25.01.2022 View along the Cathedral Range from Sugarloaf Peak. The track to the high point on this rocky range east of Melbourne is not long but it is EXTREMELY steep and exposed - only attempt if you have a good head for heights. If you like that kind of thing, its great fun!

22.01.2022 Remembering Als visit to incredible Italy two years ago this month - this is the picture postcard town of Atrani on the Amalfi Coast, taken on a fantastic all-day walk from Ravello high above the Mediterranean down to the sea and back up again. Plans for a return visit are unfortunately on hold - for now

22.01.2022 Cement Creek on the slopes of Mount Donna Buang is one of the best patches of cool temperate rainforest near Melbourne, and a great spot to hone your long-exposure photography skills

22.01.2022 Good morning, Australia. We werent the only ones up at dawn to watch sunrise at the Flinders Ranges in South Australia.

22.01.2022 Sunset in western Victoria many years ago

21.01.2022 The epic scale of the Grand Canyon is hard to capture in one image. This was an attempt during our visit in 2007

20.01.2022 The aptly named Terrace Falls, near the town of Hazelbrook in NSW. The forests around the town are a real hidden gem of the Blue Mountains, since while they lack the spectacular cliffs that can be found further west in places like Katoomba this is made up for by the lush warm temperate rainforest and beautiful waterfalls, many of which are accessible by foot from the train station

20.01.2022 A rainbow python in Judbarra/Gregory National Park, Northern Territory

19.01.2022 Sunrise over the peaks of Kosciuszko National Park. If you look very closely there is a very small tent on a ridge in the middle of this photo, taken on one of our early trips into the wild. See track notes for the classic five-day circuit here: https://wildsight.com.au/nsw-alps/

19.01.2022 Waterfall on Eurobin Creek, Mount Buffalo National Park, Victoria.

19.01.2022 Cradle Mountain from Marions Lookout, a (very) early stop on the trek to the mountain or beyond on the 65km Overland Track

18.01.2022 A friendly (?) local on Hinchinbrook Island, spotted in the undergrowth behind Ramsey Beach on day one of the Thorsborne Trail

17.01.2022 Twin Falls from the air, Kakadu National Park. During the wet season the only way to see the falls is by helicopter

16.01.2022 Florence Falls in Litchfield National Park, Northern Territory. A 90-minute drive from Darwin, Litchfield is packed with waterfalls, gorges and swimming holes - which are surveyed after the wet season to make sure no saltwater crocs have decided to visit.

16.01.2022 An old photo on an old camera - but wow, that Grampians sunset

15.01.2022 Exciting news: A new book on the Grampians is now available featuring our photos! Historian Ben Wilkie explores thousands of generations of human interaction with the mountains from the Djab wurrung and Jardwadjali people to European settlement and todays hikers and photographers (like us!) Find out more here: https://www.publish.csiro.au/book/7721/

15.01.2022 Bruce on Moraine A - the very steep route up the Western Arthur Range in southwest Tasmania. This remote corner of Austrlaia is home to some of its toughest terrain, most spectacular scenery - and wildest weather, as we found out when the rain started a couple of days later (and didnt stop). Still an amazing experience!

14.01.2022 Sir John Falls on the Gordon River, Tasmania. This is the only photo location we have been to that can only be accessed by sea plane

14.01.2022 Its taken a little while but we have reached No.2 in our countdown of Australias best sunrise locations - Far North Queensland. This picture perfect scene is at Palm Cove but east-facing beaches from Townsville to Cape Tribulation are a great place to be when the sun comes up. Well show some more of our favourite spots in this stunning part of the country in the next few days

13.01.2022 Red-tailed black cockatoos in Judbarra/Gregory National Park, in the remote Top End about half way between Katherine and the Kimberley

12.01.2022 Nandroya Falls in Wooroonooran National Park on Queensland's Atherton Tableland.

11.01.2022 Koala near Cape Otway, one of the many reasons to visit the Great Ocean Road. Fingers crossed we can travel there soon!

11.01.2022 Alpine wildflowers near the summit of Mount Feathertop in the Victorian Alps

11.01.2022 From the archives ... subtropical rainforest at Tamborine Mountain - Queensland's first national park. The name is derived from a word in the Yugambeh language for the finger lime trees found in the forest. It was recorded as Jambreen, Tchambreem and Goombireen before locals settled on Tamborine.

11.01.2022 2020 has been a tough year. A planned trip back to beautiful Kiama on the NSW south coast, and its photography hot spot Bombo Quarry - No.3 on our countdown of Australias best sunrise locations - was called off because of devastating bushfires. Now all travel is off limits and national parks are closed around the country to try to control the spread of the coronavirus. Well be staying home like everyone else but posting more here to remind ourselves of the natural beauty that is still out there waiting to be explored. Stay safe everyone!

09.01.2022 Sunrise at Bluestone Bay in Freycinet National Park. Most of the beaches on this beautiful peninsula on Tasmanias east coast have stunning white sand - including the iconic Wineglass Bay - but this one is going for a different look. Its also one of the best short walks in Freycinet - find out more here: https://wildsight.com.au/freycinet/

08.01.2022 A clear sunrise at Wilpena Pound in South Australias Flinders Ranges

08.01.2022 Some great reading when youre stuck at home Wild Magazine

07.01.2022 Thinking of all the very friendly people we met in Italy two years ago, sadly a planned return trip this year has had to be postponed - but we will be back to places like Atrani, the picture postcard village on the Amalfi Coast pictured here. Find out more about walking in this amazing part of the world on a new page at our website: https://wildsight.com.au/classic-walks-on-italys-amalfi-co/

07.01.2022 Al gazing contemplatively at Crater Bluff from the summit of Lughs Throne, on the classic Grand High Tops circuit in Warrumbungle National Park, NSW.

07.01.2022 Flashback to one of our earliest photography outings, to see this incredible sunset over Lady Julia Percy Island (also known by its Aboriginal name Deen Maar), Australias only submarine volcano, 6km off the coast of southwest Victoria, near Port Fairy. The island is 2km long, 1km wide, between 32-46m high, seven million years old and home to the largest fur seal colony in the Southern Hemisphere. Pretty cool.

06.01.2022 Just in case anyone is looking for something more lighthearted in their Facebook feed today, we found these slides in an old email. Im pretty sure those legs belong to Alistair.

05.01.2022 The path to Cape Schanck on Victorias Mornington Peninsula

05.01.2022 Forest and rocky country between Mount Gar and Briggs Bluff, in Victorias Grampians National Park. This section is going to be one of the highlights of the Grampians Peaks Trail, which is currently under construction - and is high on our bucket list for when we can go out exploring again.

05.01.2022 drum roll please ... we have reached No.1 in our countdown of Australias best sunrise locations. And that is ... Uluru. Its a bit unfair really because this spot is mesmerising at any time of day, but getting there before the sun comes up is a truly magical experience. We hope everyone enjoyed this series, now with everyone stuck inside well go through our archives and share some of our favourite images and photography trips. Stay tuned!

04.01.2022 Kia Ora Falls on Tasmanias epic Overland Track

03.01.2022 Urban wildlife ... photography subjects are limited in lockdown but at least these cheeky corellas keep us untertained

03.01.2022 Palm Cove beach at sunrise, far north Queensland.

03.01.2022 Flashback to an early hiking trip to Lake Judd - the lake (and overnight camp) is under those huge cliffs. The scenery was incredible and the trek was remarkable for another reason - we had two rare days of blue skies in southwest Tasmania!

02.01.2022 One small positive of being in lockdown - time to go through old photos to unearth some shots that have been languishing on a hard drive for years, like this snap from Nina Peak on Hitchinbrook Island at the start of day 2 of the epic Thorsborne Trail, one of Australias great long-distance walks. Find out more about the trek (and see more pics) here: https://wildsight.com.au/hitchinbrook-island/

02.01.2022 Horseshoe Falls in full flow, Mount Field National Park Tasmania

01.01.2022 DAlton Falls on the Overland Track. Another pic saved from the files (with a little help from photo editing software that fixed some original exposure issues)

01.01.2022 Happy World Wombat Day! Here are two of the furry critters at Wilsons Promtontory and Cradle Mountain, two of the best places to see them in the wild

01.01.2022 Lake Mungo is another place wed love to return to - and somewhere wed recommend to anyone. The world heritage area is one of the most significant archaeological sites on the planet, with some of the oldest human remains ever discovered outside Africa (Mungo Man and Mungo Lady, who are both over 40,000 years old) and the largest set of ice age footprints in the world. To find out more about the national park go to www.visitmungo.com.au. The park is also stunningly beautiful. I took these photos at sunset from the Walls of China, an area of ancient sand dunes and lake shore where many of the parks most significant archaeological discoveries have been found.

01.01.2022 Some more amazing north Queensland sunrises
