03.01.2022 Some breaking news out of the NDIS this morning ... Transport! The Minister for the NDIS has announced that NDIS participants will now be able to use their core... funds to pay service providers for transport. The Minister's press release says "From 1 March 2020, NDIS participants will be able to flexibly use their plan’s core support funding to claim service provider costs associated with transporting participants to and from NDIS funded community-based activities. "Providers will be able to claim some of their vehicle running costs when offering transport to a participant in conjunction with the community activities identified in their NDIS plan. These costs which are in addition to the support worker’s time are factored at a per kilometre rate and can be claimed by providers as a separate item as part of the support they are delivering to participants" An updated price guide will be released in the next few weeks with line items and amounts. EDIT: The Minister's press release is now up on the NDIS website - https://www.ndis.gov.au//4318-delivering-ndis-plan-flexibi We know this doesn't have all the info everyone needs so we are trying to get more detail now. Stay tuned. And while we know this doesn't fix all the transport issues for everyone, it is great things things are moving and heading in the right direction ... 03.01.2022 Breaking news this afternoon regarding NDIS and the coronavirus ... The Minister for the NDIS Stuart Robert has announced some changes that will be introduced t...o help people with disability and their families manage the impact of the coronavirus over the coming weeks and months. The changes include: Outreach to "high risk" participants to make sure they have what they need A "more flexible" approach to using NDIS funds including allowing people to switch between categories - but only in "consultation with special teams of planners in the NDIA" Extra 10 per cent loading added to the prices of some NDIS services and supports just for six months to cover the extra costs of service delivery Changes to the NDIS cancellation policy Financial support to providers to make sure they can keep services going NDIS participants can also ask for an extension of their current plan for up to 24 months (announced earlier but good to remember) The Minister also made clear this is just the start - there will be more changes to come. As soon as there is more detail we will share. In the meantime you can read the Minister's media release here - https://www.ndis.gov.au//4659-new-measures-support-ndis-pa There is also some information on the NDIS disaster response webpage - https://www.ndis.gov.au//ndis-a/ndis-and-disaster-response EDIT: We have a bunch of questions - we are sure you do too. So if you want to add them to the list either ask them in the comments below or send through to [email protected]. We will try and get answers and then share answers back here and our on website. 01.01.2022 I love this land Australia, it’s coursing through my veins, But I’ve gotta tell ya mate, I like it better when it rains. The countryside is dying and there’s ju...st no end in sight, and just to rub salt in the wounds, the bush has caught alight. The landscape is on fire from Brisbane to the Gong And everybody’s asking where the hell did we go wrong? But we can get through this one if we help each other out, take care of your neighbour , that’s what Aussies are about. The rain is going to fall again , the good times will return. But living in Australia means at times it’s going to burn. So if you need a helping hand, just give a mate a call. We’re all here to help you out and catch you when you fall. The RFS, the SES, the Firies, and police, all put their lives upon the line to help to keep the peace. So hats off to these heroes and thanks for all you do And I hope when this is over we can make it up to you! Troy Gerdes.
