23.01.2022 Coomera Connector - Round 2 Community Consultation This afternoon the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland) advised our office:- ...today we are launching a new round of community consultation for Stage 1 of the project.... The purpose of this next round of consultation is to provide the community with more information about what the Coomera Connector will look like and the opportunity for the community to share ideas about the negotiable urban design-related aspects of the project. The Coomera Connector community consultation site is now live: https://www.yoursay-projects.tmr.qld.gov.au/coomeraconnector with the consultation period open until 11 October 2020. You are welcome to share this link on social media to invite members of your local community to find out more about planning for the project and to share their ideas about the negotiable urban design-related aspects of the project. A project newsletter will be distributed to approximately 170,000 homes, businesses and PO boxes between Pimpama and Mermaid Waters from Monday 14 September 2020 a copy of the newsletter is attached for your information. The newsletter is also available in the Document Library on the Coomera Connector community consultation site. Whilst this particular State project appears to have the support of both major parties, I would recommend that in addition to the formal TMR consultation, residents also give consideration to contacting any / all of the candidates for the upcoming October 2020 elections directly to provide them with your ‘feedback’. #CoomeraConnector #StateProject #Election2020

Over the next couple of day I have questions to ask the candidates around:- - Loss of habitat - Sound barriers - Road surface - Proposed intersections - Timing / Funding Other than the above, what questions would you specifically like to ask the candidates from the two major parties? 13.01.2022 Siganto Drive, Helensvale There have been several koalas spotted in and around Siganto Drive recently (including visits to both McDonalds and Zarraffas). Please be aware. Slow down. Lookout for the unexpected. ... This message from Wildcare Australia Inc.:- This little joey which was rescued Thursday night. We are so thankful that she was seen by Steph, a Coomera Waters resident. She stopped, picked the little girl up and wrapped her up in her jumper and had her husband contact our emergency hotline while she drove home. To give you an idea of size, the little joey curled up is about the size of a large orange (520g in weight) so very tiny. The joey has some bruising and abrasions from the impact but we are hopeful that she will be okay. www.wildcare.org.au Wildlife emergencies hotline - 55272444 #Helensvale #Koala #BeAware
13.01.2022 Coomera Connector - Update Today the Premier announced $755,000,000 was to be committed to the modified first stage of the Coomera Connector. The Transport Minister advised it would link Nerang (near Carrara Stadium) through to the Marine Precinct (though possibly no longer being built through to Oaky Creek Rd / Foxwell Road as Stage 1 ).... The money dropped today is of course subject to matching funding from the Federal Government, however the Minister says works are proposed to start next year. Noting that the business case for Federal funding is still being worked on, and is expected to be finished next year and provided to the Federal Government. - The State project appears to have the support of both major parties. I would recommend that residents give consideration to contacting any / all of the candidates for the upcoming October 2020 elections directly to provide them with your ‘feedback’. #CoomeraConnector #StateProject #Election2020
12.01.2022 Thanks to the new, and continuing, Directors of Destination Gold Coast who were appointed at this afternoons AGM. It’s been an incredibly tough year for the Gold Coast’s tourism industry. It’s a difficult task to market the City as Australia’s favourite playground when the borders have had to have been shut. ... Their business plan moving forward remains the same:- Attract more visitors, who stay longer, and spend more It’s a hearts minds, and wallets, campaign and it was good to hear that Accor had their biggest ever day for accomodation bookings following two days of good news from the Premier about relaxations on border restrictions with NSW and Victoria. The Summer holiday booking window is narrowing but we will do everything to attract travellers and rebuild the domestic market - Paul Donovan. We can all help be supporting our local tourism operators. But local. Stay local.

08.01.2022 Last night at the Riverdowns NHW meeting I was asked a question about mosquito fogging. The Officers advice this morning is:- Helensvale / Monterey Keys / Oyster Cove and Hope Island have been fogged over the last two mornings for mosquito and biting midge populations.... Summer is here, and mosquito’s have clearly not been paying attention to the State Government’s continued request for social distancing...
