WILLIAMSTOWN FERRIES has occupied the Southgate Berth 1, Terminal for the last 13 years and has operated from the Southgate Promenade since 1995. Bay and River Cruises were established in 1984. Our purpose designed vessels navigate the low bridges in high tidal conditions.... Given a renewed 10 year licence with security of tenure, we intended to build a new purpose designed ferry. Our current ultra modern vessel is designed to provide unique passenger experience and is the only vessel on the river to cater for wheelchair access. The Williamstown Traders depend on the guaranteed daily service provided by the Original Company. Visitors to Melbourne use the service as hop on hop off at Scienceworks and other major attractions, or simply enjoy the sightseeing from the Yarra and Bay on the round trip. Should our ferry service close the other company would have a monopoly. The heavily branded and long established Williamstown Ferry Terminal at Southgate is most attractive to the opposition company. They intend to take over the long term investment and destroy the current operator. Williamstown Bay and River Cruises seeks a fair assessment and review of services given to the City over several decades. Without competition the current services Southgate Williamstown and the Bay, will be compromised.
