17.01.2022 PHYSICAL & BEHAVIORAL IMPACTS OF EXCESSIVE ELECTRONICS & GAMING Most parents who are dealing with an in the moment adrenaline rush related to electronic use, ca...n tell you how difficult it is to transition away from playing the games. But what are the overall impacts on physical health and behavior? PHYSICAL HEALTH IMPACTS: Compromised immune system Inflammation Increased cortisol (stress hormones) Blood pressure spikes BEHAVIORAL IMPACTS Hypervigilance Aggression Overactive behavior Rapid speech & excitement Sleep loss Irritability Depression These impacts tend to be overlooked as being related to excessive gaming and electronic use. This is likely because it takes time for these difficulties to develop to the point that the impacts are problematic. However, once these impacts show up, it becomes even harder to cut the connection to electronics. This is the cycle of addiction.

16.01.2022 With thanks to Louise Hayes Past-President of ACBS for sharing this on Twitter, highlighting that to suggest that an individual's developmental challenges or m...ental disorders renders them unfit to speak would be to buy into an ableist and historically unfortunate rendering of the "hysterical" or "crazy" other. A great reminder for me that the silencing or ostracism of any other based on fusion with a story of their conceptualised self in the absence of dialogue is wholly antithetical to CBS values.
