23.01.2022 Have you done your calf raises this week? Calf strength is important for most sports, particularly for running. We know that one of your calf muscles (your soleus) produces 6.5-8x your body weight in force every single step when running, and needs to be up to the task! We also know that your calf push-off strength decreases by 1% per year as you age.... Time to fight back! Get started with both straight-knee and bent-knee calf raises today!

19.01.2022 Now introducing Real Time Ultrasound at our clinic, an imaging technique which allows visual feedback of deep core muscle contractions! This machine allows accurate assessment and helps in creating a targeted exercise program to strengthen the inner core. Real time ultrasound is useful for conditions like low back pain, pelvic pain, hip pain, or women’s health issues. If you require an assessment or are interested in learning more about your core strength give us a call on 9958 7935 or book online at wssphysio.com.au. Check out how real time ultrasound helped fix a teenagers slumped posture at the following link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au//5ebb4ae0ea78ea54fa2c4bfc5e7ab

19.01.2022 A lot of you have heard of the drinking bird exercise. It’s the perfect exercise and it challenges everything from ankle stability to hamstrings, glutes and core. BUT have you tried the throwing bird (AKA serving bird)? This variation is tailored to our overhead throwing athletes with sore shoulders. We often see tennis players , cricketers, softballers or baseballers, whose shoulder pain can be explained by weakness in their opposite standing leg. Give this exercise a go at home. Pick a light weight, because you’ll rarely be throwing more than 500grams at a time, and slowly build up the speed to a more explosive throw. If you don’t have dumbbells, a tennis racquet, cricket ball, or full water bottle works great!

18.01.2022 Great exercise for throwing/overhead athletes with shoulder pain towards the end of their rehab! https://twitter.com/Shoulder_PT/status/972092258857160705

12.01.2022 Reducing Football Injuries The FIFA 11+ warm-up programme has been shown to reduce injuries by up to 39%. More specifically, it has been shown to reduce injurie...s in the four most commonly injured regions in footballers: hamstrings, hip/groin, knee and ankle injury by 60%, 41%, 48% and 32%, respectively. As a result, this form of warm-up routine should replace historical, uneducated and/or thoughtless routines such as running laps around the field, which are to often seen in today's practice. In response to critics, although this routine is a "cookie cutter" programme and may not target the specific needs of each individual, it does however provide a easy-to-implement programme for coaches to administer who don't have the access (e.g. budget) to performance specialists. If you're a football coach and would like to know more about this programme and how to implement it, then visit the links below.
