25.01.2022 Hi all, out of action for a few weeks back into the RAH on Monday for some serious stuff. If any one can help Dave out in the mornings with raking and cleaning enclosures, scrubbing water troughs, feeding and sorting through fresh donations into buckets that would be fantastic. Dave is not into catering so you may get a cuppa and cookies and probably leave before it gets too hot. Plus Dave needs to visit me lol so get the jobs done and get him moving lol if you can assist please call Dave direct on 0400949115 thanks every one. Ps the early starters are best as it get too hot

24.01.2022 Hi all what a day Road trip to Tintinara to pick up a new addition to the family. Banjo the Bare nose Wombat raised from tiny to 7.5 kg by Toni and her lovely... family. Thaanks guys he has lovely manners. Dave and I also dropped into some Antique and sevond hand shops on wsy home. Surprise on arriving home Lil and Brian were at our gate and lovely visit, as I am under the pump and often get waylaid on visits to them. So this was terrific and Lil helped me out by taking a bub that was thrown. So I know Pippa is in great hands while I am in Hospital. Telstra also turned up to fix our landline but sadly its stuffed and the guy will be back monday. Telstra but the giy is very nice. The Coonalpyn toilets have beautiful mosaics. See more

20.01.2022 MEET ZIGGY Zygomaturus trilobus - large wombat-like diprotodontid This giant animal was one of the largest marsupials to have ever lived, with the only known l...arger species being its relative, the Diprotodon. Ziggy inhabited wooded coastal regions, possibly preferring wetter, swampy environments. With its tusk-like incisors it could grasp whole plants, dig them out of the ground with its strong claws and feed on the stems, roots, and tubers. It was as big and heavy as a bull, weighing 500 kg or more and standing about 1.5 m tall and 2.5 m long. Ziggy had a massive head, with huge arching cheek bones and widely flared nasal bones which may have supported small horn like structures. Some of the best-preserved examples of Zygomaturus bones have been found in the Mowbray swamp area of the far northwest of Tasmania where a complete skeleton of Ziggy was discovered in early 1920, while draining at "Mowbray Swamp", near Smithton. Another almost complete skeleton of Zygomaturus was found in the swamp ten years earlier. Since bones have only been found in former swamp-forests, it is thought it may have been semi-aquatic like a hippopotamus, scooping vegetation into its mouth with shovel-like incisors. Ziggy lived in Tasmania, but other remains have been found on the mainland continent of Australia where they lived along the eastern, southern, south western and north western coastlines. Fossils of this odd-looking herbivore have been found in West Australia and a jawbone of Ziggy can still be seen in the Mammoth Cave (Margaret River area) in its original location nestled under a flowstone (crystal) ledge. This jawbone is dated at around 50,000 years old, making this individual one of the last of its kind because along with the rest of the megafauna, Zygomaturus had become extinct by 46,000 years ago. No less than 20 individuals have been found in the Mammoth Cave.

20.01.2022 To adopt a bunny please call Sue who is based in Modbury on 82636432

17.01.2022 On the 10th October we had our micro chip day with our amazing Vet Cathy and an amazing team. The last job we had to do was knock out a Swamp wallaby to check o...ut a terrible facial injury sustained when bad weather frightened her into a tree or fence post. Presentation was a very wide infection accross the nose between the eyes and down the right side of the little face. Big mumma was put under anesthetic and checked carefully with all looking on to see and learn what animals do to themselves. Every one was effected by what they could see. The very few maggots removed and it was decided I would Euth Big Mumma after every one went home maily as I did not want to share my grief or share that side of the work I have to do euthing injured rescue animals. Once every one left I got the gun out and prepared myself and Big Mumma but No I looked into her eyes and my heart was breaking . I could see a chance and yes you need to work as a dedicated healer to get a result but 3 weeks on and after looking into Big Mummas eyes and loving her as I do I could not kill her. I dont mind spending hours looking after cleaning and treating my wallaby lady. Well here she is now No I could not kill her but dedicated time to her healing. I cried today we have skin grown over the whole area and I feel happy to leave uncovered as maggots cannot get into any open wounds as there are none. Antiseptic powder will still be a daily dressing but I expect this will not need to be done much longer. Big mumma had long acting antibiotics every 3 days, pain relief daily and medi honey dressings every 3 days on antibiotic day. Thank you to the critter gods for looking down and taking care of Big Mumma and giving me hope to try Bless you Big Mumma See more
