe Cheers Rich from Fully Rad

08.01.2022 There’s something special about embarking on an adventure into the unknown and really experiencing the outdoors as part of a team. You could kind of see it as essential "soul food". Wildside adventure racing will free your soul as well as benefit your physical, mental and emotional state. Here's 5 cool benefits of doing the Wildside Adventure Race. 1. Spending time outdoors reduces stress... There’s a reason why there’s a smile on the face of an adventure racer at the finish line because they’re happier for it! All the stresses and demands of life disappear when you are immersed in an adventure. 2. Being in the outdoors will rejuvenate your soul One of the best reasons to get adventuring is that it can reinvigorate your mental state. Studies have shown that being in nature can elicit feelings of awe, which can release endorphins and trigger a mental boost. 3. Gain a sense of accomplishment When was the last time you did something truly hard? Do you remember that feeling when you finished? The greater the challenge, the more sense of achievement we feel. 4. The adventure can make you smarter Immersing yourself in the outdoors can increase your higher order cognition in more ways than one. Brain scans taken after exercise showed that the participants had greater and more focused activity in the prefrontal cortex than they did before. 5. Learn new skills The experiences gained from adventure racing will expand your skill set. You might strengthen your negotiation skills improve your non-oral forms of communication, get better at problem solving, become more efficient with time management or stretch your physical or mental aptitude. These are skills that can change the way you live your life at home and will stay with you long after the adventure. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/wildside-special-edition-ti Fully Rad Adventures #ComeAdventure #WildsideAR

06.01.2022 A quick reminder to keep the October long weekend free for Wildside2021 - 1,2&3 October - Friday rego, Saturday and Sunday racing We are currently negotiating with a brand new race location that offers stunning on water options, a hinterland full of mountains and an incredible coastline - once we have confirmation we will open entries. Wildside is proud to be a part of Adventure 1 National Series and this years race will be the final of the 2021 Australian Adventure Racing Championships. Keep training, keep planning - next year is going to be a big year Fully Rad Adventures #adventure #adventureracing #LiveFullyRad #wildsideadventure #adventure1

03.01.2022 The Wildside Adventure Race will reconnect you with your wild side - that part of you that longs for open space, freedom and is raw and powerful. It’s easy to lose touch with that side of ourselves with the business of life - work, family, commitments, bills - with that 'always on call' feeling When we lose touch with our wild side, we lose something precious. Something that turns our life from ordinary into extraordinary. There is a simple way to reconnect with your wild sid...e and that is to experience nature, the outdoors, wilderness. This is where #WildsideAR comes in - the race will give you that kind of experience. It will take you places with few or no tracks. Here you will have route choices and decisions to make. What that means for your life is that you give up a herd mentality and start to forge your own unique path through life. No matter what others think or say. It will show you the raw beauty of nature. There is something special about wild untouched spaces. If you’ve ever been in a wilderness area, you may have experienced a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty of nature. This is a spiritual experience where we open up to the vastness that lies beyond a self-centered focus. It will bring out the survivor in you. Every one has untapped powers of survival. When we get a sense of this hidden reservoir of power, we can apply it to our daily life in order to go beyond the limitations we imagine. Racing WildsideAR will make you self-reliant. In order to be safe in wild spaces, you need to prepare and plan gear, food, resources as well astake heed of possible dangers. This teaches self-reliance. This race will make you uncomfortable - now this is a good thing. We need a level of discomfort to grow. Time spent pushing yourself and being uncomfortable can be transformative. We can learn much more in this space than curling up on the lounge. If you want to get in touch with your wild side come and experience the Wildside Adventure Race in the Barrington - 27/28 June. You will trek, climb, ride, paddle and explore finding new spaces around you and within you. Fully Rad Adventures Adventure 1 Mountain Designs #AdventureRacing #Adventure #LiveFullyRad

03.01.2022 Being prepared to deal with anything is a key part of adventure racing. Wildside Expedition Edition in 2017 the second last bike leg from the pack raft to lake paddle saw teams ride through Canberra's famous Stromlo MTNB Park. One of the teams had to make a quick repair along the way. Having to make bike repairs along the way is part and parcel of racing.... 02.01.2022 For the first time in 7 years the Friday before the October long weekend is not being spent prepping maps, putting out last minute checkpoints, filling race packs, chasing supplies - it feels a little strange - like something is not quite right - i suspect the whole weekend will feel like this. So to all the Wildside Adventure Racers - enjoy your weekend off - you won't be getting next year's off - it's back to adventure racing and all the fun that comes with it. #adventurera...cing #WorldsToughestRace #adventure1 #fullyradadventures Fully Rad Adventures Adventure 1
