25.01.2022 Nets on Pinot, nets on Chardonnay tomorrow and last spray of the vintage going on tonight. Autumn leaves are appearing and were gearing up to start chasing the pesky birds off our crop... and how about this gorgeous still warm weather? #v19 #macedonrangesnaturallycool #macedonrangeswine #coldclimatewines #wilimeewines #familyfarm

25.01.2022 We were out collecting Easter eggs and the photo reminded me of my time in Paris of the @musee_dorsay_1898 Jean-Francois Millets the gleaners 1857. What a co-incidence! Three peasant woman collect scanty remains of the harvest after it has been harvested. Of course this is what the parrots are doing in our vineyard at the moment- and the remains are scanty. #tussenkunstenquarantaine #betweenartandquarantine @metmuseum @ngvmelbourne @tussenkunstenquarantaine #millet #museedorsay #artchallenge #artathome #artathomechallenge @rijksmuseum #thegleaners @macedonrangeswine #macedonrangeswine #museumathome #museecheztoi #museumfromhome

24.01.2022 Happy Little monkeys in the vines last week when we pick our first parcel of Chardonnay. Thanks to our neighbours who came and brought much humour and hard work- we couldnt have done it without this help. Last night we had over 3 and 1/2 inches of rain and this morning the silver eyes are finding every way they can to eat our grapes... I think we might have to move fast to get these last grapes secured...

24.01.2022 I wasnt expecting this harvest this morning. My kind neighbour at Mount William winery delivered this exceptional 1999 champagne as I was collecting the last of our pears and quinces. Wish that happened every morning. #blancdeblanc #mtwilliamwinery #sparkling #champagne

23.01.2022 It was a different kind of busy at Wilimee last night & this morning. Our beautiful ‘Sizzles’ had 5 puppies, unfortunately 2 didn’t make it & we had to rush to the vet for an emergency c section on the final 2 pups. All is good now with 3 beauties. Our girls are very excited, no doubt these pups will be over loved. #puppies #wilimeewines

19.01.2022 Yep its winter. The wind feels arctic and Im only really out for the dog... but were not in lockdown and I really feel for all those in the hospitality industry and those going into another round of homeschooling. Its not easy but as its been said this too shall pass. Xxx

17.01.2022 Were doing our bit for the the climate strike today. Weve been at a regenerative agriculture conference in Colac called From the Ground up and were working towards great soil health. Great soil health means healthy plants and good nutrient dense food means less degenerative disease. You would have to eat 8 oranges today to get the same nutritional value of one orange in 1950. This is Christine jones talking about soil health on a dairy farm. #climatestrike #wilimeewines

11.01.2022 #Repost @harperandblohm with @make_repost GIFTIDEA #3 A Magnum of Chardonnay and 1kg Comté. The perfect gift for an extra special Christmas present or generous thank you for your hosts. ... Wilimee Chardonnay 1.5l presented in a timber box Wilimee Chardonnay has been selected from a small family-run vineyard in the Macedon Ranges. At an altitude of 600m, the cool climate is perfect for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their vines were planted in 1982, making them some of the oldest in the Macedon Ranges. Ben Ranken approaches winemaking with a minimalist hand. Using natural wild yeasts, natural malolactic fermentation with no fining, and without filtration. @wilimee_wines handpick their grapes grown on rare Cambrian soil, some of the oldest in Australia. The vineyard is next to a sacred quarry, once mined for its greenstone, which was used to make stone axes by the Wurundjeri people. Wilimee Mooring means ‘Place of Stone Axe’. Only a small number of Magnums are bottled each season. Marcel Petite Comté Symphonie 1kg @fromageriesmarcelpetite one of the most respected Affineurs in France hand-selects wheels of cheese to mature in their cold maturation system at 1,100m in the 19th century underground Fort of Saint-Antoine, high in the mountains of the French/Swiss border. Each year only a few wheels of Comté are selected to bear the prestigious ‘Symphonie’ label. The name Comté is derived from the forest known as Gruyeres whose timber was once used to fuel the heat of the copper cauldrons during the cheese-making process. Comté now represents the largest volume of all the cheeses produced in the AOC system. Comté ‘Symphonie’ are matured for a longer period than other grades and display more complex and richer flavor characteristics. Order for delivery or pick up in-store $240

11.01.2022 Last night we were among a fortunate few who heard #drzachbush talk presented by @joostbakker and frequented by many familiar faces from regenerative agriculture. It was saddening to hear the ever increasing rates of disease in our population but exciting to know that if we stop the #glyphosate roundup onslaught and treat our soil with respect and care that we can regain optimal health. The direct correlation between increase in glyphosate and increase in degenerative disease is scary. Many of our foods are nutrient deficient and coated in glyphosate (which acts like an antibiotic basically) and if we can change this we can change the trajectory we are currently on. If you havent listened to #drzacbush on a podcast I urge you to its well worth it. #regenagriculture #regenag #goteam #soilhealth #actnowforfuture

10.01.2022 Speakeasy Cellar Doors is a community of the best small cellar doors tucked away in Victoria’s countryside. The community exists to give the curious the confidence to get off the beaten track and support local. If you’re looking to try wines far from the madding crowd check out the website and book a tasting for your next country escape. We’d love to see you! - #Repost @speakeasy_cellardoors with @make_repost Welcome @wilimee_wines ... Country life runs through Ben & Sally Ranken’s blood. They both grew up in the countryside and after a few years of city life made a beeline back to the country to pursue their dream; Wilimee Wines. Ben is no stranger to the vine; one of his ancestors planted some of Australia’s first vines back in 1841 in NSW. Whilst his story is steeped in history his approach in the vineyard is innovative and unique. At 600m altitude nestled at the foot of Mt William in the Macedon Ranges, Ben tends to some of Macedon’s highest and oldest vines. Chardonnay grows on deep red Cambrian soil (think Heathcote) and Pinot Noir on very old granite soil. Ben works in harmony with the land and every year one third of his Pinot Noir bottles are submerged for 5 years to mature underwater. He is one of only a handful of winemakers in the world to do so. He is about to release his first underwater vintage. Wilimee takes its name from the sacred quarry of the Wurundjeri people next to which the vineyard was planted, it means ‘Place of Stone Axe’. Ben’s wines are truly outstanding and his passion is infectious. Plan your post covid escape and book a tasting today. 10.01.2022 Hi Everyone, This page has been created to show support to keep the Lancefield farmers market going. Please share. We love our market and want it to stay. There is concern that if we dont keep it going we will lose all our beloved stall holders to other markets and locations.

10.01.2022 Its a real family affair this lockdown. Ive worked out a cunning plan to pay the kids $10 a row... but Im not sure our interest extends to more than a row ... However with bud burst looming Ill try my best to convince them. Were spending the weekend trying to finish whats been a long winter pruning and tying down. You certainly get to know your vineyard after handling each vine 4 times and this knowledge will help us manage problem areas. Next up well be aerating and applying compost to give back to these 20-36 year old vines..

08.01.2022 Comte & Chardonnay anyone? Thanks Harper & Blohm - #Repost @harperandblohm with @make_repost We are very excited to now have wines available on our online store.... We have a Chardonnay & Pinot Noir from Ben Ranken at @wilimee_wines , a small family-run vineyard in the Macedon Ranges. Their vines were planted in 1982, making them some of the oldest in the Macedon Ranges and their technique involves using natural wild yeasts and natural malolactic fermentation resulting in really delicious wines. Wilimee Pinot Noir 2019 is perfectly matched with traditional clothbound cheddars such as Hafod & Bay of Fires, and washed rinds such as Epoisses de Bourgogne & Taleggio. Wilimee Chardonnay 2018 matches well with mountain cheeses such as Comtè and creamy blues such as Berrys Creek Tarwin Blue. We will be adding this to the selection cheese friendly with bubbles, beers & gin soon. NOTE Harper and Blohm licensing restrictions require that wine can only be purchased in conjunction with one or more food items. A maximum quantity of liquor purchased must not exceed more than two 750ml bottles of wine.

06.01.2022 We had a massive weekend cleanup which cumulated in a bonfire made from branches and laurel hedge clippings. The shed was tackled and cleaned up as well as a whole trailer load of wire removed from the paddock and recycled at the tip. Star pickets from fallen fences were removed so we can start to regenerate the paddocks with mulching under trees and bio fertiliser or worm castings and see what pops up. Hopefully some diverse grasses. So many ideas generated from our recent regenerative farming conference. So much cleaning up to make space for new ideas.... #regenerativefarming #workinprogress

06.01.2022 Happy Easter folks. Im feeling the love of community today. Ive had Easter eggs dropped in my letterbox and champagne too but the best thing was the huge amount of support that we had from locals to pick our grapes. Our yield was down by 80% and it became clear that to pay contractors was going to push us into a difficult position. We had 26 volunteers over two days, neighbours whos previously said their picking days were over to teenagers who picked solidly for two days. We had more people than we needed. Claire from the cafe @mtmacedontp Mt Macedon trading post whipped up delicious cakes, lasagne and soup to feed the hoards with a nights notice. These times are super hard but you can get through anything with a community like this. Thanks Lancefield and surrounds we have so much love for you! Happy Easter!

04.01.2022 #Repost @younggunofwine with @get_repost Say gday to Ben Ranken of @wilimee_wines. Following from last years debut in the Top 50 list, this year hes is in the Final 12 for 2019, our 13th annual edition of the #YGOW Awards. Q. What are you exploring with your winemaking right now?... A. We are maturing Wilimee Pinot Noir underwater for 5yrs. The 2015 vintage is our first, so in the winter of 2016 after it was bottled, we submersed the bottles underwater with 5m of head pressure. This will be released in 2021. Weve also kept this same wine under normal cellaring conditions, so to compare the two methods. Every year since 2015 weve cellared Pinot underwater, so were waiting patiently for the results Q. What do you find so-hot-right-now in the wine world? A. Women in wine. Its fantastic seeing the deserved recognition and kudos women are receiving. Its great! Q. What style of wine cant you get enough of right now? A. Pinot Noir with good tannin structure. this is not to confuse with being a tannic Pinot. Most Aussie Pinots are too ethereal, with a couple of exceptions. Tasted lately was the 2013 Epis Pinot showing lovely structure and core fruit. Q. Whats coming on your horizon that you are most excited about? A. Vintage 2019, fruit looks fantastic. #YGOWfinal12 #MacedonRanges #macedonrangeswine @macedonrangeswine

04.01.2022 I made this mask today so I could happily go to the farmers market tomorrow in Lancefield. However some locals managed to cancel it just hours ago for fear of covid. I feel for the farmers, makers of produce that will perish and those relying on this income to survive what is already a harsh climate for those on the land. It doesnt make sense and Im a bit mad. The market committee had protocols in place (of which were so good that they were replicated by other farmers mark...ets) which gave us a safe space to trade during covid. Police were also going to be checking number plates to make sure those in lockdown zones werent visiting.. I just feel for the farmers, the bread that wont be sold and the 35kg of pasta that was made... Then those who cant buy nutrient dense food to support their immune system. Lancefield doesnt deserve such a great market if were going to treat farmers like this.... See more

03.01.2022 As we swam in our dam on Christmas Day for the first time ever I realised just how beautiful it this little spot is. Fires have wiped out so many houses, farms and vineyards across Australia during this time and there is an ever present awareness during summer that there may be another fire just around the corner. As Voltaire so rightly says life is a shipwreck, but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats. And with that we feel so grateful for our little dam full of water and the native bush that surrounds it, the people who have bought our wine and those who have made us laugh. Happy holidays and thank-you...

01.01.2022 Lovely words by @wineworthwritingabout Thanks The new 2019 releases from @wilimee_wines in the Macedon Ranges, VIC. Defined by effortless fruitiness, along with the cool climate Macedon gift of acidity and a minimal intervention approach, these wines sing with a natural beauty that requires no make-up. Ripe, flavourful and juicy. - 2019 WILIMEE CHARDONNAY... Pale straw with a lovely shine and a pure nose of musky florals, lemon blossom, fingerlime, starfruit, nectarine and white pepper. A touch of fennel and humble oak colours the background. Rich, ripe and juicy on the palate with a fruitiness that is very comforting. Yellow peach, pear, pineapple juice and a gentle bounce of lemon glide effortlessly, while a hum of grapefruit bitterness and nectarine acidity sparks the palate. The midpalate is cohesive and gentle, slowly segueing to a tail that stretches with apricot, raw almond and toasted cereal notes. Fruity goodness. - 2019 WILIMEE PINOT NOIR Deep ruby with a purple hue and a nose of cherry, plum, raspberry coulis, sweet beetroot and raw beef. Touches of carob and potpourri colour the background. This smells like it was picked at its prime On the palate you are immediately met with a zing of plum and mulberry acidity that sizzles over the palate, from start to finish, and lends great fruit tension. Notes of fresh raspberry, cherry and tart blueberries drive to a midpalate that's textured with a scrape of tight tannins and lifts with candied strawberry. Some whole bunch florals appear before the tail that drifts with a residual cassis-like sweetness. Beautiful. - #wilimeewines #macedonrangeswine #clickforvic #pinotnoir #chardonnay See more
