08.01.2022 Piano Guitar: The finish was a very light hand rubbed oil call Danish oil, scoured back with fine steel wool in between coats. On some timbers this gives marked... colour changes and deep lustre. These timbers are not really revered for their aesthetics, due to being stuffed into the guts of a piano. There wasnt really much of a colour change or lustre developed. Stringing up and fitting the hardware is always satisfying. Heres a few shots of the finishing and the fit out combined. 07.01.2022 Studymate Traveller Guitar. First thing to do for the soundboard is trim it up, then rout the rosette channel followed by the soundhole. This timber is soft so Ive kept it a bit thicker than I would normally go. Probably in the low 2mm range around 2.3 or so. Not sure what the timber is but already its sounding sweet with the tap tone. We use the tap tone to tune the soundboard, constantly checking the tap tone as a reference point as we put on the braces and thin them ...down. Of course thats if your not using a mass spectrometer. 05.01.2022 One of the monochords under construction. There are two of these currently being built. Essentially these monochords are a ‘soundbox’ with a Blackwood back (acacia melanoxylon) and a Huon pine (Lagerostrobos franklinii) ‘soundboard’ or ‘top’. These particular instruments measure 800mm x 400 x 100 and will be strung with up to 40 strings, most of which will be tuned to the same note.
